WAit hold up, I'm willing to bet that Hugo, the perfume pirate from MI4 is gay. If that wasn't said yet then I'm frankly suprised.

You got me there. Ya know, I don't care either way, gay people have feelings too but why monkey island needs to go out of its way to have a gay character to make them get all free willy and jump out of their chairs in excitement is beyond me.

Well seeing how nothings ultimately stated one way or the other I'm certainly not some one who can take away anyone else's imagination. Maybe he is gay, hopefully they will leave it unsaid so that everyone can keep their own thoughts that ammuse them. Each to his or her own.

Is this real?? How can you tell?

NOTE: I never finished any of those games. Did I miss some details?

I was just making a joke, their is nothing sexual in either of those games, so we have no way of knowing the sexual orientation of either of them.

I suppose it could be true, but there is nothing to support or discredit it.

Why am I expected to be "comfortable" with people who like to put their junk in places it doesn't belong? And just because it makes me nauseous doesn't mean I'm full of fear or hate towards the people who practice it.

I'd prefer TTG to refrain from this idea.

Question: Has there ever been a gay main character in a video game? Why not?

Once again, not a main character, but April's landlady in The Longest Journey was a lesbian.
  • edited October 2009
Though it's never actually stated in-game, Juhani from Knights of the Old Republic was lesbian. Again not a main character though.

Only as much as we care about any new information about a character which, judging by other threads, is quite a lot.

Let's not forget Max of Sam and Max fame is quite probably gay.

He's "not interested in girls" but not men either it seems.

No, but am I right in thinking he's never proclaimed a lack of interest in men like he has done with women?

Places it doesn't belong? What, like the mouth? Like the hand? Like between breasts? The whole idea of it "not belonging" somewhere is just ridiculous.

Besides, I'm sure you don't complain about straight who enter their girlfriends from the rear door.

Anyway, we weren't suggesting they actually give the character tons of lines about back passages. It would actually be nice to show a gay relationship that doesn't rely on anal sex references, just as Guybrush doesn't spend every scene talking about how great Elaine's tits are.

Of course we don't want Monkey Island to turn into this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wO9SumrTs4

I think Max is supposed to be asexual, not gay. If he is gay, he doesn't seem to be aware of it.

It's a parody of 70s TV shows from That Mitchell and Webb Look where one of the characters doesn't understand innuendo.

Sam and Max don't strike as being the kind of characters I'd see with romantic lives. At all. I think there's a difference between seeing Old Sam and meeting his kids - or his wife. I don't think that would work at all.

It's kind of a hard line to tread, knowing what characters have much deeper feelings behind all the adventuring they do (Strong Bad no; Wallace yes, for example).
  • edited October 2009
As far as I can remember, Sam showed an interest in women exactly once, in the first comic.
Lots of howling and drinking... Orgiastic worship of heathen idols... Great looking chicks in diaphanous robes... Sounds kind of interesting... No, no, Sam. Bad. Very bad. Not interesting at all!

That's if you don't count him asking Sybil to find him a date.

What do you mean by deeper feelings? Strong Bad's world is extremely messed up, and it would be difficult to write anything serious about him, but he has a personality and emotions beyond yelling "holy crap!" and "Trogdor!". He got annoyed by Trogdor's popularity as an Internet meme, for example.

I think this was aimed at me? What I mean by "deeper feelings" are things like growing-up, or dealing with death or finding love, something like that. Sam and Max sort of have that, but it'd be a mistake to go the whole hog and have Max experimenting with his sexuality, for example. It almost seems, to me, that Sam and Max care about a few things, and care about them a lot; and everything else is just fluff. Strong Bad's the same way. The most important part of the day is, you know, beating a game - that's what I was like at 13.

Guybrush is a little different. It'd be a mistake to have him have kids (hello, Harry Potter), but the games have always had him in some sort of emotional conflict. It's nice to remember that he's only human, after all.

(Not that I want to see a game where he's old or something, Telltale. Or with kids.)

I don't think there's likely to be a flame-war. The majority of people here are having a reasonable discussion about it.

he is an anthropomorphed hyperkinetic rabbity thing he is probably only interested in other anthropomorphed hyperkinetic rabbity things... I imagine they are pretty rare.

Yeah... no thank you. That finally Harry Potter chapter genuinely ruined the series for me. It would have been a perfect end if it had stopped with the chapter before it. And those names too... jesus, I feel slightly ill just thinking about it all.

this whole thread is bizarre.... I imagine the TTG staff meetings are often taken up with people talking about the crazy random things we say here in these threads...
