It's fine to play as a little girl when you are not a little girl, but not as a bisexual man unless you are a bisexual man?
This isn't a … morerole playing game, it is an interactive narrative. You are not playing as yourself anyway. If some aspects of a character being different from you bother you but other aspects do not, you should ponder on why that happens.
Reductio ad absurdum.
Shall we play a game where we take it in turns to count telltale protagonists who aren't straight? I'll go first: Javier. Your turn!
Exactly. It doesn't matter. It's not a relevant part of his character.
Eh, I'd believe it to be relevant, but I definitely don't think we need an entire circlejerk thread dedicated to this.
My whole thing about this is we've spent the entire game being Javi and this is the first time we're finding out he's Bi. Like I know sexuality isn't relevant but you'd think this at least would've been brought up sooner than literally the last few seconds of the game. Maybe had Javi been able to flirt with Jesus back when they first met, it'd be different or something i dunno. Just kind of has that feeling like Telltale went "Btw Javi's Bisexual." out of left field.
I'm starting to understand this point more and more as it's brought up. I wonder if the reaction would have been the same if this option happened in like episode 1 or 2.
Heck, I wonder how different the perspective would be if the plot was the exact same but Kate was a dude.
The plot would still be really funky, but still, fun to think about.

A woman being interested on you doesn't make you straight. Your orientation depends on who you are attracted to, and not on who is attracted to you. You assumed he was heterosexual because most characters are heterosexual. I assumed that too, don't worry, I was very surprised by the option to flirt with Jesus (and very happy too, because he is a great character).
Because we knew for a fact he could be attracted to Kate since there were options available for that, we could say "Well he likes women". Thing is, liking women doesn't necessarily mean not liking men. Javier is bisexual, not homosexual. Therefore, absolutely nothing about him being bisexual contradicts his established character.
You can wonder then why he didn't flirt with a different male character. And I ask, do you feel attracted to everybody of the gender you like? I'm female, heterosexual, and I do not feel attracted to every male.
Probs just me, but Javi being bisexual doesnt really work too well.
For one the, Jesus was the one flirting not Javi, I didnt know saying someone is bad ass = I love you.
Also the whole Javi X Kate thing. It was so forced the whole season, so the fact that at the VERY end of the game after either Kate or David is dead so the stupid love triangle shit goes away its "OH YEAH BTW JAVI ACTUALLY IS BISEXUAL ISNT THAT NEAT LMAO"
Plus, Javi the whole season showed no signs of being bisexual, he can flirt with Kate and Eleanor.
If anything it shows Telltale didnt have the balls to just come out and have Javi being Bi. Why couldnt Javi hit on Tripp? Or Conrad? Or any other male characters?
It really doesnt matter at all that Javi is now "officially bi" its just hilariously stupid because how its just shoved in there last second just for "representation." How about next time Telltale grows some balls and starts off the character as Bisexual/gay/ or whatever sexual orientation the character is suppose to be from the very start instead of going "lol hes bi" for 2 seconds, 5 mins before the game ends so Telltale doesnt have to even handle the "touchy" subject matter.
As someone who is bi myself, yeah I feel like they were in the meeting room and someone said "Anyways, what is Javi's sexuality?" and they decided to go with bi just to get some bonus points from people like me. Feels kind of like pandering to me, and that feeling is annoying. I much prefer Max from Life Is Strange.

I'm not bi, but that's exactly how I saw it as well...it seemed forced for bonus support points from the community as a desperate attempt to incline an audience. I'm glad someone stopped the circlejerk.

And?

That makes a lot of sense. Not about Javier being bisexual, but about how the last episode has its own separate writer. It really felt off and it was so weird how everyone just changed in the last episode.
I didnt know saying someone is bad ass = I love you.
But it isn't. Javier doesn't flirt with Jesus unless you select the option after "You know what they say" which is pretty clear.
Also the whole Javi X Kate thing. It was so forced the whole season,
I didn't romance Kate at all. You are able to deny her completely
OH YEAH BTW JAVI ACTUALLY IS BISEXUAL ISNT THAT NEAT LMAO
Is this really how people view it?

