Actually, I think the better question is why the hell does anyone care about post counts?

You've got to have a high post count because you get money for each post in the afterlife. No kidding.

Good job, mods. This topic needed to go one way or another.

Ah, good, this is nice. This is where this thread belongs; it was basically just a muck-around thread anyway. However, it did serve as a nice little dumping ground for useless, post-count-boosting posts, so I'm just hoping that those sorts of post don't become more common in actual threads that have a point to them.

I'm in France. The trip was long, tiring and I got sick.

(I didn't just arrived, I arrived about 12 hours ago).

So I went to the bank to get my new bank card or take out money. I was told I can't get a new bank card by showing up, I need to call them and they'll ship it. But they'll ship it to the address they have on file, which is from 2009. So I need to change my address if I want it to be shipped somewhere, but to change my address I need to provide 2 proofs of living, that is bills at my name and address.
Which of course I don't have. So that's a bit annoying.

In other news, I wasn't allowed to take out money either even with two pieces of ID, as I needed to provide my bank card. yay!

Then I got an email from Bank of America saying that they blocked my card because there had been suspicious activity (I had told them when I opened the account that I,d be back in France now!)
I needed to be online and call at the same time. I had been using phonebooths but couldn't do that and be online at the same time, plus I didn't have a bank card I could use to place a call with.

Oh, and did I mention I brought no cash because I thought it would be silly to get US cash only to have to change it and pay a fee?

So yeah, I was worried for a bit. Fortunately I borrowed Nas's cell (Nas is the friend I'm staying with. 100 square feet by the way. Small for two people) and called Bank of America, and they re-activated my card, wrote on my file that I'm in France, and told me which bank is their partner so I can withdraw cash at their ATMs for no fee.

So I have access to money. I also can withdraw money from my French account if I provide a RIB (document with my account information) instead of my bank card, and fortunately that can be downloaded (some banks, you need to order it and they mail it to you, which wouldn't work for me).
Nas doesn't have a printer because she doesn't have much room for one, so I put it on a flashdrive and I'll go print it somewhere. Then I'll withdraw some money to live on until I can get my French card again.

I'm starting to remember how frustrating it is to try doing anything official at all in France. Wait until I have to deal with getting my social security card back so I can work >.>

I also approve of the thread being moved to games. It might sound counter-intuitive, but I think it might cause it to slow down and become interesting again.

EDIT: case in point: I can't remember ever having to edit a post in this thread before to avoid double posting.

I went to buy some groceries, and I wanted to share my impressions. First of all, it's weird seeing French bottles, which are higher and less wide than the North American counterparts. But the most jarring was the portion sizes. After seeing 12-egg packs and 1 gallon bottles of milk for so long, it was weird seeing the 4-egg packs and 1/4L bottles of milk. Very useful though when you live in small places. Nas's fridge is about the size of two microwaves on top on each other.

Also, it was pretty sweet seeing familiar brands again. I kept seeing them and getting memories of when I used to live here, which was really cool.
And I bought speculoos spread, and later today I'm going out for speculoos ice-cream :D. Speculoos are a type of ginger snaps.

Other big differences: big cheese section with much more variety than in North America, and no vegetarian section or products. (There are products that are vegetarian, of course. Just the produce section is full of them :P But none of them are labeled or, for the most part, designed as such).

Probably more thoughts to come. I'm thinking I might start writing down everything about my trip, the differences, etc. Some kind of journal. Then I'll go over the parts that sound interesting and might make a blog out of them or something.

I imagine it would, and it may continue to do so. I think the post count has more of an effect on the frequency of people's posting than they'd like to let on.

I'm actually just lazy and don't navigate to this thread unless it's the most recent posted because opening forum games is too much work. Therein, this means if people stop posting then I stop posting.

Dear God, I'd have to add ONE EXTRA CLICK.

I'm sorry, but I get winded at three clicks.

Well, you also have to remember. And remembering things is hard. Especially when your brain is filled with nonsense like N5, N10 methylene-tetrahydrofolate reductase and such.

It ain't going back. But, you know, I'm sorta getting used to this. For one thing, I have a two hundred post-count lead on Pants again. And counting.

Also, no one can accuse me of only posting in here to boost my post count. So, I'm finally free to talk as much as I want with no negative repercussions.

Make that very few negative repercussions.

I look forward to the End of Times. I hope they'll all be as humorous as that bucket one. This forum could definitely use some cheering up.

Somebody remembered my bucket thread, that's heart warming. I only wish that people remembered my Prometheus thread with the same level of affection.

Honestly, posting on this thread is like being a 5 star chef, forced to work in McDonalds.

Actually, it was called "A bucket". And it delivered a nice, shiny bucket.

So where is this Prometheus thread again? I probably read it, but I can't really remember when or where.

    Was the hooker named Waffle?

Davies, are you alright? Do you need to talk to some one about this? You're drunk more than your sober anymore. Is everything ok, my friend? I used to be enslaved in the bottle, I'd understand if you have addiction, I wouldn't judge you but maybe we could talk it over and reconsider your behavior. If you're happy that's fine, but man, I remember getting into trouble with that bottle a few times. Is everything alright?

I'm far from alright but this is hardly the forum (excuse the pun) to discuss such things. Thanks all the same my friend.

You're amongst friends,Davies, pm some one if you need to get something off your chest that you feel is causing problems for you. None of your friends here want you to struggle. Davies, feel free to pm any one, doesn't have to be me.
