  • Actually, I'm starting to wish the colours were a little more vibrant now. Otherwise it's quite nice. I like the new pose too :).

    Agree with this I do.

I find it funny that they're releasing the original screenshot at the same time, as to show us how much of an upgrade it is - while ironically I think it looks vice versa a lot of times. :D
  • edited April 2010
This is not good, the colors look too washed out and pale in the supposed upgraded version.

That looks great. That's how they should do it. They are changing the art style with messing up with the colors.
  • edited April 2010
Eh. It's not 100% perfect, but I think it looks really nice all the same. :)
  • edited April 2010
lol its only in the game for 5 seconds (unless you cant find the parrot food)
  • edited April 2010
Yeah, imo, these remakes aren't necessarily for the old fans anyway, since they usually are perfectly happy with playing the originals. Thankfully, we have the option of speech plus old graphics. The "upgrade" is probably more for those who find it hard to get into old games with really low resolution, and needs their games in HD.

I'm just happy we have an alternative. I've played the originals so many times now, it's nice with a little change every now and then.

Exactly. Every person I've shown the new graphics to said, "It looks great." Every single one. None of these people were Monkey Island fans. One person mentioned that the colors in one scene of the classic version were superior, but that's it.

Old version's a button push away.

Please tell me you aren't serious.

I dunno. I can see the argument, even if in this case I'd say it's probably an overreaction.

Eeeh, not sure I'm as big a fan of this screen. The atmosphere feels off. I don't know why, I can't quite place it.
  • edited April 2010
they are starting to look rushed.. like the last one..

Ultimate nitpick: They've removed the 'XXX' from one of the crates !

What, he threw out all his porn?

This is a reply to the last few comments (including mine).

The game isn't due out until the latter part of the year, these could yet be unfinished products, perhaps they'll be touched up a bit before the release...

Haha! I thought someone might make this joke.

Its not coming in the latter part of the year... its this summer... as in 1-3 months from now. Do not hope that these will be touched up either...

Latter as in the second half of the year, but still, it's coming out earlier than I originally thought. Maybe they are final versions. Oh well, no problem with me, I personally have no problem with the art, but then again I'm not an artist like many of the people on these forums.

    Reference to this?

Maybe the SE version looks too grey. The ship in the original version always seemed cheerful to me, and in the SE version it looks a bit more colourless, taking away from the atmosphere.

One thing they did improve in the SE version is Captain Dread's posture. He seems to be leaning on the steering wheel much more now.
  • edited April 2010
The original had over-saturated sugar-coated colors. It conflicts with the dark nature of the story. You can always choose to play with the Disney Princess colors when the game comes out.
  • edited April 2010
Is it just me or does it look too light outside in that latest screenshot? It almost looks like daylight through the windows and door behind Guybrush, whereas we know that (for some reason) it's always dark on Scabb Island.
  • edited April 2010
seriously though, this Dread's scene is best one yet

it could use a little more brown variaton for woods and planks but the scene is rather nice - i especially like the open ocean and skies in the background and the claws in the cabin
    Reference to this?

    Of course :p
  • edited April 2010
Am I right in saying that Dread's dreadlocks are on the wrong side of the wheel in the new version?
  • edited April 2010
yes, beside that and no xxx's there is also no curtain on the left, there is no inscription on the sack behind Dread and the boxes beneath it are bigger

I know... first they all complain ToMI (or any MI) are "dark" enough, and it should all be gloomy and stuff, and now they complain the colors aren't bright enough in LCR itself...

Make up your mind LCR fanboys! :p

Not the wrong side, just the opposite side.
  • edited April 2010
Think it looks better that way, really. It's more natural to avoid getting your hair caught in stuff, at least for me.

Guybrush looks like an underwear model.
