I don’t buy the idea that the inaccessible red dot, was placed there for aesthetic reasons. I think that it was just a puzzle and the area they pulled out because of a tight deadline, by TTG.

I was waiting for the boat ride pass through the water crossroads and then use the anchor to stop it there.....
    What do you think?

Yep. same thoughts… like that puzzle in Grim Fandango, where you have to get into a hidden floor with the elevator.

I don't deny that Galeb is Legba, or at least the Monkey Island version of the figure. That would be stupid. I'm just saying it seems like, while it's possible, saying that Galeb IS "Nor Teblig, Keeper of the Crossroads" is a bit of a jump. Not too much of one, obviously, but a bit of one.

I realize I'm a bit late on the whole Galeb/Legba/Nor Treblig/Ron Gilbert discussion, but being the lifeless geek that I am, I pulled up the anagram server again and:

    A Ron Gilbert
Intro[ducing]...Galeb R. [(is Galeb given a proper last name? ...this is just an anagram so it might be thrown out if he has one) (note the same initials as Ron too, just reversed)]
Galeb, I [a]r[e (am)] torn...[are you really Nor Treblig?]
[E]r...[a]r[e (is)] Galeb not it [(Nor Treblig)]?
Galeb: it [(he) a]r[e (is)] Ron/Nor.

For those who didn't understand, I inserted clarifications and such in the brackets above...here's the literal anagrams I used:

    Intro Galeb R
    Galeb I R Torn
    R R Galeb Not It
    Galeb It R Ron

    I'm definitely reading too much into this...but I think it's fun. :D

I agree. There's a lot of unused stuff in the final chapter that don't strike me as being appropriate for deliberate red herrings

I put the red dot there. I wanted there to be a place you couldn't go, to keep people wondering... and to screw with them. Is that where the epilogue takes place? Is that where those tunnels lead as you approach the center of the crossroads?

    Mission acomplished then. :D

And my guess?, Yes, that's where the epilogue takes place. Hope so... hiding right next to Guybrush? That Voodo Lady is devious... ;)

Damn, I should keep my mouth shut when I wonder around…

Poor Majus, you'll never be able to wonder in public again.

Ah it’s okay, it shouldn’t be that difficult. The room-puzzle is solved, no strange riddles around. Everything is done, Monkey Island is complete, and I feel fine.
Now I really looking forward to the new Sam&Max, it’s gonna be so beautiful, have you seen the artwork? I wonder what.. AH GAWD DAMMNIT!!

Cue "I wonder what happens when you go to where that red dot that you can't click on the map is..." in 3... 2... 1... pretty please? :D

EDIT: Egads, I really should read the whole thread before posting... :p

Remember, Galeb also went by the name Squinky (according to the Treasure Hunter guy) and also calls himself Gabel, Vickie & Nor Treblig if you ask him what his name was enough times (after you talk w/ the TH guy about Galeb).

I don't think Galeb is an another anagram for Ron Gilbert. Galeb (or Nor Treblig) just happens to lie a lot & that's all there is too it.

I don't think it is either, but that's why I was very up front in saying that I'm reading too much into things. I just thought there were some cool possibilities available.

Am I the only one who never doubted it was just a red traffic light placed there as a typical MI anachronistic visual gag? Seeing as, you know, it looks exactly like a red traffic light?

Now, I have a question. If Jacques the monkey was on Flotsam when Guybrush and LeChuck were at the Rock of Gelato, and LeChuck had captured all of the monkeys of Montevideo and had them on his ship for hypnotizing, how is it that Jacques is now one of the hypnotized monkeys opening rifts?

I assumed Jacques got to Flotsam pretty much the same way Guybrush did.

And of course he doesn't have the ring. He had to place it in the Crossroads. The ring was sacrificed to send Guybrush's spirit back to his body.

No, Guybrush gives the ring back to Elaine at the end. It's _his_ ring that he doesn't have - not surprising if it's still on his other hand; you wouldn't expect it to grow back by magic also, would you?

And so, the vicious, downward spiral begins anew ... but you know, Majus, admitting that you have a problem is the first step.

What bothers me about this argument is that Jacques looks like DeSinge has been experimenting on him for quite some time, well before the Rock of Gelato incident.

I wonder what happens in season two...
I want to play as Elaine as she fights the ghost pirate hunter LeFlay, who continually resurects and kidnaps her husband because she doesn't get that he's just not that into her

    1. How and Why din Guybrush get his hand back (notice the missing ring)

    2. Why does Guybrush's Poxed hand STILL exists and has been taken by the Voodoo Lady? (you can notice that on her table in the last cutscene)

Debate away, I'll join later on :)

I consider this to be a last-minute necessary design decision. Given the relatively extensive introduction of the Vacaylians' ability to attach and re-attach limbs, it becomes obvious that during the concept stages, Guybrush was supposed to get his original hand back that way, and not by "magic".

However, as all those loose story ends were dangling in the air by season's end, a game designer has to edit a little, or he ends up with 14 ending cutscenes which possibly strain the nerves of less patient players.

Just one more strange question: If Morgan is a ghost, how can she carry the jar??

Yes, I noticed that as well. The voodoo lady could somehow managed to give her that power. And it is certainly not unheard of: LeChuck was able to punch Guybrush (let alone battle him as Fester Shinetop). Still, I was a little disappointed that Guybrush couldn't learn the skill. A little reference to the "Ghost" movie and, with it, a nod to the late Patrick Swayze, would have been nice. ;)

So, it might actually be a design mistake, but one that could easily be explained. Like the H in Esponja. :D

Ohhhh, Majus, don't you say bad things like that!!

(And, of course, you won't get away without animating "I wonder what happens in Sam & Max 2010 aka Season 3 Episode one: The moustache curse of the psychic space pharaoh" - or whatever that first episode is named...)

The first episode is called: The illuminating secret of mustache max and his friend who fly's a rocket every morning and loves pancakes with strawberry jam... Duh!

Here's another question. Was I the only one who saw the parallels between Elaine in RotPG and Ophelia from Brütal Legend? The whole love interest who turns evil and dons a goth outfit thing? Of course that's not a wholly uncommon theme, and actually it was mostly the outfit, but seeing how I just finished Brütal Legend two weeks or so before playing RotPG, is struck me as similar.

One thing that bugged me - why does Guybrush sink and swim when diving to the mating grounds? If he is a ghost surely he shouldn't have any concept of gravity...? Also did anyone try to hang around for 10mins to see if he has to go back up?
