Because they ARE indie. As in, independent, as in, not bound by a publisher, as in, mostly self-funded.

The terrible irony being that independent developers are pretty much dependent on practically everything. :p

Just curious, does COMI run perfectly on Scummvm, just wondering coz I dont use Scummvm to play it on my current computer, but I may have to when I get my new computer?

According to ScummVM, the game is "90% compatible". Some other people who actually enjoy the game may have more details about anything that might not run perfectly, but it's playable and can be completed in ScummVM.

The only problem I had when not using scummvm was getting audio loops which was fixed by setting the COMI.exe file to windows 95 compatibility mode.

But with scummvm there is no reason to set anything to compatibility mode right?
  • edited December 2010
I've never noticed any issues with it at all in ScummVM.

Also, YES DASHING, WE GET IT.

    @Guru

You dont need to set anything to compatibility mode do you?

Just saying, there are probably people who play the game a good deal more often than I do, and there are probably people who remember the fine details a great deal better than I do.

I've never had any problems running COMI on ScummVM, IIRC I didn't have to do anything with compatibility mode. As long as you can run ScummVM itself without any problems, you should be fine.

Weird, that pain in my jaw disappeared for the most part after I took a bath.

    @ Jen

thanks, just wondering when merging the resource folders from Disc 1 and Disc 2, there are some files that are the same across the 2 folders. I can just tell it to not bother copying those files (since I have them already) right?
  • edited December 2010
I don't think I merged the folders, I installed COMI then I went into ScummVM, clicked 'Add Game' then selected the main COMI folder and clicked 'Choose'. Let me find my copy and I'll see if that still works for me. What OS are you using?

Is being a Russophile worse than being a weeboo? I say that it is several orders of magnitude better, but that's just me.

Well, it appears that my laptop CD drive violently objects to the Curse CDs, but it's like this with every game that's more than 5 years old. I'm making images of the discs with DAEMON Tools and then I'm going to try installing with Quick and Easy Software's CMI Setup program (it worked for Escape!) and running it through ScummVM. It's been too long since I played through Curse anyway...
  • edited December 2010
You shouldnt need to install the game, just copy RESOURCE folder, COMI.LA0, COMI.LA1, COMI.LA2 off the 2 discs onto your computer, thats all you need for it to run through scummvm
  • edited December 2010
LOL, too late, I just installed it with the Quick and Easy setup. But it's running fine through ScummVM, unfortunately now I really need to get to bed...

    Thanks for your help.

I think there are just more weeaboos, and the really obnoxious ones are super vocal. Just out of curiousity, would I be considered a weeaboo? I've heard people call me that and others saying no. Where does one draw the line?

That reminds me. I need to start studying Japanese again this week. If I slack off I'll never get to go live in Japan someday.

Dehydration sucks, and I can never seem to drink enough water in a day no matter how much I try, so it's a frequent problem.

One generally shouldn't be pass-out exhausted after only 14 hours awake, right?

Also, I've been thinking: If I knew this thread would endure for this long, I would've tried much harder to think of a better name for it.

    The undead thread?
In another forum I writes in, like this worthless knowing, they close the thread after 2,000 posts and then starts a new wk-thread part 8 and so on.

I'm still in London! After 16 hours at Heathrow I went back to my apartment for a hot shower, PJs, tea and crumpets. Now wondering what I should do with my Sunday, and when I'll be able to fly. The airport is pretty much closed today.

I kinda wish now that I hadn't tossed out all the perishable food. :p

You should watch all the BttF movies.

    I'm with you buddy.

Also- three more days until winter break begins! Woohoo! On my first day of winter break I'll even get the first episode of BttF. ^_^

That's not a bad idea, but I don't have them! Terrible oversight on my part.

    Got a couple of options:

    1. Go see "It's a Wonderful Life" at a nearby cinema that has snuggly armchairs (and blankets!) instead of the usual theatre seats. They're serving mulled wine and mince pies... I'm almost but not quite sick of mince pies.

    2. Go with the crazy friend who decided to HIRE A CAR today and drive out to the country on snowy roads with the possibility of not being able to get back. I'm sure it would be fun either way, but perhaps I've had enough stranding for one weekend. :p

I think the difference is that a weeaboo doesn't actually know the language, listens to J-pop because it's Japanese, and watches subtitled anime to hear the original voices

Perhaps I think this because I don't want to be a weeaboo.

I watched subtitled BLEACH for a while because it hadn't been dubbed yet, now I'm up to a filler season that the Dub is at too, which I wan't to skip because the heroes were inexplicably back in the world of the living. Now I sometimes watch some of Yu-Gi-Oh season 0 because it will never be dubbed.

Actually, Subtitled anime is what finally convinced me to learn the language. Or was that subtitled UltrasevenX? I don't remember now, but I loves me some Ultra now.

I listen to Hana by Orange Range regularly, not because it's Japanese, but because it sounded beautiful when I first heard it, and now that I've looked up what it means it seems that even more so.

Long story short (Too late.), Don't call me a weeaboo.

    Hey, what's a weeaboo?

    *Googles it*

    Aaaaaauuuuughh!!!

Also, I just played I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream.

Well, okay, I played the first part.

Well, okay, I just watched a Let's Play.

Well, okay, I just skimmed the Let's Play.

Anyway, I think it's one of the scariest games I've ever seen, though I don't feel like getting it.

Wait... does this mean you celebrate Christmas in summer? What do you use on your Christmas cards? Since it's winter over here it's snowmen on our cards, so does that mean that since it's summer with you, you have people in bikini's for cards?

 I wonder why I've never thought about this before. I also wonder why I'm thinking about it now.

    Oh oh! This one!

...watching a mid-40s film is my idea of an exciting eventing. I'm a hoot at parties.

Pretty much almost packed here, took some time out to go take pictures of festive nighttime York and just got back. I don't think I'll ever get sick of walking around York, there's just something really pleasant about wandering the streets of the walled city. Well, except during the day on weekends when tourists are everywhere and remind me why I'm the misanthrope I am.

Oh shi. Have pre-ordered BTTF on October 26, but probably can't play it until December 29. I'm an absolute X-mas holiday person, but the away time from my PC just doesn't bode well in that case. *shudder*
