Part 5: Rise of the Pirate God

Well, that's a title that basically screams for bringing another few familiar characters back into the MI world - the (vegetarian) cannibals (Lemonhead etc.).

Or what da ya think? ;)

I doubt it. Too late into the story, I think.

As much as I like the old characters, I'm much more interested in seeing new ones develop their own distinct and lovable personalities. DeSinge, Morgan, Van Winslow come to mind, as to the judge, McGillicutty, Anemone, Hemlock (how he takes care of his cat, it made me coo). These are all examples of characters I would like to see more of.
(Or would have, in two cases.)
I like how they turned out, mind, and I'm happy Telltale are finally figuring out how to make memorable supporting characters with so little development time, and that's why I'm so looking forward to whatever they do next.

:) Remember: you loved the vegeterian cannibals because they were original.

    Wally's the Pirate God.

    Maybe, but I doubt it...
I think that Morgan is gonna come and rescue Guybrush after being brought back to life by means of DeSinge's healingy stuff... I'm also pretty sure Guybrush will be the pirate god, but we'll have to wait and see.

I actually just want the next chapter focused solely on Guybrush, LeChuck, Elaine, Morgan, and the voodoo lady. A few more characters are fine, but I want as much time focused on the main characters as much as possible. That's what this whole series was building up to anyway. Throwing in old characters from the other games now would seem very forced.

Figures, they'd only have to modify his catchphrase a little:
"I am Guybrush Threepwood, mighty pirate god!"
    :D

Although...based on what I just saw at the end of part 4, I have my doubts about that. :)

    Still, I'm glad they
left a hint that Morgan may still be alive because I really think she's a valueable addition to the series (not just because she's sexy and as sharp / dangerous as her sword but also because we haven't seen much of her as a Guybrush-fan, yet and I feel that there's still a lot to learn about her).
    :)

So far I'm very happy about the way TTG handles Monkey Island. Keep it that way, guys (and girls)! Oh and don't forget to feed the monkeys that provide you with the energy you need. :D

And especially because of this phrase: "Is that a banana in your pocket, or are you just happy to see us?" :D

    Well...
now that Le Chuck has become a threat (again),
it's more than likely that the Voodoo Lady, LeChuck, Elaine and Guybrush will play a big role in the next part. However, I do hope, they will also keep Stan and Morgan
    "too-lovely-to-die"
LeFay. Just because Stan is a quite an interesting character. :)

Guybrush should never be a "Pirate God." He's just too much of an also-ran at heart... I hope it's LeChuck!

But she said that she would only play her part in much, much larger play...and that doesn't sound like a god, to me, plus if you consider that
LeCuck suck up all the pox that was set free
it's more likely that he is the one. ;)

TT wouldn't be foolish enough to make the Voodoo Lady the Pirate God.
Than it would be a ripoff of PotC3.

I hope they bring back Earl Boen as G.P. LeChuck, like in "Trial & Execution".

I think it's safe to assume that Earl Boen will do the next episode as well.

Makes you wonder why he didn't reprise his role in the Chapter 1 prologue...

The pirate god would have to be someone you'd never expect in a million years...

I think it's going to be Bosco.

I guess he wasn't availiable at the time. Or maybe TMI has sold a lot better than TTG expected, and the budget now allows for hireing Earl Boen?

It could be any number of things, but I'm sure he was hired by telltale to record more than 2-3 lines for one single episode.

she's not a pirate to start with

No 'Guybrush kicks two-faced pirate butt' this time folks.
    Ah the memories.

Guys, guys... This is all so obvious! the pirate god will be... Murray!
Come on, you know you want it :D

Also, Episode 5 will have to be insanely awesome to live up to Episode 4. Certainly my favorite of the series so far, grats Telltale! (Ep. 3 had some pretty great humour, but the plot/puzzles are just insanely good in Ep. 4 even relative to 1/2 IMO)

i dont know how to put spoilers but here's my idea of what's going to happen
Guybrush isnt dead yet and he will be healed by it's own hand and/or, the same gadget that heals de singe...
Also i think that Elaine might be the pirate god, the giveaway at the end just adds a feel to it
I am wondering if morgan is comming back

I always figured Guybrush would be the pirate god, right from when I first saw the episode titles on my download page.
Guybrush dies, only to rise again to save pirate-kind and oh my god Guybrush is the second coming of Jesus! Now THAT'S what I call a twist.

What if there is a "real" pirate god?

He/she/it? has decided that Lechucks powers has grown to strong and he needs to be stopped.
GT and Morgan strikes a deal with the Pirate Deity where they will be returned to life if they banish Lechuck....

    hmm
Would it make sense to introduce a GOD this late in the story?
There has been no mention of a deity in this piratey universe as I know....

That'd be literal Deus Ex Machina

Yes it would, but since they are rumoured to go "the land of the dead" it is not THAT far fetched...

Besides if it works for Shakespeare and Stephen King (among others) ......

Not that I am a fan of such storytelling techniques.
I guess we'll see in a months time...

I imagine there may be a few people in the land of the undead that would like to have a word with Guybrush.
  • edited November 2009
Maybe the Pirate-God thing is like the Captain-of-the-Narwhal thing i.e. a king-of-the-hill contest. LeChuck was killed but then he defeated the Pirate God and now he's able to cheat death game after game because he's the Pirate God. And now Guybrush knows how to defeat him once and for all?

But then... that would really limit future series....
  • edited November 2009
Or he has to appease the pirate god so he can go back to the land of the living.

    You know, if Guybrush
meets Morgan on the other side, who is to say he won't meet De Singe and be faced with a maddened ghost bent on revenge. Maybe we haven't seen the last of De Singe either.

Well, I guess that is possible...
Or De Singe will work for Lechuck since he wants 'immortality!!!!'
well... something in the lines of that. LOL ^_^ But yeah, De Singe coming back would be interesting.

Guybrush is going to team up, or get help from, Manny.

    Too far?

maybe he will get help from the rest of Murray's body
