Jane and Kenny... Could they have buried the hatchet?

  • Mhmm :) Personally, as people have suggested in the forums, the finale episode might've been pretty effective if more people had gotten carried over. Heck, maybe we wouldn't even really need all the multiple endings, and instead maybe pick between just a couple so that we could spend more time with them. Not everyone would live, obviously, but the collapse of the group could've been carried over into season 3 and had much more weight because of our emotional attachment to the characters.

Instead of rushing the conflict, maybe they could've added more hubs so that we got more information and backstory for where this rivalry was coming from. I enjoyed season 2 as well, but the more I look on here, the more plot holes I can see with it.

Totally, they're adults, and didn't hate each other. Just like you said, with Jane " sorry " and Kenny worried about she getting hurt. Eve

  • Yes, they tried to kill each other. However I don't think the original post has that scene in mind when he's asking that question.

  • poor Clementine. :( i don't want to assume based on your avatar, so i'll ask: did you leave with Jane? if so, how did you feel about returning to Howes? because i left with her, but felt guilty not going to Wellington just to see if Christa made it there.

I guess the next best thing would be for them to just cut ties and head out on their own again, with Clem caught in the middle of who to go with They both clearly care about the girl, and one side would definitely be crushed.

  • Kenny? Burying the hatchet with someone? BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Nah I'm just fuckin' with ya. I know Kenny was a good man deep down despite his obvious flaws. But burying the hatchet with Jane? I mean, my Lee was a major dickface to Katjaa and Duck throughout Season 1 (just as he was to nearly everyone else) but Kenny still thought of Lee fondly, so I guess he was able to forgive and forget.

But with Jane, I find it really hard to believe. While I don't agree with any of the hate she gets and I feel like she gets a bad rep, she still did fuck up in Kenny's eyes, and if I were in his position I'd be just as angry. But I'm not Kenny's position because I'm not too fucking stupid to look around enough through cars or anything to find the baby that was like 40 feet away, but that's another story.

Do I think Kenny could've buried the hatchet with Jane? Of course. But it'd take a long ass time and for Ken to get off his high horse, or at least for Clem to knock him the fuck off of it. As for the other way around, I suppose Jane could forgive him if he proved himself not to be a psychopath for a few seconds and if she acted a TINY bit more tolerable. Clem had to deal with his dumbass (and his shitbird son) for months and still cared about him. Jane literally only knew him for 5 days. She needs to be patient.

  • I get the feeling you don't like Kenny very much xD

Truth be told, I think Kenny might've respected Lee more than Jane. That was likely because they essentially started out in the apocalypse together and had to live out their days side by side for an extended period of time, but if I had to guess, I'd say Kenny respected Lee's ability to look after Clem and the fact that he took it upon himself to do so. When Jane comes around, Clem doesn't need nearly the same amount of protection, and Jane's more isolated personality probably didn't suit that well with the guy.

Yeah, they definitely needed more time in order to really understand one another. While I too definitely had my issues with Kenny, you knew deep down that he was a family man, and either Jane didn't realize that or just figured that Kenny was another Carver-type of person who was just going to get everyone killed. The problem is we can't really project any of this to her as Clem. If we had the option to explain what we went through and how he lost a piece of himself after his family died, like we sort of did with the cabin group in episode 2, then maybe she would've eased up on him a little in the truck.

For his part, I think Kenny tried to turn this into another Lilly-type of deal, and can even admit that it feels that way if you tell him that Jane's not easy to like. While Jane could've tried to stop bickering and egging him on, Kenny could've tried to keep the fight from escalating, too.

Hell, if they'd both just communicated a little more about their motivations and been a little more open-minded about where they wanted to go, the whole thing could've gone a little smoother.

It's not so much as I don't like Kenny as much as I'm disappointed in where his character went.

I agree with this, although I have to say at some points Kenny is the kind of man who would've gotten everyone killed. Not all the time, but definitely sometimes.

  • Yeah, same here. I found him overall to be a lot more tolerable in the first season, and maybe they should've ended his arc there by leaving the ending as kind of ambiguous.

He's definitely got his moments where you kinda just want to facepalm xD And even though I'll admit that I prefer Jane over him, she definitely had her share of mistakes, too. Not so much in getting people killed, but her early dismissal of Sarah kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.

I kind of like that neither of them are squeaky clean, though. It makes them seem more like flawed human beings that can screw up just like the rest of us :)

Great point. If my love for Silent Hill 2 has taught me anything, it's that I love me some flawed characters.

  • On my first run I stayed in Wellington, but every playthrough since then I've gone with Jane. At the time, I thought Howe's would've been the safer bet, and the thought of being able to try and rebuild a community ("maybe we can start something here, Jane") had me pretty excited, since we haven't really seen anything in the games where you could really do that sort of thing effectively. Plus, I figured we'd be able to get some more backstory on Jane, be able to learn more from her and try to hold onto the last people that were actually left.

I didn't expect it all to get taken away in less than five minutes, but yeah xD

  • I've got no proof, but I personally think she wasn't going to come back. I think Jane was going to be the inspiration for the alone ending, so that in a way the alone ending would be the Jane ending. Honestly I'm glad she came back because I don't like it when really cool characters are just one shot.

I can't remember exactly where I heard this from, but a lot of people seemed to think that Jane wasn't supposed to come back in the last epi

  • i agree that Howes was the safer bet. even if there were survivors who escaped the herd, i don't believe there was enough time to gather all the supplies. so we at least knew there would be something left to build on. and i didn't let the family in, but i spent a good 10 minutes debating it. we just lost nearly everyone and i needed a break from groups. i was hoping for more backstory on Jane, too. they gave us 400 days dlc, so i was hoping for Jane pre-Howes. or even dlc of Christa or Lilly.

but anyway. i took us away from your original topic. lol
