I have the feeling it is possible that both Clem and Javier have escaped from some sort of prison camp, kinda like what happened in Season 2 when Clem and the cabin group were taking captive by Carver and forced to work as slave laborers at Howe's this maybe a similar situation. The same with her finger injury, remember what happened in Season 2 when Carver thought Kenny had stolen the radio and as punishment preceded to beat him up? well I have a similar theory in regards to Clementine, she may of been caught doing something and as punishment one of her fingers was amputated, I think it also may explain the bracelet she is wearing, she was not wearing one last season which leads me to believe its a sort of prison tag. Those are my thoughts.

Someone has to have intentionally cutted it off, it is pretty hard to lose hard of one of the middle finger during an apocalypse ( and not lose the whole hand aswell )
That's actually her ring finger, which means it'd probably be the hardest to get at on its own unless she was doing something with just that one.

I'm thinking it's choice dependant. Something similar to how if Clementine helps Kenny in season 2 she gets that scar on her cheek. As a side note, I really want that scar to carry over into season 3.
I just thought of something: The finger has a bandage on it which means that happened recently before the events of the trailer.

Since everyone is just talking about the finger, I'll be the one to say it: the gun model is incredible. I love the rusty and 'used' look, it's a really nice touch. Looks like a gun that hasn't been used in years, I'm surprised it even worked.
I got a feeling it was a punishment for something she did. Who knows, maybe it's based on a decision in Season 2? WHAT IF WELLINGTON DID THAT. WHAT IF THE FAMILY DID THIS TO CLEMENTINE IN THE JANE ENDING?

Maybe the ring finger symbolizes that Clementine will never find love in the apocalypse like fans keep suggesting. Just kidding I'll see my way out. But that would be a subtle way to tell fans that the walking dead is not about a Clementine romance. Okay, sorry I'll see my way out.
I remember there is even a thread about if Clementine was going to have a boyfriend, many did not like the idea. I guess those folks will get their wish.
There is a bandage on the finger though. Seems like it happened recently, we may even see Clementine get her finger cut off.

The finger she lost goes with how Assassins in AC1 would have to lose a finger in order to have use of the hidden blade. Perhaps she's an assassin? lol

Well, it should be noted that it seems to have been a precise cut that took two phalanxes (or whatever the plural is). It's very unlikely that this clean cut could have been caused by something like a bullet wound. So someone amputated, also further supported by the professional bandages. But we probably won't find out why until the game comes out.

Dont get me wrong i love her and will make any one that hurts her pay but come on guys. Lee lost an arm Kenny and eye, a ring finger seems a little like a paper cut at this point.

Seriously though, I hope it's optional to lose that finger. Kinda like the scar on her cheek in S2. I just can't stand to see her in pain like that.
