Give Irene the gun?

I am replaying S1 and just finished A New Day. After finding out Irene was bit, did you give her the gun? I did not, however I'm not sure if that's the right decision. I would like to hear your thoughts on this!

Comments

  • I did and she shot herself. I don't know which decision is the "right" one.

  • I feel like if Lee doesn't let her shoot herself, Lee is quite hypocritical if he makes Clementine shoot him at the end.

  • It really depends. If you plan on shooting Duck and Lee rather than leaving them, than for the sake of consistency I'd say give her the gun.

To this day I still don't know which playstyle I prefer.

I gave her the gun. It was her decision, and she was already on borrowed time since she had been bitten

  • Gave her the gun. It's definitely the right choice.

  • After reading all your comments, I've decied to give her the gun. Thanks guys!

  • Not really, since he's not shooting himself.

  • No problem.

  • If he shot himself it would of been the same thing as Clementine shooting him.

If you ask her to shoot you, it's still taking your own life. Anyone who is bitten would rather die than turn, so if Lee doesn't let the girl fulfill her wish, it's quite hypocritical if he asks Clementine to put him out of his misery later on.

I actually didn't care about her ending herself too much, I was actually just worried about the noise she would make in the process.

Everyone (almost) deserves a gracious exit. Especially if the alternative is to reanimate as a walking corpse. Period

  • What kind of person would not give her the gun? She was dead either way...this way let her go out on her own terms.

  • What kind of person would not give her the gun?

    Cowards

What kind of person would not give her the gun? She was dead either way...this way let her go out on her own terms.

  • The only reasonable excuse to not give Irene the gun is if it would seem that Irene would misuse it and get someone shot by accident.

Since this is the Walking Dead universe, it would seem more merciful to end one's life on our terms rather than let ourselves turn into a soulless being.

  • The most moral reason is to never give uip hope. They didn't really know what a bite did at that point. If you do give her the gun, Glenn criticizes you and says "You never know, you can't give up hope."

What kind of person would not give her the gun? She was dead either way...this way let her go out on her own terms.

  • However, one thing you have to consider is that it would be much easier to decide someone else's fate than your own. I'm not saying I've been in this situation, but nobody is perfect, and it's probably much easier to deny someone the right to kill themselves when they needed it, than deny it for yourself later on. Maybe by the time Lee was finally in Irene's position, he realized what Irene was feeling, and decided it was best Clem shot him?

Yeah, and I do consider it. I do agree with what you said. You also got to note, this was before Lee really knew much about this outbreak, it was so early that he may have not of understood what would happen or simply didn't know yet, besides Larry freaking out about it.

I believe that Lee learned a lot during his complete character arc, and by the end he realized why Irene wanted to take her own life.

  • I was actually just worried about the noise she would make in the process.

Geez haha, I didn't let her have the gun the first time either, I never like taking another life in games.

  • When I played for the first time, I wanted the option to shoot her myself. The game doesn't let you though, so I just let her commit suicide. My reasoning at the time was that it isn't right to just leave someone to turn. Looking back on it though, I don't feel right about letting her off herself. I wouldn't want to shoot her myself at this point either.

  • Maybe some people were concerned about surrendering their only weapon to an unhinged woman. I gave it to her, but I would have preferred an option to be able to shoot her myself so I don't have to worry about any shenanigans with the gun.
