Ma...ri...ACHI! Ai, ey, ey, ey!
I only said I thought it was. Which is weird. I don't know why but when I sing it to myself I add that word in. Even know I just can't sing it without "really", it feels like a word is missing.
Oh well.
Well, Telltale, you have the distinct honor of making the first game that I've EVER preordered. I think you deserve some congratulations (or maybe even a cookie).
- It's much harder to match colours when it's not white. Seriously. I only used yarn I already had laying around so the colours wouldn't be my first choice if I was making these plushes more "seriously" rather than for fun.
- It takes much longer to make Sam than Max. You'll have guessed that it's due to his clothes. That's why I'm posting a work in progress to keep you informed, but it's, well, in progress. Far from done, and all.
Okay, so as you can see he's missing his jacket, hat, tie, arms and ears. I'm working on the jacket right now. I debated whether I'd make it removable but that's much more work (3 pieces to knit instead of just one, having to make holes for the arms which means calculated where they'd be and how big they'd be, etc). It's not like Sam removes his jacket often anyways.
For his hat I'm thinking of knitting a top hat (because it's easier) than shape it like his hat and sew that in place. Creating a pattern for knitting his hat as is is giving me nightmares.
I haven't made his ears yet because I'd like to first work on his hat, which will help me position the ears better. And I haven't done the arms because I'm putting them over the jacket (I'll knit the sleeves after I'm done with the arms, obviously, since they need to be the right size).
Hmm, let's seen, what else... Oh, yeah, I decided to knit his clothes separately and not as part of him (that is, changing colours to match the clothes, etc) so that it would look more 3D. This way it looks more like he's wearing them. I don't know if I'll do that with every character that wears clothes (since it's a lot more work), but since Sam is supposed to be wearing them in a loose way it seemed more appropriate.
Also, the little bit of white you can see on his muzzle is stuffing that appears through stitches due to the flash. You can't actually see it on the doll itself, but I'll fix that so it doesn't appear in future pictures.
Hope you like it so far!
(Also, he's not to scale compared to Max. They're both the same size. Actually, Max is taller due to his ears. I've decided to make all characters with the same basic pattern so they should all be around the same size regardless of their actual size.)
I doubt I could get my mother to pre-order a video game. But if she did, rest assured, she would be impressed with the time and effort you're putting into it, even if she didn't understand why a dog and lagamorph require heavy artillery (oh that should be your 3rd set!)
Sorry I just find the entire project very amusing. I can't wait to see the two together.
I was wondering when and if a third season of Sam and Max would be made, and its a pleasure to pre-order to support all the fine folks at telltale in any case.
Hope this is as interesting to the staff as it is interesting to us "consumers"!
And thanks to Telltale Games for rekindling my love for games, I was a semi-retired gamer since I switched to Mac a few years ago... (yes I know I had options, but frankly, I wasn't interested).
But hey! In less than a month I've bought Tales of Monkey Island (I'm starting chapter 5) and now the preorder for Sam & Max.
Sam & Max, Full Throttle, The Dig and all those great Lucasarts games are part of my 90's memories, and I hope Telltale releases the other Sam & Max seasons anytime soon!
Woah! You can't just replace a fedora with a top hat! Detectives don't wear top hats! Ever!
He's not going to wear a top hat! I'm knitting it top-hat style then shaping it. Well, I did, since he's wearing the hat now. It's not a top hat, don't worry.
What I mean is that to shape something, I can either knit it in the right shape directly, as I did for all of Max - then I need to know when to increase and decrease (add or remove stitches) so that when I put it together it's the right shape.
I've never made something like Sam's hat and honestly don't think I could knit it the right way. So I do the second option: I knit it straight, then close it, stuff it, and sew it the way I want it to look to bend it and stuff. I can also stuff some parts more than others to influence the shape. You can't get just any shape that way, I couldn't have knit a huge white square and turned it into Max, but if you're close enough to the shape you want that's possible.
I'll take pictures a bit later and point to the part I sewed so you understand what I mean.
EDIT: here you go
1) I stitched the top (see top arrow) into Sam's head to create a concave shape.
2) I stitched the front (see right arrow) into the back to create... Another concave shape I guess, or rather one at the front and one at the back.
3) I put on a hat band that was tighter than the hat (see left arrow), causing the upper part of the hat to bulge.

Do you understand better?
So, what you're telling me is, you used WITCHCRAFT to turn a TOP HAT into a FEDORA?
Here, I fixed it.
WITCH!
 I would not answer that.
That Sam looks rather dashing!
watt?
