  • This is actually the most open Telltale has been about a game in advance.

I wonder why Telltale is being so secretive with "A New Frontier." There must be something that they don't want us to know until we play the game.

  • Oh, really? I didn't know that. They sure love making the fans crave more details.

Haven't recent games such as Tables from the Borderlands, Game Of Thrones and Michonne Miniseries lessened your worries?

The next Walking Dead news will likely come direct from Telltale themselves via Twitter or other social media. Let's just hope that's soon.

@OzzyUK I guess I can't... It's just that S2 really lowered my expectations for future of this series...

Story of S3 worries me, Javier saying how "close they are" by killing a zombie with a marked tattoo (that's how see your destination?!?), and the whole 2 player concept is a nice idea and all but the way they did it in Tales from Borderlands was really a "hit & miss", they could've done SO much more with it but to me it looked like they worked on a shift. (I guess I would've preferred a character that we know in Twdg universe that was least developed so that there would be some neutral ground instead of a new character that we no nothing about; it's a weird shift I guess) also Clems eyes looked really glossy like she's going to burst in tears...

The parallels between the S1 and this poster are making me think that maybe they will focus on S1 more... again... and we all know how that worked out...

Forgive me if I sound rude here, but what possible mistakes can you make out of this teaser? Ones that can't be explained by the fact that the game was in late alpha/early beta when the teaser was made?

Writing mistakes? Based off the single line of dialogue from Javier?

Environmental mistakes? Based off a bunch of placeholder assets made specifically for the teaser that probably won't even show up in the game proper? Or if they do, will go through heavy design changes? Like that alleyway that we probably won't even see in the game when it comes out? Or the entire scene in the teaser either not happening, or being changed heavily between now and release?

Mistakes with the models? You mean the three models that showed up, which were probably the only character models at the time that were anything close to finalized? The game's in alpha or early beta. Most developers leave art assets for last. Get everything else working before you pretty everything up. Why do you think game teasers are usually so bare-bones? Because that's about as much presentable gameplay they can scrounge together to show to people. The versions of the game they play test at the office are probably not fit to be shown to the public; characters with unfinished animations gliding around the map, unfinished lip sync, unfinished facial animations, half-finished models, scratch dialogue, characters that probably don't even have completed textures... the list goes on. This teaser is them compiling the most complete assets they have, and making a presentable and stable demonstration out of them. It shouldn't come as a surprise that there's going to be mistakes when you're looking at late alpha/early beta builds of a game.

Again, not trying to be rude, but you're making quite a lot of assumptions based off an early build of a game, full of stuff that's only barely presentable to the public at this point in time.

If I'm being brutally honest, Tales and Thrones aren't really the best examples of Telltale games with consistent plots.

Tales had some cut subplots, I remember it being confirmed on the AMA done here on the forums. Something about Factor, a turret and The Purple Skag was cut from the game (you can see that by checking the second episode's in-game preview). Then tgere's the fact that the Stranger's identity (one of the most important plot points) was clearly not defined from the start.

Thrones was doing fine... until The Ice Dragon happened. That episode took 4+ months to be released! There were most definitely rewrites, specifically on Mira's story.
Not only they disregarded the whole A Nest of Vipers plot, but they also made her plot utterly pointless by having that last choice inserted. I was expecting Mira to finally influence the main plot somehow in The Ice Dragon but instead, they isolated her plot from the rest. The inconsistency and lack of plot planning can also be seen by the amount of pointless choices we made through her entire plot, such as the final one in A Sword In The Darkness, all the choices that influenced her relationship with Margaery, the final choice in The Lost Lords that should've actually been huge, I could go on all day. Point is, Mira's plot accounted little to nothing to the main plot and to conclude it like that just shows that the writers just went 'Oh, let's have a King's Landing plot. It will be fun!' without actually tying it into the main narrative.
Then there's Gared. I got nothing to say but that it's obvious that the writers never actually had the slightest idea of what the North Grove is and just added it for the sake of it, just to have a mystery that even they didn't know the answer to.

These two games showed great improvement in the handling of the choices but not necessarily an improvement on the plot's consistency. Now, I dunno about you but I think that Telltale is showing improvement in that department in their latest title: Telltale's Batman. I remember reading somewhere pre-release that they already had 500 pages written for the series and, well, I think we can all see the result, a consistent story. And I truly hope they keep it up!

Michonne is indeed a good example of a consistent story, the only thing annoying me about its story is how some things were left out in the air. Rashid and Vanessa's whereabouts, what actually happened in the Mobjack and finally one of the most annoying things to me, Paige's never explored or clarified on-screen, relationship with the Fairbanks. But, hey, at least we know that they had those things hammered out even though they never specified them on screen (thanks to Emily the Designer that clarified some of our doubts!)

(Sorry about this, I know it's a bit out of place but I felt like ranting ^~^)

That was all for one episode, I presume. Telltale game scripts (for their choice based games) are said to be around the length of one to two typical movie scripts, due to all the permutations from player choices.

However, in regards to the rest of your examples, that is not necessarily from "rewrites" in the traditional sense, but rather, that was Telltale tying to use a heavily amped up version of live revisions/changes after they saw that it seemed to work for Season 1. However, I do agree with you that it needs to be used in better moderation - even though Season 1 had live revisions, they still had their end game planned from the start and never wavered from their larger goals.

Am I the only one who wants the credit song from S1 to comeback as the main credit song for S3? It always gave me goosebumps and felt intense.

  • I want the music piece "Alive Inside" from Season 1 to play when Clementine is introduced in Season 3. That would be so powerful and emotional.

  • "Alive Inside" should be the main theme song for S3 just like it was for S1, because it was so powerful. It always gave you that sense of hope every time it played. I also hope Alive inside plays every time there is bonding moment with Clementine and AJ.

Note: The LAST thing that I want to happen in Season 3 is Clem dying, but this is one way I can imagine such a scene happen.

Clem: "Javier....... take care of AJ...please......"

Javier: "No, Clementine, I can't do this without you! AJ needs you! I....need..you.."

Clem: "And I need you......to keep him safe...he doesn't have anybody else to look after him.....he need you, Javier."

    Javier: Clem, please!"

    Clem dies

    Javier: "CLEMENTINE!! NOO!!"

    Me: "CLEM!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!"

From what i understand the plot for A New Frontier will be a revenge one so there will need to be some sort of destination at some point and the mark on the walker and Javier seem like they will play a fairly important role in the game, we will also be able to learn more about Javier through flashbacks as Job mentioned at NYCC that we will see the start of the apocalypse through Javier's eyes at some point.

I do agree the eyes do look a bit strange in the video as they are really shiny but like i mentioned that was a really early build so things could change during production.
