Gabe is being built to take the reigns from Clementine.

Hold onto your hats boys and girls.

Telltale are putting some serious evolution into Gabe, they are building him toward being a strong and capable character that we can mold in future seasons, and with him being around Clementine's age I believe we are either looking at the two of them being the forefront of Season Four, or Gabe will become to sole lead for us as we venture onwards. If Clementine doesn't die this season, then she will next season, and thus she will pass the torch onto Gabe, there is only so much fuel left in her character and development now and with Telltale trying to gain new fans, it makes sense that introducing Gabe now and having him grow will see Clementine eventually be replaced, just as the plan is apparently to have Carl replace Rick in the comic. I say we perhaps have one more season just to show Clementine make it to adulthood, and then we say goodbye.

Though part of me has some serious heebies that our Clementine is going to die at the end of THIS season, the next two episodes will be a hunt to rescue AJ and it will end in either the death of Javier to save Gabe, or Clementine will die protecting AJ, coming full circle as Lee and Kenny died protecting her. It's poetic and I can see it coming.

Anybody want to weigh in on my thoughts?

she will pass the torch onto Gabe

If this happens Telltale will lose 95% of their fans and their sales will be at an all-time low - mainly because Clementine won't be the protagonist and Gabe is massively hated everywhere.

  • How to commit financial suicide 101

  • No Clem no buy.

  • Telltale won't really lose all that much. I don't know how sales are for this Season, but I bet they're no less than they previously were, and I remember so many people griping about playing as Javier and not as Clementine. All good things must come to an end. Everywhere Clementine goes, everyone she hangs with, dies. Someday it's got to be her turn. It will happen, and though i would rather have Mariana replaced Clementine, it seems they're going with Gabe instead.

Dude, they're dropping. All the info is online all you need to do is the research.

  • I just searched google and there are no news stories about Season Three sales at all. Perhaps link me to one? If they are indeed dropping I can't see why. Above the Law was the best episode Telltale have had writing wise in a long time.

  • Compare these two.

  • serious evolution into Gabe

As much as I'd love for Clem to be gone from the story at this point. Gabe has the opposite of an evolving character progression and giving him the lead focus of the story would be abysmal.

  • What are we comparing? The sales of a game that's been out for nearly 6 years, to one that's been out 3 months and only half over?

Do we have any stats on where Season One was sales wise after the third episode compared to ANF?

I doubt we do, and they'd be hard to find if so, with time scales alone it's pretty much impossible to see if sales are dropping...?

    Compare these two.

  • How does he have the opposite to an evolution? He's standing up for himself, making his own choices, believing who he wants to believe, whereas at the start he was always running away and coming across feeble. He's still going to make mistakes and suffer for them, but being headstrong in his convictions is definitely a step forward, not backwards. He may unravel toward to end of this season but for now he's definitely not going backwards character wise.

  • I mean I love Gabe and all but I can't see him straight up talking Clem's role in the series.

  • I don't see how habitually whining about sleeping in a car or stabbing a docile walker or abandoning a severely injured woman after promising to help is in any way seen as "evolving."

    I just don't see it.

    They won't let Clem die.
I believe Clem and Gabe are sole survivors, like Carl and Sofia are in the comics.
    The little heroes.

I believe they will become a duo, like being family. Perhaps a brother/sister relation or a boyfriend/girlfriend relation.
They are a potential for future adventures.
We might play Gabe and Clem equally times in the next Season.

  • ANF had tons of refunds. Tons. The steam ratings are also still decreasing (they're much lower than previous seasons as well - S1 97%, S2 96%, ANF 77%). Once I saw the game go from 145k to 118k. The game was stuck in the 140k - 150k area for a long time now. Sales are fluctuating a lot.

Well, it is interesting to see such boy to develop.
At least he had some experiences and only can become stronger after this.

Remember Kenny stabbed a docile walker too after Sarita's death, so did Gabe after Mariana's.
    Grieving peoples don't make sense.

Perhaps it is an insult to Gabe lol.

    But I get it.
You are still mourning for the deaths of our loved ones from the previous seasons and can't accept any new characters.
    I felt kinda the same.

  • Everybody constantly dying sounds like it's more so the writings fault than an actual need to kill off every character in every new entry, which wouldn't sit well for Gabe following the next entry if this is what we base it on. Regardless, I'm sure TT can't really lose that much, if the steam sales numbers that were posted here of Michonne are any indication. It did pretty terrible, and is sitting at close to the same steam user rating as ANF currently is. And this was following a well known and popular figure from the comics and show.

  • Well, I got the feeling that only Gabe, AJ, Clementine and maybe Javier will be the last survivors of this season and we can play Gabe and/or Clem in the next season. (In that case I bet that TTG would add the option to start a romantic relationship between them, while I actually hate this ship from the button of my heart...) But yeah, I think Gabe will (sadly) be one of the surviviors and next protagonists. But I don't think they would ever kill off Clementine. Atleast maybe let her disappear into the distance like Kenny at the Wellington ending.

  • I don't know what else to call it, since fear(or rather hate)-monger would describe you specifically and I'd rather not call you that unless you had a serious history.

  • I'm pretty sure he means that Gabe evolved from that to actively getting involved in the action and openly standing up for what he believes is right. Not that he technically wasn't trying to do the latter for years, but still.

  • If that happens you must kill me first buddy

  • I would not mind playing as Gabe in the next season and have Clem sort of be like a guardian to him after javier dies like how Kenny was more or less a guardian to her in season 2 .

  • I would dislike it, because I dislike Gabe being in ZA for 4 years acting like he's only a few weeks in.

  • Building up Gabe: That's Good. I'm all for that!

Killing off Clem: No Fucking Way!

  • You can't just have anyone take the spotlight. Gabe wouldn't be able to handle it. You need to have a fanbase, charisma, good character development or at least potential to be a good character. Gabe has none of these. Plus I doubt they are even building him up to take over. It is a scary thought though.

  • Now that you mention it, what exactly defines having potential to be a good character?
