Why did the Alcohol thread got locked? Did it have to do anything with my post?
  • edited July 2011
    Hurrr.....

I need to motivate myself to do something.

If my snes cable doesn't arrive tomorrow, I think I should spend the day working on fleshing out my video game ideas.

I got two very good ones, that I could possibly do, but its a tough challenge.

    Idea 1:

    Hard to explain this one.

So basically the concept is that the game is like Bit trip runner, (cannabalt style, but fixed).
You run from one side of a level to another.

    BUT

Unlike those games where, you die and die, this one is more forgiving in that sense.
mis-timing jumps and hitting obstacles can damage you but its no life killer

Here is where the twist kicks in:

So not only do you have to jump and duck on occasion, but you also use the mouse to aim and shoot at the enemies flying in the screen as well.

The game will keep track of score and have multipliers (so being able to kill enemies and move in flow with each other scores big)

And now for the biggest twist:

    The levels are branched.

So far I have these branching possibilites in my head:

Shoot the floor into a sloped basement
Perfect timing of a jump allows you to land on a higher platform
Shooting a switch opens a door
Destroying glass window in a building (so instead of sliding down the building you go through it)
Grappling hook? (Jump, hook, swing? (maybe on a later level if I can do it))

Finding hidden branches will give extras and allow better scoring, (but may be harder paths, much harder! >: D)

    Idea 2:

Taking a concept like Recettear, but making it more macro, and bringing a more western spin on the title.

(I explained it a bit more in the art thread, and I can't be bothered to cut and paste)

I got some pretty interesting stories for both ideas, the first being not dark, but fairly serious (sort of a little bit darker than say Megaman X (which is one of the main influences stylistically)), and the second being much more lighthearted and goofy.

I think I can do it. I just need to focus.
(I get distracted by so much these day... :( )

But of course your post is part of a pattern, or potential for something to manifest. Directly, indirectly yes, as well as the rest of humanity along with you. :p:
    JA JA JA JA

At least everyone in the thread.

Well, it was a thread about alcohol...it was sort of destined to get locked at some point.

Precisely, :p Only as we responded to it.

It's stupid that it was locked just as it got back on track. My theory: Vainamoinen is working for the Basij to punish JonNA for drinking in a theocratic state. It just makes sense.
  • edited July 2011
    No one is punishing anyone.

Perhaps not, but if I'm not whining about locked threads then I'm not really doing my jorb, am I?
  • edited July 2011
and if I'm not helping curb the whining about said locked threads...I'm not doing my Jorb either.

One thing I hate about summer: I get so trained to notice spiders nearby that I start seeing dark spots out of the corner of my eye when nothing's there. Also, the goddamn spiders.
  • edited July 2011
Look. Summer is a lot like madness. All it takes is one little push and gravity does the rest.

Human beings, I present, am some what ignorant. Some more than others. They don't understand what they are doing, how much devastation their actions may cause.

They don't? Aren't humans in fact the only known species with the ability to comprehend that they are a stupid and cruel race? Isn't that what effectively distinguishes us from animals?

I'm going to be in so much trouble now. (well in trouble with my little bro)

I had to go and get his McDonalds today, so I did.

He ordered a Big Tasty, fries, McFlurry and a coke zero.

So I got them, but as I was walking home, (I was listening to music the whole time you see), somehow the bag split!

So I just get to my door and looked down at the bag and noticed the burger hanging out of it! GAH!

I checked the bag and realised the fries had fallen out while I was walking along! O_O

I'm hoping, I'm really hoping that giving my little bro my free cheese burger (students get a free burger with every value meal), will appease him.

Though I imagine he's going to be angry and shouting, "GOODBYE CHIPS!" all day now.

    Just what I need.... :/

EDIT: As predicted he's not taking it too well.... DX

Perhaps you're right, but how often do they rise to this potential. Truly?

I got a PM from someone on the Racketboy forums today.

Dude says he lives near me.

Looked at his profile and he's been posting there a while, (I'd say 2 years and 400-odd posts means he probably safe), and he's 36 too.

Don't quite know how to reply though.
Not normally like this, I guess the proximity and the fowardness caught me out a bit.
(Plus his grammar is a little dodgy as well. (though its probably me. I tend to take great care normally when I type))

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. - HP Lovecraft, creator of Spongebob Squarepants.
