Both suck and I'm disappointed. I wished that I could pull a Gordon Ramsey move "It's not good enough, get out now !" Then I could take over the writing process and produce quality and not garbage.
A step down ... As the game loses more touch with S1, the writing is getting more desperate , I truly expect the so called writers to put a death scene with clem in ep5 so that people will compare it with Lee's genuine emotional death just so they can take some plaudits
I think it is a big step down from S2, I actually think S2 is way better. Telltale once again trick us more then once by saying that the S2's endings will matter in this game, they brought up this whole "42 starting point" bullshit, and the lack of character development. It makes me feel like telltale doesn't even listen to us, we asked if Kenny or Jane can live longer than a few minutes, they didn't do that. Everybody from S1 and S2 are either unknown or dead (Excluding Clementine of course). It just so infuriating, because telltale had two years to work on this game. I'm not saying a new frontier is shit, but it's disappointing as hell.
Oh Jesus the reused soundtracks are driving me crazy.
It's like, they either reuse voice actors and have new music, or they use new voice actors and have the same music. There's always a fuck up somewhere and things always come with a catch.
In some places, it's a step up-- visual fidelity, cinematography, scope of the world/environment, stuff like that.
In other places, it's … moremore or less remained on the same step-- still lacking in hubs and characterization, albeit I'm more attached to the S3 group as of episode 2 than I was for the cabin group of as episode 2.
And in others, it has tumbled back down the stairs-- for me, length and the choice impacts from the first two seasons so far.
I know we all have our own different reasons for why we like-- or don't like-- S3 thus far, but for me, length is the biggest offender so far. The flashbacks... well, I'm still pissed, but they happened. Unlike length, this isn't something that can really be fixed, unless Telltale decides to retcon the flashbacks and play them off like they were bad dreams or something (normally, I'd call BS if someone tried to do this. But for the flashbacks, I'd make an exception). So all you can really … [view original content]

When I first saw this thread I though I liked the first two episode of s3 more than the first two of s2.
But, I just replayed S2 and holy shit... When S2 released I thought the pacing was bad and it lacked character development, and it still does, but it looks so much better and perfect when you compare it to season 3 which had absolutely none of these things. I know more and care more about the whole cabin group in E1 &E2 than the few characters in S3. Reason? Length. There's a perfect amount of action in s3, which is great. The problem is that it's just that. There's only action. No slow down, no conversations, no connection, not enough time to do these things.
Telltale, I get that you made the new "90 minute rule" but just because you announced it doesn't mean you need to stick with it. It's not set in stone, no one likes it. It clearly is not working so why must you stay with it? And I seriously don't want to here the "quality over quantity" or "one sitting" crap again. Telltale staff themselves said they don't have enough time to put quality into the episodes and they're always rushing. Lost of people say quality or quantity, but that's not the case here. Telltale, Quantity = Quality.
I mean just look at that community we visited this season, what's it called? ( maybe if I spent enough time there I would've remember/appreciate it) It already went up in flames and immediately the plot demands that we move forward to the next location...

I don't even remember half the Character's names in season 3 but I can remember a Cow's name from season 1 which had more development than S3 characters. Still feel bad for Maybelle's unborn calf.
Shorter episodes kill the pacing...

The worst part about this is that it might be too late for any of this feedback or response to have an effect on the season even if TellTale wanted to act on it.
Episode 3 was probably well underway before Episodes 1 & 2 were even released and by then half the season will be done.
The second half of the season, the part that probably should be more action orientated, will not be able to compensate for the lack of development or proper pacing in the first half. The pacing will either continue or accelerate, especially if we continue to have close to 1 hour episodes.
I really hope that this is wrong, but I think any doubts are more than justified.

Yeah both episodes focused more on action than any decent gameplay, characterisation or storytelling. Telltale have gone so badly since the good old days
I remember being the first person to comment on the plethora of action segments the trailer showed off and was immediately alarmed at how li… morettle we were being shown of any characters or their overarching plight.
Boom! Truck tips over and now you and Clem are gunning hordes of walkers down... Now, there's gas cans and some dick doing Naruto jutsu shit. Boom! Explosions! Michael Bay! Guns! Bam!
I think @Dont_Look_Back summed up my issues with this season perfectly. We need more time to interact with the characters if we're to actually invest and grow to give a shit about them. It's two entire episodes in and I still know little to nothing about any of the main cast. What's their motivation? Backstory? Likes? Dislikes? None of those things seem to have been included, despite being some of the most important factures in constructing a believable and likable character. Instead, Telltale have decided to cram in some action and expect it to distract from the lack of character development, all because they want shorter episodes.
The worst part about this is that it might be too late for any of this feedback or response to have an effect on the season even if TellTale wanted to act on it.
Exactly. They can't rewrite it or just magically add an hours worth of content in each of the episodes in one month's wait.
Also, they need more conversations and dialogue during the hubs. You know what this requires? More voice recordings, which they are practically already done with. I think it's safe to say the season won't improve, which it shouldn't have needed to in the first place because these problems arent new. S2 had the same problems and we've been telling them about these problems for over three years now. Ultimately I don't see the point in releasing them episodically if they don't even have enough time to make improvements in between episodes anyways.

It's sad how memorable S1+S2 are going to be than this.
Suddenly remembered that I had a sketch with how the Motor Inn group had Maybelle with them while watching Lee beating up David. Oh God no, there are two Davids in the TWDG universe!! They didn't do a background check to come up with an original name... sigh

They had 2 years to come here & read every complaint (or popular threads at that time) about S2's missing-pointless plots, choices, about characters, about the rushed pace that kills the building of the story...
Heck I even hoped they would implement these changes into S3 but instead they started pulling off these dumb cliches. What is the point of this community then? For us to hang out? I thought it was for them to read our feedback about their games, (why even have separate sections then if it's not that?) even this new team could've reed this if they were passionate enough.. but seeing how they still haven't fixed even the little things around here like this double messages or even add a background for this forum and the (important part of the) staff stopped communicating with us, I realized they just don't care.

A step down and then tripped down some stairs. I can't really say ANF improved on anything and I'm just not connected, nor can I empathize with any of these characters all that much. But we're not done yet.
A fucking mess. I rarely cuss yet the team of this series makes me very angry. We are seeing a COD like situation here. Before it was cool, I would brag on Treyarch cause Infinity Ward would make terrible campaigns in my opinion, while Treyarch would at least try back in the day and they actually made a good campaign in COD World at War. The creators of Batman made a killer game and those same creators made an OK campaign in Tales from the Borderlands. It looks like I'm going to start following their games cause the current staff of Walking Dead are making terrible quality games in my opinion.

Yes, major step up.
So far, no. I do not think the first two episodes of season 3 have been as good as the first two of season 2.
It doesn't help that in total there's about 1 hour less playtime there.

Yes. Yes. Yes. I think they completely forgot that your relationship with Kenny is completely determinant in season 1.
Step down. Not to say Season Three is bad by any means, but it just doesn't have the same umph as the previous two seasons.

Maybe they could have fixed these problems if they didn't have yet another new team of writers and designers working on S3
You know, instead of the people that worked on S2 and probably would have actually listened to the feedback
But I guess they put all of those guys on GoTG instead or something
