It's not my job to deal with the reception, it's Job's. I don't care how he does it, as long as he does. In the first "AMA" (more like "Ask me anything I want to hear"), he blatantly ignored and/or deleted many comments that he didn't have an answer to or didn't want to answer, most of which were not in the least bit insulting, e.g. the comment by @BetterToSleep. On top of that, he used the pre-schooler excuse of "I was sick" not once, but twice. Once would have been fair enough, everyone gets sick sometimes, but twice just sounds like bullshit to me. Even if it was legitimate, answering some questions on an internet forum is not something you can't do out of bed, especially if you already seemingly plan on giving vague or no answers to many questions anyway.

And public relations isn't about "one thousand ways of writing 'cool story bro'", it's about establishing a good connection with the fanbase, and reconciling with them, or at least try to, in case things go sour. To be fair, Job did try a bit harder with the second AMA, answering unpleasant questions as well, but most of the answers are non-answers if you actually read them. They're honestly on the same level as "I hope future games win you back!".

I'm not even sure what to expect any more. The way Telltale has been addressing their public is outrageous, and the fact that they had two years to develop this game only to rush out this draft of a story just makes me think that they'll continue with the same formula with the next episodes - 1h gameplay, shallow characters and plot.

At this point, I'm sure that any improvements they make - if they make any at all, that would the best case scenario - these improvements will surely be shallow. Maybe they'll toss in a few extra lines of dialogue in a weak attempt to make you connect to the characters or add a good fight scene in the episode, then just fill the rest of it with QTE's, then call it a day and say, "Meh, it's good enough."

I mean, let's be real, what are the chances that they are working hard behind the scenes and will whip out three GOOD episodes that make up for the previous two?

Not high, but it isn't impossible.

That was actually another point that I forgot to mention - the fact that they so little story to tell that they're forced to split the first episode into two just shows how much they're scraping the bottom of the barrel just to get by.

  • It's showing 3k I think once the season is finished it'll be more...sadly

  • I understand. I just don't get what people expect from those threads--its obvious Job can't change shit about the fact that the game is shit. He also obviously can't provide a single meaningful answer either because he doesn't have them, or because they'd make the company look bad...yet people keep returning there for more futile masochism.

  • Telltale already listens to and are aware of fan feedback from the forums. That doesn't mean it can always be applied, but they have said several times they do listen to people here.

All these questions asked and answered....but I can't but think what questions will affect the game! Will he address ANY of these criticisms to telltale?

I'm sorry Lee, I guess some of us are more like Kenny...we just can't deal with this bullshit civilly.

The product can only be as good as the team you assemble, so its unrealistic to expect any changes at this point. They wanted a more "main stream" commercialized product that would stretch across more platforms, so they hired accordingly. The game became just another clone of those shitty console games that all look the same and take little creative investment during production. These changes are systemic, and deal more with the changing ideology of the company I feel, rather than merely not "trying hard enough" or making wrong creative in-project decisions.

While this is my exact reaction to what I've read in this, you are absolutely right but please don't say the game became a clone of other games, it's like comparing COD with Battlefield or Mortal Kombat with Street Fighter, every game is unique in its own way, sure we may disagree on this subsequently

  • I have never seen a corner of the internet so rife with bitchy, whiny, tantrum-throwing, basement-dwelling losers as the TT Community discussion boards. Y'all act like a bunch of self-entitled, all-knowing, over-reacting dickwads. Bitching about a game that isn't even finished yet is premature and pointless. If you hate it so much, then vote with your wallet and don't buy the next episode or season. Telltale owes you no explanations or apologies, and they can't watch their message boards 24/7/365 and reply to every single question or bit of criticism. Sometimes new games are a hit, sometimes they are duds, but that's just the way it goes in the video game industry. Deal with it or move on.

    I have a glorious idea

get up from your computer, phone, tablet or laptop, turn around, walk out the door, then continue to walk out of your house or place of residence

then keep walking until you are no longer in view

or more simply put: stop doing what you are currently doing

So if I bought this season I'm tough out of luck? Your logic makes no fucking sense, lol. The reason half of us bought this season was based off stuff Telltale told us, then haven't followed through, and this isn't shit that comes later in the season, these things should've been in the game from launch based on what they were telling us.

Telltale owes you no explanations or apologies

But apparently we owe them $25 to keep our mouths shut and enjoy whatever they put out regardless of how much we dislike it so far?

Deal with it or move on.

Fuck no. I paid money that I worked hard for, therefore I will complain if I'm dissatisfied. You deal with it.

  • I mean, a game like this is way different from another game. This isnt a game that was hyped, and the whole thing came out and was bad. This isnt done yet, and if Telltale listens to criticism it can make fans happy again.

Right now Id say fans are more mad at Telltale's way of handling the situation than the game itself. Having questions answered in a not very mature way is not how a company should be handled, aswell as deleting questions and criticisms. Obviously theres alot of people who act immature about the problem, but Telltale should not respond to questions in ways like "Ding Ding Ding" or just keep repeating "keep playing" and "We dont really agree with what fans think" or "cool story bro."

A game like this that isnt 100% finished and has gotten alot of fan backlash still has a chance to be fixed up to make fans happy and tell a good story. However, seeing things Telltale says and mostly ignoring and not really answering questions, or answering them in an immature manor. Also more immaturity and toxicity comes from fans due to Telltale not following promises. Telltale cant act like radio silence is "a-okay" as it leaves fans in the dark, especially after being promised something "x" day but it never happens that day, more than once. Basically, Telltale not responding to any fans causes problems, because people want them game to get better, but we cant even be sure if Telltale is truly listening, or just doing half assed "Yeah we hear your feedback, but we arnt going to change anything." which seems to be their attitude.

Reducing real people who take the time to manifest themselves to mere haters is typical online behavior employed to dehumanize them and, in that way, feel comfortable with ourselves about not paying attention to the valid criticisms that they offer—even if the form is not civil.

  • Ah. Defenders of the game use personal insults as a counter argument, while people who arent happy give a detailed 50 number list of things wrong with the season and how to improve it.

    Alrighty.
