    wow almost 70% voted no

Well if the Guybrush tale would continue for more new games, he gotta have a boy at some point. He is married and it is very logical. As the topic starter said it will help the series to stay fresh.

and we had a monkey in EMI.. Timmy the monkey. I kinda hopped would appear in Tales but oh well..

I wish we had more outspoken people that said why they don't want him to have a son or daughter but I suppose that by making a poll you sacrifice some conversation. Yes, at last we will always wonder what happened to Timmy the monkey.

    Yeah.. why not?

As long as they DON'T do a "Monkey Island Junior" version!

By the way, in the poll results it's written who voted for what, why ask? (and if you've already voted, click on the numbers of people voted to view the results).

It's dvibe and PinkPig, btw :p

it would be just lazy wrighting to shove kids into the mix. i think i would be kool with guybrush maybe finding a baby or somthing like that. that way you could get the guybrush and baby humor in there without setting anything in stone. also i bring to light a quote from herman/marley 'and i want to start seeing some pirate great grandchildren' guybrush-' err we will see what we can do' jojo- and so the circle of like continues' :O

I don't think Guybrush NEEDS a child, but I'm not automatically against it. If there was a good story involving a child, then I'd be all for it, but if it was shoehorned in for no reason, then what'd be the point?

A child is just like any other piece of plot development...it can be handled well or poorly. However, the fact that it's often used poorly makes people paranoid about it, like it's a cheap cliche. That doesn't mean it's impossible for it to be used well, but it DOES mean that adding a child doesn't automatically "keep things fresh".

I don't know how many jokes you could make about babies. If Guybrush is going to find someone it would be cool if he got witty teenage sidekick, you know just like Batman has Robin or Anakin has Ahsoka.

Well to make it a little more interesting, not a whole lot if you add up the "yes options" atleast 49 people are open minded to some sort of child or adopted monkey children.

Erm....no. I just can't get my head around Guybrush with a kid. The guy can barely save himself let alone a kid. Maybe with an apprentice...but even then that sounds silly. I just can't see him with a kid.

    I think we've reached a verdict.. :p

Bah people can be so close minded some times that they don't know what they really want and never discover it. People are simply afraid of the change and ojectify the son/ daughter element to their assumptions and don't base their opinions on the accountable, the script and direction LA or TTG could and would possibly take. It's not like they aren't smart and don't have ears whatever most people hate about the idea would probably be considered early on.

I don't think there would be any benefits to giving him children at all (apart from child benefits).

I'm in the "Guybrush should never have gotten married camp" and think that children would REALLY put me off buying any future games. I don't think it would make the series 'fresh'; I think it would make it diluted and silly. And thats silly in a bad way. It'd be like Rocky 5 all over again!

Plus, you give him kids and they have to be in every future installment (unless prequels are introduced) and there would be no going back. Its a clear 'no' for me.

Children could just stay home, lol Elaine is the franchise but not in every adventure, her participation in adventure in minimal throughout 1-4. I thought Rocky 2,3, and 4 ALL OF WHICH HAD his child were good movies...just saying. It wasn't just the fifth movie...

Good God for them being married Mi-One and Two are the same sappy romance- fighting the love story, I'm so glad we weren't jerked around again with that in the 3rd game and 4th game.

LOL I like to see impossible odds through some times, it can be interesting.

Guybrush having kids? Once you get a kid you need to spend alot of time raising it. This means less running around having fun pirate puzzles and more time changing diapers. Now, you can run around and risk your life on adventures, but you can't drag your kids around with you. You need to protect them from harm or someone may stab them or something. And what if someday you or your wife get killed? Your kids would loose a parent and that would suck.

So if you want to be a good parent, you should hang the sword over the fireplace and focus on your kids. And I wouldn't mind if that happenss someday in the future, but when it does it should be the end of the series.

Maybe I don't fully understand what it means to be a parent yet. I thought that since Elaine is always sort of away from the heart of the adventure and since Herman by cannon took over governing that Elaine could do some mothering and keep the kids at home but you make really valid points from Guybrush's point of view. I guess Elaine's point of view is only functional to Guybrush's so it would raise too many awkward concerns and disturbances to the player to be caught up in these circle motions and family ties. (Knots)

I guess having a child is too serious of business for comedy?:(

I'm here with everyone else. Introducing kids would kill series for me. I would make Monkey Island looking like some tired American sitcom and jokes around children would make most of veteran MI players cringe.

These kind of ideas are funny though but I guess the wrong kind of funny...like watching fans jump out of a window funny...:(

I was going to say no, but then I saw "adopt a family of monkeys" and it hit me that it might be cool if he adopted a "Human" child. Or mentored another pirate wana-be. But is still a Guybrush-jerk to them.
