Okay, so IGN say that TTG's TWD isn't really a zombie game so much as a highly dialogue-driven adventure game with zombies in it.

I have to ask: is it really very good? I mean, given their record with BTTF and JP...

The comics aren't really zombie comics either.

I wouldn't brand it an adventure game in the traditional sense, but personally I think it's miles better than BTTF and JP.

Where TWD succeeded was in removing the parts of adventure games that make them somewhat inaccessible/intimidating to new audiences (i.e. difficult puzzles), and replacing those gameplay elements with the ability to influence story development. There aren't really any puzzles. It's a bit like a tailored movie, or a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book. There are also occasional quicktime events that create tension and urgency during critical moments. Pretty much anyone will just breeze through the game, it's not hard.

If you're familiar with the world of The Walking Dead at all, you'll know that it focuses on some difficult human stuff and moral grey areas. Because the game forces you to make the tough decisions yourself, it can get very emotionally engaging. You're trying to navigate a new world where the old rules just don't apply any more... not to mention that you've got an impressionable little girl in tow. That's where the draw is: the tailored story and the emotional involvement.

If you're looking for traditional adventure game puzzles, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a compelling story that will draw you in, The Walking Dead may be worth checking out.

    Do the choices actually stick?

It occurs to me that NPCs in BTTF would call Marty "Michael Corleone" sometimes no matter what name choice you originally picked.

Some users reported issues with saves between episodes 1 and 2, I don't recall seeing a similar wave when episode 3 came out though. You can read about the save issues in summary form here. Basically for a various reasons a bunch of people got a popup when starting ep 2 that said their choices would be randomised, but in most cases it was an incorrectly set flag - their saves weren't affected and their choices did persist.

    Ha.

I meant "one if those people who consider TWD to be distinct in genre from Romero-style zombie media". It is a common assertion by people who have no idea what they're talking about.

Okay, haven't played The Waking Dead, and it really seems unlikely for a downloadable episodic game, but could The Waking Dead really make a chance at earning at least one GOTY award nomination?

I'm sorry, but this is really, really dumb.

The Super Sentai series was combining mecha back in 1975.
Beast King Golion didn't start until 1981.

Even though "Power Rangers" is based off the 1992 iteration of Super Sentai, and rips its footage from that iteration, that doesn't magically transform it into a brand new thing that could have stolen ideas from "Voltron". That's not...I mean, you guys know how translation and localization work, right? The works are already there and made and have their own actual histories. They don't emerge, butterfly-like into a world in which they had never existed, with their footage and writing now subject to a new quantum understanding under which only the US releases of these things matter.

Then you have to let go.

Everyone is going to make their own choices anyway. If you try to force them to be together and happy, they'll resent you for it. Just let it all explode, try to keep things civil at least between yourself and everyone, and they may all come back together eventually.

I have way too much experience with this.

It's just me and my dad. My sister lives with her boyfriend's family, so she's mostly away from this mess. I, on the other hand, have to deal with my dad every night, and to say that he's not coping with the loss of my mom well is an understatement. The biggest thing is that he can't handle being in this house. There's so much he wants to do and so much clutter he wants to get rid of, it's driving him nuts. I think he's largely having trouble with life in general, but he's been venting it through his frustration with the house.

And at this point, we need each other. He can't get along without me, and I have nowhere to go without him. Unfortunately, I'm not at a place in my life where I can support myself, and even more unfortunately, my dad's such a wreck that this is the only type of support I'm able to get out of him.
