Just bought the game today, and got this crash straight away.
1: Are you using a software firewall? If so, have you allowed access to the game?
Yes, yes.
2: Do you have anti-virus software? If so, who makes it? Is it up to date? Is it blocking access to our game?
Yes, MS Security Essentials, up to date, and no problem with the game.
3: Does the game work if you run it while disconnected from the Internet?
Yes, but unplugging my network cable isn't the most convenient solution.
1. no, no software firewall
2. Microsoft Security Essentials, yes it is up to date, no it is not blocking
3. no, I receive the same error whether I am connected to my ISP or not.
EDIT solution: thanks
One other thing you could try is disabling the entire savegame folder, e.g. by renaming
C:\Documents and Settings\Jeff\My Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead
to
C:\Documents and Settings\Jeff\My Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead Off
EDIT2
next problem: I cannot re-install episodes 2-5 ?! no connection.
Hi, I am haveing problemes with the game too but my probleme is after i load the game (tghfru steam) the menu is here and when i try to play the first episode it shows the error.Hope theres an solution to the probleme for all of us and that we can finally play this epic game.
NOW THE ANSWEARS!
1.Yes,but i did allow acces to the game.
2.Avast,it is up to date and it isnt blocking the game
Originally when I tried to start the game it just did nothing. After following the troubleshooting tips you gave it started giving me an application error which says: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application.
I am currently running Windows 7 64 bit. Core I5-2500k chip 8gb of ram and a radeon HD6770 with 4Gb.
The Walking Dead was purchased through Steam and I have spent three weeks trying to get this thing to work.
The walking dead refuses to start, no matter which of the solutions I follow. Starting it as admin doesn't work, starting it as Xp doesn't work. I have been through every forum on this subject and I cannot get it to work.
I no longer care about a solution I want a refund.

If the crash appears shortly after "click to continue", some people had success by updating their BIOS.

1: Are you using a software firewall? If so, have you allowed access to the game?
Yes, Zone Alarm. Yes, I have given it access to the game.
2: Do you have anti-virus software? If so, who makes it? Is it up to date? Is it blocking access to our game?
Yes, Eset's NOD32 Antivirus 6. Yes, it is up to date, and no, it isn't blocking access to the game. Disabling it doesn't fix the problem.
3: Does the game work if you run it while disconnected from the Internet?
Yes, it does. Though that is the Steam version, not the stand alone version.
