A boat is sinking in the middle of the sea, oh noez!

The sea is infested with sharks and the crew cannot swim and so on and so forth. Basically if they touch the water they're dead :p They have one lifeboat that can hold 5 people. It is a 4 minute round trip to the nearest island. The crew is made up of 15 people and the boat will have sunk in 10 minutes.

    How many survive?

    13. 5+4+4 (you need one person to get the lifeboat back every time).

  • edited June 2010

you know, the legend says that they have 100 gold discs that take 1 minute to move each, and when they finish it makes the end of the world.
  • edited June 2010
yea I heard that, something about a temple with a bunch of monks moving it, going by the math and how long the earth has been around with humans, it looks like the world has a loooong time left
  • edited June 2010
Okay, I'm trying one... Just made it up so not sure if there are other possible answers.

Up or down, it's all the same to me. What verb am I?
  • edited June 2010
    Chopping?
  • edited June 2010
    Partying.
  • edited June 2010
Come to think of it, "cutting" could work at least as well.
  • edited June 2010
I think Didero didn't get what I was going for (the riddle is that "to ____ up" and "to ____ down" mean the same thing. And to my knowledge neither "to party up" nor "to party down" exist).

Harald, you're more on the right track, but that's not the verb I had in mind.

Then clearly you haven't been to a videogame music concert ;)

    Me neither >_>

or every riddle book known to man?

Yeah, I knew the "answer" too, but challenged myself to think of something else that works, and so put 'insanity tablets' instead. With older, more well known riddles, it is more fun to try and think of another correct non-answer response.

As for the up=down thing, I have a couple of ideas.
I reckon the answer is probably "sit"
But also in sort of... funky child disco songs, the pseudorapper person often uses "GET UP!" and "GET DOWN!" as the same.

If the answer is sit, then try this:

    second ______ = third ________

    what is the blank?
  • edited June 2010
The answer isn't "sit" (feel free to answer his question anyways) but I feel there are more verbs that apply than I thought haha. So I'll give a hint, in spoilers for those who don't want it.

The hint is the number of letters in the verb:
    the verb has 4 letters
