    I plan on clones, myself.

This could backfire ... if naturally bred offspring is so expensive, I don't want to calculate the cost of cloned offspring.

Sooo...is anyone lurking in the background to formally bring this incarnation of the thread to a close? Hmm? HMM?

Well, the idea for clones is not exactly cost effective, but more of a asexual reproduction type of approach.

Conglaturation Alcoremortis! You have the 20,000th post on the Whatever's on your mind thread!

Oh damn. I didn't even notice! I should have posted something cooler, shouldn't I? Like...like...a dragon...with a jet pack...killing Nazis or something. No...wait. Dragons don't use jetpacks. Maybe a velociraptor? I guess it doesn't matter now.

    Clones are cool, right?

If you have kids, it will sooner or later end like star wars: At the highest point of your career, your kids will push you down into a reactor cavity.

    Snape killed Dumbledore.

I feel like sexual reproduction and cloning have faults in that they introduce more humans into a strained system. Why not adopt?

Because sometimes you want to propagate your own genetic material. It's an evolution thing, if you've got good genes you want them to get passed on or else you're evolutionarily unfit.

But by using cloning, you're essentially doing a generational repeat. There is no addition or strengthening of the genetic code, and the possibility of reproduction by going crazy and creating clones is higher. Eventually, the entire human race will be composed of asexual Alcoremortises. How are you going to explain THAT to the first alien contact, hm?

If they did, I would just start a new thread called "The 'whatever's on you mind' thread, Volume 2."

I doubt it will go further than a generation. The clone while genetically identical will be raised in different conditions than I was and will therefore be a very different person. Given the variables, I find it highly unlikely that a clone of me would decide to then clone herself. So, no need to worry about me taking over the planet through my offspring.

I think people have the wrong ideas. Rather than consider genes the only thing worth passing on, when they really don't amount to anything special, we should focus on passing on knowledge and value, both of which can easily be done through adoption.

Also, with cloning and sexual reproduction you need to make your own humans. With adoption and kidnapping you can take existing ones and indoctrinate them. Statistically, it has a bigger impact because you indoctrinate the same amount of people, but in a world that has less of them. Think about it.

So instead of having an increasing birth rate, we reduce that, and in doing so make it easier to brainwash the next generation? That reeks of controlling.

This thread is too long. I'm guessing the mod in question would open the Volume 2.

Honestly, does it really matter how long the thread is? Opening up another thread would only serve to make it more difficult to reference posts that happened in this thread or to delve through backlog. All a new thread would do is decrease the page number and post number.

Oh, and give everyone another shot at getting the 10,000th post.

I meant from the system's point of view, not ours.

I can't find Strong Bad's DVD anywhere. I reckon my friend might have it, seeing as he only seems to give games back when he has the chance to borrow new ones he likes. FFS I hate DRM. The cr@cks I can find are for the download versions.

I just booted up Star wars episode 3 on DVD, and was presented with a huge spoiler in the menu screen (which changes everytime you watch the DVD). I.e. that the senator is evil. When I first watched the film, I had no idea that was so (yeah, it seems really obvious now, I know, but I was young!). If i had been confronted with that when I started the film for the first time (the DVD was bought on release, and that was when I first saw it), I would have been furious. It would have ruined the film for me. Which makes me think: Why on earth do they do that? Why not just have a nice, non-spoilery graphic. Maybe just one of the promotional posters with a bit of movement in it and some noises (like hair moving, spaceships flying across the screen etc.)?

Wait, did you watch the prequels without ever having seen the originals?

    Dear GOG.com:

Why do you have Ultima 1-6 up for sale, and not Ultima 7? We both know you have it. We both know I want to shower my money upon it.

I've seen this before, I think. But I can't remember where. Or why.

I find it interesting that it's a silent film but will withhold any judgement about its quality until the thing is actually released.

He.. he made it through Jar Jar Binks.. and then he survived Jake Lloyd... and then he couldn't make it through A New Hope. This goes against all logic.

    I have a theory!

Friar, are you by any chance from the Bizarro World?

I also have a theory: he watched the Special Edition versions.

If he were to watch the original version or Adywan's fan edit, it would be all better.
