  • It's like we can't have straight protagonists anymore. Holy shit.

  • Sounds like a bunch of he said, she said shit to me.

  • Well Kate is determinant now so I think her death might just add drama to Javier's life. At one point he'll have to move on and maybe then his sexuality will be important.

That's possible. It still has no bearing on the Javi-Kate-David romance drama. If Javi is in love with Kate, he is in love with Kate. The po

Okay, that's cool I guess, but why though? Seriously, what is the point? It feels very tacked on and shoehorned in, with the sole purpose of having a character "represent." It adds nothing to the story, adds nothing to the character, and adds pretty much nothing overall.

I'm all good with gay/bi characters being included in this type of stuff, as long as they're represented well and have a genuine purpose for being included.

    I honestly couldn't care less.

Its just randomly thrown in there at the end possibly so that the game would be liked more seeing the word "represent". If it wasnt for the Jesus scene Javier looks the straightest in the game which is why it is just a random trait that doesn't seem to fit him.

Javier's confirmed to be bi no matter what option is chosen.

  • What's the point? Serves absolutely nothing to the story.

  • Well actually I depends on who is playing. My Javier is far from bi. He stole my brother's girl while being his brother best bro! She died in my play through tho.

  • What's your evidence for that?

Shall we play a game where we take it in turns to count telltale protagonists who aren't straight? I'll go first: Javier. Your turn!

There doesn't have to be a 'point', does there?

I'm confused by a lot of the criticism regarding non-straight characters - on the one hand, if you make the story remotely about them not being straight you get accused of 'shoving it down people's throats'. If you make it so it has no relevance to the story, people say 'why make him non-straight?'.

You know bi people are attracted to women, right?

  • This still makes me so happy. Even if the rep sucks a bit and definitely could have been mentioned in a previous ep either by flirting with someone or outright saying it, I'm still super happy that Javi is bi. And I always will be.

  • So what? or maybe the better question is why didn't Telltale put a guy in the game as an alternative love interest to Kate? like whats the point of making him bisexual when the game heavily implies he's straight? I didn't pick the "I like you Jesus" line so I didn't get that determinant one-liner at the end of the game that actually hints that JESUS is gay/bi.... if u didn't know....and says nothing about Javier. He was straight in my mind just not interested in cheating with his brothers wife.

Do you need a reason every time a straight person is represented?

augh. dont go to the reddit version of this thread. It's just a bunch of people screaming "pandering" like anyone not straight isn't allowed to be identified as such.

It's not nearly as bad as Blizz forums with Tracer being gay. The aggressive "I DONT CARE LOOK HOW MUCH IM TOTALLY NOT BOTHERED BY THIS" comments were everywhere.

  • Honestly this feels like a last ditch attempt to try and nske jaci interesting

  • It adds nothing to the story, adds nothing to the character, and adds pretty much nothing overall.

If there is a narrative purpose people say they're making the character 'all about their sexuality' and that they're 'ramming it down our throats'.

It's a no win. I'm so confused as to whether people criticising non-straight character writing want sexuality to be no big deal or to be a huge deal.

  • Oh boo hoo whatever shall we do???

It's not like there's only been five confirmed LGBT+ characters in TWDG compared to however many straight characters there are. Poor you.

to be fair, Javier didn't really get an opportunity to calmly talk to new outfit sexier Jesus until after all the chaos ended.

And it's not like the other guys are that attractive. Javier only hits on the top tier like Kate, Eleanor, and Jesus.

Sorry Tripp and Ava, you didn't make the cut.

I'd be happy if it wasn't shoehorned at literally the last minute of the last episode.

Because lots of people just get annoyed at LGBT being recognized in video games, period. It's a sad reality.

Lots of game writers these days HAVE to reveal the fact that a character is homosexual late in development otherwise a fandom often takes their entire character as "the gay character". And even when they do so, it's an accusation of pandering.

In this case the writer literally said it was a "write what you know" situation. But people will still screech pandering and muh shoehorn.

Protagonist is revealed lgbt+ later on:

    PANDERING! SHOEHORN! REEEEEEEEEEEEEE

    Protagonist is lgbt+ at all:

I have 2 gay friends IRL

They gotta fill that blank board of a character, with some scribble-y nonsense pandering.

  • I'm speechless.

  • Also they need to be completely stereotypical, otherwise they "don't look LGBT" which means they were actually supposed to be straight.

Because, you know, that's totally how it works (not).

So what now? Are we're going to throw a party for representation. @Flog61 Hey congrats man, you finally got your wish!!!!

  • With the way things are going I predicting the mods are going to eventually shut this thread down

  • Honestly I'm kind of proud of telltale. Literally the only other LGBT+ male protagonist from a major video game franchise is Jacon Frye from AC Syndicate. Every other LGBT+ is typically an attractive woman.

Having a guy be LGBT+ is seen as a big marketing risk sadly due to "pushing away" the majority playerbase.

Now I can only hope Javier doesn't immediately die next season from BuryYourGays syndrome (or bi in this case)
