I wouldn't rule out the possibility, but I also can't imagine them doing that. The whole series is about Guybrush vs. LeChuck. You can't break that cycle without breaking the series.
why not?
there are many things to do in the caribbean and many lesser bad guys which can develop.
but i agree, it is satisfying to find out at every end of a game, that lechuck was behind it all and you can kill him once again…

That's like going on a Zelda forum and saying "Go ahead, permanently off Ganon. Let's give Vaati a chance to shine." Link and Ganon, Guybrush and LeChuck, they're fated enemies, destined to clash time and again. Mess with that and...well...
And I bet you thought Escape from Monkey Island was bad. Monkey Island's black sheep is nothing compared to Zelda's.
Yes, I am well aware that the image of CD-i Link has absolutely nothing to do with the presence or absence of Ganon in those games, I just couldn't help it. Besides, a screenshot of Four Swords or The Minish Cap just doesn't have the same effect.
Are you referring to sinking the Mad Monkey in the first game? Because both the ending (if you sink it, otherwise you see Herman Toothrot) and the fourth game show that all three survived that but were marooned on Monkey Island.
I know there are 2 endings but I thught there was a reference in CMI that suggested it sank.

I don't remember a reference in Curse, but in Escape, Guybrush's original crew complains a lot about him stranding them on Monkey Island, indicating that the boat sank, but they still all survived.
Also, I don't know what I was thinking, but the boat in Secret was the Sea Monkey.
i don't know if this belongs here but i just noticed that the name of the "pirate god" mentioned by the voodoo lady is NOR TREBLIG. ron gilbert spelled backwards.
Link and Ganon, Guybrush and LeChuck, they're fated enemies, destined to clash time and again. Mess with that and...well...
That just reminded me of a line from The Dark Knight that goes something like "this is what happens when an unstoppable force collides with an immovable object."
The never-ending struggle is what makes it so entertaining...No more conflict, no more fun.
Assuming that there will be a second ToMI, neither LeChuck nor Guybrush can become the Pirate God because then there will be no more Guybrush vs LeChuck. Hence, I think it will be someone else, but that someone else can do nothing against the Pox controlling LeChuck despite being a god, and the saga continues.
lol, sex would be the next logical step after introducing death in a monkey island game
(ok, i forgot telltale is american and american politicians let watch their 10-year-olds bloody gore but NEVER a nipple. what a country! i hate this catholic double standards)

I see nipples all the time and American porn makes most other countries look like saints. Death is a natural part of life, cheating on your wife, not so much...I wouldn't call it a double standard, just a standard for descent clean families. Monkey Island is a family game not a porno or Rated R movie.
Guybrush: You've been lying to me about LeChuck all these years!
Voodoo Lady: My ways are my own, Guybrush Threepwood, but rest assured, I have never lied to you.
Guybrush: You're lying right now! All this time I thought LeChuck was an inhuman monster... well, actually he was an inhuman monster, but only because you MADE him this way!
Voodoo Lady: Did I? Or was I merely playing my role in a much larger play?
Guybrush: Stop trying to confuse me! We're tired of being puppets in your chess game!
Voodoo Lady: This is no game, Threepwood!
I have the feeling there is a much higher power than the Voodoo Lady who is controlling all the events. The diary is merely a copy of the Pirate God's plans and the Voodoo Lady was instructed to bring these events in play.
I don't think the Pirate God is someone we've met before. None of the other characters are mysterious enough if you ask me.

Catholic? I hate the WASP/Puritan double-standards!
So, put into context nicely by Terr002, it's suddenly struck me how obvious it was from the outset that TTG were setting up for a cliffhanger of some kind... hmm.

How do you figure sex equals cheating on your wife? It's absolutely possible to turn your argument on it's head and say "Procreating is a natural part of life, killing random strangers, not so much."

…while american politicians tell how bad porn is for your morality. if that aren’t double standards…
and, btw., polygamic relationships are the much older and more common form of human social life. monogamy is a rather new development.
back to MI, i don’t think guybrush and morgan will share much more than a kiss. (which is normal for today’s moral standards, but not for the ones of the century the game is playing in: aristocratics made marriages of convenience back then and pirates fucked everything that walked and had enough pounds of makeup in the face)
It depends what end of the pirate spectrum you are. It ranges from a relatively honourable, almost privateer type (Guybrush Threepwood) to so powerful he can break even the informal rules of pirates and get away with it (LeChuck).
There is a fair range between the two though. Most pirates are somewhere between. And personal honour is probably why Morgan doesn't get what she half-wants from Guybrush Threepwood Mighty Pirate TM
It is obvious what will happen..
Guybrush will come to the land of the dead, which lies somewhere on Monkey Island, where he needs to escape from..
Hint: Every MI game's last chapter happens on Monkey Island
About the pirate god..
Im pretty sure its LeChuck. It all was his plan from the start to absorb all of the pox to become very mighty.

MI4 last chapter was on meelee with the robot and staue XP

Though, technically, didn't he just absorb the pox that set free from him anyway? So isn't he just as powerful as he was in the very start of the first episode?
MI4 last chapter was on meelee with the robot and staue XP
So was MI1, by the way. Only no robots.
And MI2, (considering CoMI retcon), had only the last cutscene on Monkey Island.
So, really, only CoMI had it's last chapters taking place on Monkey Island.
MI4 last chapter was on meelee with the robot and staue XP
Yes but MI4 destroyed the Monkey Island story line and therefore dosn't exist in my eyes... *closes eyes and sticks fingers in ears* La la la I can't hear you!
Hm, this is a bit fat-fetched, but I think Guybrush will be brought back to life due to the voodoo magic of the Pyrite Parrot (who is now "scattered throughout the planet") Possibly being the pirate god himself? Dunno. If this is true, I don't think Morgan's dead. We'll just have to see.

I second that, especially the spoiler part.
I was under the impression that when someone was infected with the pox it grew within them, so therefore when Lechuck got it back, he got a lot more voodoo than he let out in the first place.

Monkey Island 2 didn't! That game also didn't have insult swordfighting or crew gathering. Sorta kinda like how Empire Strikes Back didn't have a Death Star but was still plenty of Star Wars.

Well, as a stand-alone game it didn't, but as part of the larger series, the third game retconned the ending of MI2 to take place on Monkey Island.

That analogy would worked better if the series esd called Death Star but good point!

Wait, does that mean that RON Gilbert has full control the next chapter!?

Now I understand the reason why DeSinge wants to cut any pirate's limb he's able to get to.

Always one of the best responses in an argument XD
Like 9 years?
Oh, you mean the in-game real world...
