In Episode 1 Clementine can talk about other characters, and it's not just Lee.

It's really heartfelt and reminds me of the good times. It happens in the Card Game.

Marlon: So, Clem, you can't have been alone this entire time. Who used to take care of you?
Clem: I had people.
Marlon: Everyone had people at some point. We had adults here, now we don't.
Clem: Well, I had people, and now I dont.

  • Yeah, I meant to mention that when someone was complaining recently.

Just neglected to list any of the direct examples, buddy.

  • The only characters Clem mentions from past seasons that isnt Lilly or Lee are Kenny, Javi, and Gabe.

Kenny gets 2 lines, so does Javi, and Gabe gets about 3, then we forget they ever existed and never talk about them ever again.

  • Gabe gets about 3

    W-hu-wait, really?

Tbh I wish she could also talked about her parents too since I'm pretty sure she remembers them.

She indirectly mentions Dr. Lingard from ANF as well, during episode 3 ("I knew a doctor once, back when you were just a baby.")

And Chuck gets referenced by Lee during the dream. And since it's a dream, that technically means Clementine is the one referencing him when you really think about it ("To think that when I cut your hair, I was following the advice of an old drunk we'd just met.")

And an indirect mention of Mark at the card game in episode 1 ("I ate a guy's leg once")

And an indirect mention of Carver in ep 1 too ("I watched this guy get his face beat in with a crowbar")

She can also mention her dad in episode 3, if you pick the purple lighting for the party ("Well, purple was my dad's favorite color")

Most of them are extremely subtle and easy to miss though, so I'm expecting your response to this to be something along the lines of "They're so minor, they might as well not even be there to begin with"

All I gotta say about the Lingard one is no one is going to care about Clem talking about Lingard for one line.

For the rest its just falling into my same problem with most of these character call backs, its just 1 line, no elaboration (which obviously doesnt matter for things like Lee saying Chuck and Clem's dad likes purple.) Also my original post was referring to the card game lines but I probably should have been more specific. Its just pretty lame season 2 ending characters cant be mentioned and you cant mention past characters in times where theres pretty obvious similarities. My issue is that is a major part of Clem's life but it never gets an interesting call back or we even get to tell AJ about it, which would make a much better bonding scene for Clem and AJ. The only callbacks are during the card game which are made just to catch up new comers which is why Clem barely can talk about the past after that scene. Its nice for old players to mention it during the game, but thats where it ends. Theres a reason why only 3 mentions dont happen during the game and are incredibly minor or uninteresting after that. The interesting call backs happen during the game, the rest are just "lingard" "Lee indirectly mentions Chuck" and "Dad liked purple" (and Clem's dad was a non-character, so its not really anything interesting to learn about a character who we never meet or cared about)

  • As bad as I feel about Kenny for whoever went with him at the end of S2, I have to believe he'd be willing to take the hit to make sure uncle Javi and the definition of wasted space are never mentioned again. Thank you, Kenny. Off topic, but I'm not even sure why those two idiots are even worth mentioning, she's spent far more time with other people.

Ohh, she meant Lingard? I thought she was talking about Carlos, since that was when AJ was truly a baby. He was a toddler in A New Frontier.

  • Carlos was killed in the escape from Howe's hours at least half a day before AJ's birth.
That was the whole point of everyone scrambling for supplies and Kenny's 2 cents on delivering him.

Carlos wasn't even a doctor. Seriously the only way he could have gotten his doctor's degree is of Ebay or something.

I find it funny that people are claiming that the lack of call backs to previous characters is a flaw when a ton of people bitched about how Season 2 was “too reliant” on Season 1 and made to many callbacks. The amount of complete 180s this community does is insane, it’s like you guy don’t even know what you want. Their is plenty of subtle and not so subtle callbacks to previous characters and seasons, their is no way in hell they would have Clem bring up and describe every fucking character she’s met, it makes no sense. I’d say the constant referencing to Lee is a bit overdone though, but I understand why they do it.

Edit: I will say I am kinda disappointed that this season doesn’t bring up your season 2 endings. Like if you went with Kenny or Jane I feel like they should’ve been mentioned. Especially Kenny, considering how much he cared for AJ. Other then this I think they are doing fine.

A whole lotta wantin, contradiction, and even hypocrisy be goin on round here, yeah.
Kinda comes with the territory, to be fair.

  • S2 was the best season. Fight me.

  • I like all the subtle mentions of characters. I mean, do we really expect her to sit down and give a complete history of her life to the boarding school kids? I wouldn't mind if there were more, but there's only so much time when we have new characters to learn about. Would I play a 5 hour episode full of backstory and character references? Heck yeah. I'll just enjoy what I get though. I like that I can replay an episode and get little snippets that I didn't get before.

  • Yeah I feel dumb as shit now.