He also doesn't flirt with Ava. Saying he should flirt with someone like Tripp or Conrad implies bi = flirt with everyone. It just so happens the people he flirts with are the conventionally attractive ones (Eleanor, Kate, Jesus). He's bi, but he has preferences, clearly.
It really doesnt matter at all that Javi is now "officially bi" its just hilariously stupid because how its just shoved in there last second just for "representation." as harshly as this is worded imho, I think that's a respectable complaint. Wishing the same thing to occur earlier on isn't an unreasonable desire.

When you add something that involves politics to things like that, arguments are always bound to happen. People are going to go to far and name calling will be thrown
We don't know if it was a last minute change, although I agree that I would have liked a few more hints just to avoid this kind of discussion. He only expressed romantic interest in two people before Jesus, two women, but liking women is a prerequisite for being bi so maybe Telltale wanted to avoid the "shoving down our throats" comments that show up when the sexuality of a LGBT character is made too obvious. There is no winning here, for them.
But I agree that him being bi absolutely does not excuse his lack of personality, at all. But at least Jesus is a better character than Kate, in my opinion. I would certainly have preferred to make my Javi leave with Jesus than stay with Kate.
I was pointing out at how there was no build-up/hints/talks about it in like earlier episodes about it.
It's like a last minute change.
… more And the fact that Javier was a complete blank character and that somehow his sexuality excuses the forgotten personality is just mind boggling.
Maybe they could've sneaked in a few shower talks during his baseball days, that would've been a joke/subtle hint.
I'm a secret writer from Telltale and I can 100% confirm that Lee was also bi, even though there is nothing to back this up in season 1 whatsoever.
But fret not! we're making plans on having a Clem flashback scene of about one minute where she saw Lee saying that Kenny had a cool 'stache... That's gotta make him a bi, right!?

tfw when you hets are complaining about people shoving javier's sexuality down your throats, yet none of you complained about the boring ass het woman in the same game forcefully flirting with you and then punishing your ass if you don't accept her petty crush
jfc not even to mention that one scene with jesus is determinant and it only lasts for two lines of dialogue

Actually, I'm pretty sure that's the majority of the reason some people decided to hate on Kate.

i'm talking about in comparison to the complaints against javi/kate's relationship versus the complaints against javi/jesus' vague flirting when i mentioned that specifically. if i'm being honest, i enjoyed kate... i just believe that she was plagued by bad writing when it came down to any sort of romantic aspect with her and javier

There was a build up with the little girl.
There was no build up with a man being bisexual.

What German guy?
And why does it have to be build up with a character being bisexual but not with them being heterosexual?

Whatever, If he's playable again he'll continue to be straight as an arrow in my playthrough
A curious thing: He uses the same line for both.
"Takes one to know one"
Agreed. It's useless
I don't know...
... maybe because the game kept this "Kate's horny" gig for five episodes...
Javier Kate and Jesus three some let's get kinky
And he'll be into dudes in mine. That's the great thing about choice games.
Everyone can enjoy their own version of Javier.
Except, even if you keep him in a straight relationship, he will still be bi!
...Clementine?
I am inclined to agree.
A post on the details thread would've done the job.
Ok?

Yeah, that's usually how it comes off. Honestly, I think it's just capitalizating on thatPaulguy's popularity and adjusting Javier to make it so.

Honestly I feel like things have been fairly respectable and contained.
Of course, I'm actively participating so I wouldn't notice if I was bein' a r00d d00d.
But if I am or ever was, I'll take the time to apologize ahead of time.
LGBT+ male representation in video games is an important subject to me so I try to be as level headed as possible but slip ups can happen to anyone.

Hello mr secret writer. Will we also get a Clementine is bi scene in the last few seconds of season 4?
It's quite the pleasure seeing you, Mr Raviolli!
Can you also confirm that sexualities are social constructs?
Wait, really? I mean, that's awesome. Do you have evidence of this?

People say this every time that a major character in a video game isn't straight. It's seriously getting old.
Shoehorned? Is every bisexual man supposed to announce at every opportunity that they like dick?
