You're right. The OTS will not take away from the cinematic feeling that others are claiming, will be missing.
The new engine has 3rd person feel using the OTS camera, similar to what you’d find in a lot of other popular episodic games. To me, this makes it all the more immersive, and less awkward (with console controls at least). The environment you’re interacting with also feels more fluid and responsive. Usually, when dialogue decisions are required, the camera adjusts a focus to provide a similar old-school cinematic feel.
It loses the cinematic framing element that this series has used so well from it's beginning.
Idk. It was ok but I feel like with an… more over the shoulder camera you can feel more “in control” of the character which makes it feel more like a game and less like a “playable movie” which these games have been called for years.
points toward combat being given more focus
Just because they’re improving a rather flawed aspect of their games doesn’t mean the game is gonna have more focus on it.
What are your reasons for wanting an OTS camera?
Because I want to be able to explore all of the new detailed environments and find gameplay interactions in hubs with a camera that doesn’t control what I can and can’t look at. Basically it gives the player more freedom in hubs.
If anyone's interested, the last E3 interview for Telltale is up. They go into some detail about what the beginning of EP1 will be like about 5 minutes in.
Is it me or is Clementine starting to look even MORE like Mariana?
