I generally like Kate, but in the final episode... she was inconsistent. She and David turn 180 with him wanting to leave and her wanting to stay and save Richmond. She causes the fight between Javier and David with saying that she loved both of them. Something else that also threw me off is that Kate was perfectly fine with Gabe going with David while in Episode 3 she begged Gabe to go with her (if you choose to leave Richmond). The Kate I know (from Ties That Bind I and II) would put Gabe(and Mariana) first! Hell, she should have been the one to say "I am going after Gabe!"
To add to the mix, after 3 minutes of mourning Gabe(determinant) or talking shit about David, she(if you accepted her feelings) wants TO HAVE BABIES! Seriously? There hasn't been a 3 or 4 months timeskip, it was 3 DAYS!
I liked David and I think he was a very interesting and complex character, but his character was ruined in From The Gallows. There were moments when I really felt sorry for him, like when Kate walked past him, when Gabe started acting awkward towards him (don't get me wrong, I am glad that Gabe got development and I am proud of him!)
I just threw him on there, I guess. The fact that Kate seemed vaguely paralyzed by recognizing, her account on what type of person has, and having to break the news to Gabe is an important piece of why that flashback was so amazing.

I generally like Kate, but in the final episode... she was inconsistent. She and David turn 180 with him wanting to leave and her wanting to stay and save Richmond.
This one is an example of what I call acceptable "inconsistency" because they [try to] establish why they change their minds: David doesn't want to lose again and would rather just take his family and run, while Kate feels guilty about the explosion setting off the walker invasion, especially after seeing the damage it did to the populace, even though it technically wasn't her fault.

I blame David for that personally, but whatever.

Good to hear, I guess. David to me went from a Necessary Weasel to a Potentionally Deep Main Antagonist to a Neat spin on an old character-type & changed for the better Ally that's just Okay to finally another particularly intolerable Copout--specifically, the Angry Dad Climax trope yet again.
Basically, if anyone was most likely to not survive, I'm almost happy that it's him.

So, I think I'll start off by recaping my general thoughts of ANF itself so far:
Not as good as Season 1 or 2
Validates a lot of my… more fears brought on from Season 2.5.
Too much action and shock over characterization and heart
Many characters are just there with little in the way of motivation or even a point
I'm pretty indifferent or just don't have any reason to care about many of them
Story is not very directed
Let that second to last line speak for the tone of my choices here

Yeah they were both pretty insufferable. I was supportive of David the whole game and he still tried to kill Javi. The man was a psychopath who resorted to violence when he didn't get his way. I can see the similarities between him and Kenny but for some reason when David lashes out in anger it pisses me off and when Kenny does the same it doesn't bother me. I guess that might be because of the quality of the writing.
As for Kate, she has the nerve to kiss Javi right in front of David for no reason except to piss David off. Then she goes on to talk about having a family with Javi just moments after grieving for Gabe and Mariana. That's on top of the fact that she has shown absolutely no survival skills the whole season. I can forgive when a character like Sarah or Ben have trouble surviving because they're kids, but Kate is a grown woman 4 years into the apocalypse, what excuse does she have for running straight into gunfire and getting shot?
for some reason when David lashes out in anger it pisses me off and when Kenny does the same it doesn't bother me. I guess that might be because of the quality of the writing.
Well that and Kenny became an aggressive asshole as the apocalypse went on and he lost people he cared about, while David was always a judgmental borderline abusive asshole who had it a lot easier.
Then she goes on to talk about having a family with Javi just moments after grieving for Gabe and Mariana.
Yeah, that weirded me out as well; what is she, a lion? At the very least, it could be her trying to prove she's ready to move on from their deaths by going on with her life happy to know they don't have to suffer through it anymore, but time will tell if she truly has. And given how those stories tend to go, she most likely hasn't.
That's on top of the fact that she has shown absolutely no survival skills the whole season.
To be fair, she didn't really get a lot of opportunities and they were caught by surprise when their guard was down. Plus, she was apparently the one in charge of keeping the family alive for four years, so I think it's a matter.
what excuse does she have for running straight into gunfire and getting shot?
Motherly instincts? Mariana was originally gonna be shot in the throat, so it's possible that may have something to do with it as well.
