  • Speaking of, is there anyone who likes both Arvo and (either season's) Kenny?

  • I loved Kenny in both seasons. I don't like Arvo, but I don't hate him either. I do sympathize with him though. I guess there has to be a very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very small amount of people that like both. I'm actually really curious now.

  • whered you get that from? i prefer jane and i think arvo is a piece of shit

  • He was a character who invoked sympathy, definitely, but I did like how he stood up to his bully and he felt like an interesting character. Would've been nice to have gotten the chance to get to know characters like Arvo more instead of having them die with little character development.

This. I made a point about how while I didn't like Arvo, I thought it was easy to feel sorry for him since he was at a constant disadvantage. The guy shows up looking like an easy target, gets held up thanks to a (badass) little girl, has his own friends laugh at and push him around, loses his sister in a confrontation he clearly didn't want to be a part of from the getgo, gets abused by Kenny, has all of Carver's former workers take pity on him, and gets treated like this terrible villain in a series of unfortunate events that built up to his one true malicious act when he seemed to just be thrown into situations where he barely had a choice. I even outright called him a plot device after a certain point.

  • Maybe because nobody sincerely likes a character that's been in like one and half episode and was technically our enemy?

You don't have to like him. I know and I dont. But this whole thread is asking why people like arvo, not pity him or sympathize with him. So far ive seen nothing.

  • In any way possible? You make it sound like he's the worst villian, enemy, whatever, in the whole game. He is not a goody two-shoes either, but I doubt many people like him, at least here, but I've seen some people on Tumblr.

It was obvious that he was very very mad at Clementine, and he was overreacting. Kind of like Lee was with his ex-wife's 'lover', Kenny with Jane... The key word being KIND OF, just to make that clear.

That doesn't absolve Arvo in any way possible. He's still a bad person for the things he did such as shooting Clementine for no real reason

Plus, I guarantee you most of the people who "love" Arvo are pro-Jane and anti-Kenny. I don't think you can honestly and what would that have to do with liking a character?

This is one of the many reasons i like Gavin Hammon when playing Kenny. He just comes out with hilarious lines such as this. This is why i am also a big Kenny fan! Some of the lines he was scripted to say have had me howling and I shouldn't laugh but when he gets angry, that's when he's the most amusing

  • Arvo nor his crew knew that there were two kids in said group plus five adults, so you should not factor that in when it comes to them deciding to retaliate. They did not have that knowledge, though you make it sound as if they were aware of it when they headed toward the observation deck for the second time.

  • Except Lee redeemed himself and we know next to nothing about the situation between Lee and his ex-wife's 'lover', besides the fact that he regrets it and it was clearly murder (we don't know if he threatened Lee, said anything else to instigate him, maybe even had a weapon or used his influence as governor against Lee), though I can't remember if he was a governor, senator, etc.

Kenny with Jane was once again, a much different situation and not going to lie but I never said that he was necessarily absolved either. He was a horrible person and yeah he overreacted.

With Arvo, yeah no, he still sucks. Comparing his actions to that of others isn't going to make him seem any more likeable.

  • Arvo definitely knew. He 100% knew that there was at least one kid in their group (and even without knowledge of the baby, one kid is already bad enough). He encounters Clementine before, he straight up speaks to Clementine when he goes up to them near the end of 'Amid The Ruins', so he definitely told the group about Clementine and the others. Also, when did I ever say they were heading to the observation deck for the second time or even imply that? I just said, Arvo wholeheartedly knew there was at least one child in their group and upon hearing the baby crying, they must have known there was now a child and a baby. Once again this isn't something that's debatable, you see that they knew about Clementine and later they discover AJ, yet they proceed to attack the group anyway.

Arvo nor his crew knew that there were two kids in said group plus five adults, so you should not factor that in when it comes to them decid

  • Like I said already, KIND OF, the same things in both cases being murder and overreaction, sadly. But there aren't much cases when murder is justified though.

He was a senator IIRC, and we don't knwo if he threatened Lee like we don't know if the Russian group had done something like that to Arvo.(Him shooting Clementine is another story, I suppose). See the pattern? Both are theories.

  • I didn't really feel anything for him. But that's mostly just because I saw Arvo more as a plot device than an actual character.

  • Well yeah, Arvo was practically portrayed as an individual to make Kenny a bully in Episode 5 - I still don't understand why no one in the group remembered the town as their original destination but instead trusted Arvo instead of making him leave. I wouldn't make assumptions that people who 'bash' Kenny are often fans of Jane just because there are allot of people who dislike both characters or who like both characters or even just Kenny and not Jane but liked to point out flaws in their liked characters.

@TWDazehnuu is kind of implying that sympathy toward Arvo is most of the times a scapegoat in order to bash on Kenny, and hence, they are also often fans of Jane. Those are not my words though.

  • Arvo lost his only sister and Kenny throughout the rest of the game torments him while he is defenseless. Arvo will rise and make everybody wish that they never crossed paths with the almighty Lord Arvo.

  • Yeah no complaints about the voice acting for Arvo.

Eh, I've just kind of gotten tired of stating my viewpoint, especially since I usually say it to the same people who won't change their mind unless something big happens in the story that'll dramatically shift our viewpoints on characters. We can say all we want how we'll kill a character the first opportunity we get before the episode the choice will happen in is released, but you never know what new info, revelation or the context of a situation will change your mind.

You should probably make a post on it, though. …and foresee a wave of disagreement.

  • You said the following…

Arvo clearly went in with rose-tinted glasses in the hopes that he could just rob Clementine, leaving a baby, a child, and a group of five adults (including Rebecca; mother of said baby) defenseless in the freezing cold with little to no food, medicine, water, or basically any supplies.

…and he could only have this train of thought before actually going along with participating in the ambush. However, he only knew that Jane and Clementine existed at that time, not the baby and other four adults.

It would not be naive to believe that a group of four would be able to successfully rob a pair of survivors, one of which is a kid. I want to make clear that I condone robbing, though.
