Alright, so he gave up one time. That doesn't change the fact that he was pretty much hopeful like 99% of the rest of the time he was on screen.
Optimistic: "Hopeful and confident about the future"
Is Kenny hopeful? Yes. Is he confident? Hell yes. I'm just going off of the actual definition here. Just because he isn't bubbly and obnoxious doesn't mean he isn't optimistic.
His boat plan? Did you forget when he got pissed drunk and trashed the boat plan because he couldn't find another one? And that's before he … moreeven looked around somewhere else. And Wellington? I can't really say he's optimistic about it, considering he only wanted to be there so AJ could live a happy life.
Optimism isn't exactly about the future. It's looking at things in a positive way. If Kenny was optimistic, he would be like Omid.
Kenny is hopeful with his own plans, and even they have backfired. He even trashed the plan of getting out of the herd when Sarita died. Including; "There isn't some bullshit outta this one, Clementine. There's no boat, there's no train..." I fail to see optimism.

It's kind of understandable for someone to be down trodden after their lover dies. An optimistic person doesn't have to be optimistic 100% of the time to be considered optimistic. I would say that Kenny ran on optimism most of the time, even if he didn't have the bubbly happy go lucky attitude to go with it.

Well, that's the thing. Being optimistic is looking at everything hopefully. I can say he did this 60-40, but he's not always optimistic. He just likes to get to the good bits without thinking of the consequences.

60-40? I'll take it, considering that is a majority of the time. I don't think it's realistic to expect an optimistic person to be optimistic 100% of the time regardless of circumstance. Isn't that kind of like saying that you can't call someone a happy person because they have been sad or angry before?

Man, that sounds a lot more dubious than the reality. Which is most people are aware of common sense, Joel is the superior fighter. He's taken on entire platoon's of heavily armed militant soldiers and won. He's single-handedly fought off legions of seven foot tall blood-thirsty mutant freaks that throw acid at you and won. And he's killed half a town's worth of bandits while severely hurt in the freezing cold and won.
Kenny beat a guy's face inside out after shooting out his knee's leaving him completely defenseless.

If Kenny got tossed through the meat grinder for another 18 years, he could probably match Joel in terms of fighting capability and overall survival instinct
..Ok cool. It's still not going to change my answer, because I have never played this game, so I don't have any first hand experience with the character to base my opinion off of.

It's simple, Kenny got into one fair fight with a single one-hundred and twenty-five pound woman in season two. A one-hundred and twenty-five pound woman who constantly lunged when she swung and had terrible fighting posture.
Joel has initiated fights with entire groups of goons and came out on top. Hell, he beat two six foot tall dudes at once while very hurt after killing a dozen of their guys.
I may not have played this game, but the main playable character is always a lot stronger, more skilled in fighting, as well as more agile than the secondary characters, and because we're controlling them they always have the upper hand. I don't think you can compare a character that you can control with one that you can't control fairly.

No one said anything about their fighting abilities. The question of the thread is: "Who would you rather travel with"... not "who is the better fighter".

idk. If we're going off of toughness, not strength, I'd say he's pretty tough. He was able to take a beating to the face and live, and could force himself to carry on with his life even though he was obviously in a very low state in life.

I'm that type of person that can prevent people from killing each other, so I'm okay with that. And I don't need unneccessary comments like "you need to pick Joel" because I'm sure that I have my own opinion and I don't understand why do you try to convince people that they're wrong for some reason just because they want to pick Kenny aswell.
Not me bro, i'm too much man for one female, I'm the kind of guy who needs to move to Utah, so i can experience the Jill sandwich without being looked at like some sort of pervert.
You're the type a person who can prevent people from killing each other? Have you actually ever done that or do you just think you can? Even if you have, trust me, you wouldn't be able to stop Joel from killing who he wants to, maybe not even Kenny.

Hm...I never really connected with the guy. There was just something about his personality that didn´t click with me. Likewise, I wasn´t that fond of Ellie as most people are.
Yes, I commented on a chain of posts talking about fighting abilities, but those posts were completely irrelevant to what you two were replying to in the first place, hence why I said what I said. It had nothing to do with my opinions about either Joel or Kenny. Choosing Kenny simply because of not knowing anything about Joel or TLOU is obviously completely reasonable, and has nothing to do with comparing the characters' fighting abilities.
I suppose I should apologize for the insult though. That may have been a little uncalled for.
You commented on a chain of posts talking about fighting abilities though.
You said "You guys are pretty bright." Because we were saying that Joel is obviously a much more experienced fighter than Kenny.
I don't think I would want to travel with either of them. They've both suffered so much, and they both have major trust issues, I wouldn't feel safe travelling with Joel or Kenny unless I was a 12-year-old girl.
In terms of capability, Joel has survived two decades in a world infested with a deadlier breed of zombie (this would explain his much more"pessimistic" worldview when compared to Kenny) and Kenny is half blind, so I would feel safer with Joel.

The two main cons that made me choose Joel:
He is irrational.
He tends to not think things through.
Kenny is hopeful with his own plans, and even they have backfired. He even trashed the plan of getting out of the herd when Sarita died. Including; "There isn't some bullshit outta this one, Clementine. There's no boat, there's no train..." I fail to see optimism.

Well, in the ZA there's really no such thing as optimism anymore. God knows how Omid kept his hilarity.
How about you check out Joel in action first, because he's dealt with worse shit for 20 years.

More like a chihuahua against a tiger....
I'm not sure how you can really say that, seems like a little bit of a cop out to me
But we'll just agree to disagree I guess.
You guys are pretty bright.
Joel has the advantage of being an action game protagonist. Those guys are all one-man armies.
If Kenny got tossed through the meat grinder for another 18 years, he could probably match Joel in terms of fighting capability and overall survival instinct
I like them both but I think Joel is the smarter option to go with here.
..Ok cool. It's still not going to change my answer, because I have never played this game, so I don't have any first hand experience with the character to base my opinion off of.
Why should the amount of angst and hardship the character has went through affect my answer?
Joel. No contest here.
I want to travel with Me, Myself and I

Just curious.
That sucks
Why not both?

Because Kenny would piss off Joel, they'd fight and Kenny would die, after about 10-25s.
Might as well just pick Joel, to avoid unnecessary bloodshed.
Nah, I would love to see that fight.
