I read up on that. There was a 70 year old man that survived being under for over 40 minutes and he made a full recovery and there have been many other incidents too young and old that have been unconscious, not breathing and without a pulse and have still pulled through. I read an article about it too which argued that more lives could've been saved some years ago when this planed crashed into some frozen waters not long after take off [I think it might've been the Air Floriada Flight 90 they were talking about] basically because of that mammalian diving reflex that's in all mammals including us, it would've been possible to revive those that might've appeared dead and long after drowning.
Not sure if Luke would have enough oxygen to get back up and break the ice. It's possible he could've swum up some of the way if he broke free before passing out, but from what I know, don't bodies float? So he should just naturally float back up anyway right?
Regardless of this, if in that world you turn into a walker after you die or not, the diving reflex should still work because it delays brain damage and thus the brain from dying from what would create the zombie. So like for the reasons you said, if another group or somebody came across him, whether to steal from his 'corpse' or having some humanity or compassion in them to notice he wasn't long gone, it's possible. Also, something like that would take a little while for a person to recover from too even after being revived, so again it would keep Luke out of the way before the group was gone.
But yes, that would be the most plausible way for Luke to have survived that as tiny as those chances are.
Maybe the diving reflex could help. It allows someone experiencing it to survive for a long time (20 minutes to a few hours) under cold wate… morer while unconscious. Luke would then be able to survive long enough for some random survivors to find his body by chance, and revive him.
Here's the scenario I've thought out:
Luke gets dragged to the bottom. He then pulls hard enough for the walker's arm to snap, freeing him (it has happened before with someone else). He swims to the lake edge (he didn't walk very far on the ice before it cracked), and uses his knife to try and break the ice. He then loses consciousness and remains there for some time.
Eventually a group of survivors finds him submerged after breaking the ice looking for water (it's better to drink cold water than to eat snow). They drag him out, wanting to search his body, but then they find he's not frozen and thus alive. They then rush into the trees where their camp is, and … [view original content]
To be honest, you don't actually SEE him die. You see him get dragged down in to the darkness of the water.
So..... it's possible for him to come back in Season 3 as a surprise return. Hey.... it happened with Kenny. If you don't see the person actually die, they're not guaranteed dead.

Regarding whether Luke would be able to break the ice, I also believe that he would be unable to. I would think that he would try to swim to shallow water, get his knife out, then start stabbing the ice, but would pass out very quickly afterwards. Then other survivors would break the ice above him while looking for fresh water, and would find him.
Also, apparently, bodies don't float underwater unless they've been dead for at least a few hours, they float due to the buildup of gas from bacteria. So Luke would probably start sinking upon passing out. But he wouldn't sink far if he were in shallow water. If the water was shallow enough, people could see his body from above the water, and would be able to pull him out without submerging themselves.

Telltale is known for killing almost every character that's in the season. It wasn't surprising that he was going to die forcefully. A lake... really? Too bad it wasn't lukewarm I guess. The cover option is better by the way. He's already pressured by his weight. It'd just add up more to crack the ice.
I wish they didn't kill off Luke he was one of the best and I was pretty shocked that they did so. I would have picked Luke over Jane or Kenny. I suppose its possible for Telltale to bring him back because you never really saw him die he could have easily been knocked out and alive. Hopefully in season 3 he will be back #bringbackluke
Yeah they made a pretty bad choice by killing him off even though majority of the characters in twd get killed at some point I wish he was one of the few that survived
Its not so much as a theory as it is speculation and the theory of Lee being alive I agree with you being terrible because you practically saw Lee get shot or slowly turn into walker but that is not the case for Luke

Where's that damn...ah, here we go:
Believe in the Luke! ;_;

Oh wait... I just saw that if you cover, you SEE him die. Oh well
No worries!

p.s Yay! You found a GIF!
you see how he passed out
LMFAOOO!
OH HAIL RESSURECTOR OF THREADS LONG DEAD.

A rise! A rise dead thread a rise!
Oh hey, I remember seeing this thread back when the episode first came out
I actually got his death spoiled because I looked at this thread
lol I didn't read the date. I'm not sure if I was the one who bumped it because it was right there in the page.
I didn't like Luke.
So if he survived, I would of supported Kenny in a second.

It'd be great, but it's probably pretty hard to survive negative degree temperatures for any amount of time.

Great! Another worst theory of the franchise. The other being Lee alive.
Its not so much as a theory as it is speculation and the theory of Lee being alive I agree with you being terrible because you practically saw Lee get shot or slowly turn into walker but that is not the case for Luke
But Luke having a wounded leg, grabbed by a walker into an ice lake is too impossible for him to escape.
I know chances of him coming back is nearly nil
Maybe he got lucky.........real lucky.
He ain't got the 'stache tho...
The only thing how Kenny surived is the power of the beard lol.
