Who's tougher, Lee or Kenny?

edited January 2015 in The Walking Dead

Before I give my opinion, let's consider some facts.

First off, their employment.

Lee worked as a college professor.
Though while extreemly smart, his job was not a very physically demanding job.

Kenny, on the other hand, worked as a commercial fisherman.
Being in the fishing business is highly strenuous job, not to mention dangerous.
A man has to be strong, both in body and in mind, in order to do it.

Second, their backgrounds.

While nothing is really known about what type of people his parents were, from what we know about Lee's personality, it seems safe to assume that Lee's parents were kindly people.

Kenny in Episode 5 of Season 2, revealed that his dad; to quote him: "Was a mean son of a bitch, but he taught me respect."
So Kenny had a tough childhood, and thus grew up to be tough.

Now let's consider the feats they accomplished in the game.

Lee: Suffered a gash on the leg, but somehow managed to limp to safety, and then managed to kill a walker with a claw hammer.
At the St John Dairy, Lee managed to beat the crap out of Andy, after he had been knocked out by being slugged in the head with a rifle-butt.
And in Savannah, Lee managed to fight his way through a herd of walkers, and then managed to strangle a man, even though on the brink of death.

Kenny: Suffered a gunshot to the side at point-blank range from a hunting rifle, and managed to walk back to the motel unaided, and then later on managed to go on a supply-run into Macon.
In Savannah, Kenny managed to escape an alleyway full of walkers, despite not having any weapons, and then afterward survived for months on his own.
At Carver's camp, after having gotten beaten nearly to death; having lost his eye, Kenny managed to get up just hours after the beating, and managed to beat Carver to death.
At the history museum, Kenny managed to fight off walkers, buying time for the others to escape to the observation tower.
And during that fight with Jane, Kenny sustained a cut to the stomach from a hunting knife.
And yet having suffered all these injuries, Kenny was able to walk for 9 days, until he and Clementine reached Wellington.

So who's tougher?
Honestly, at this point I'd say Kenny.
Though I will say that Lee is a very close runner-up.

Who's your pick?

DISCLAIMER: I realize this is far from a new topic, but then again; that's true of pert-near every topic on here.
So I figured: "What the hell!?"

HNNNNNGGG I love them both. But... UGHHH. Lee. Kenny is tough too, both men are. But, Kenny was sorta made to be unstable. Lee had his moment of weakness too when he killed the man his wife was cheating on him with. (Understandably so.) But Lee found out his parents were dead, and then had to put down his own brother. Also, if we choose too, Lee cuts off his arm. And saves Clem.

Kenny is a badass too, but, if it came down to it, Lee is much tougher in the sense that I think he could endure a lot more than Kenny could and still come out... not so emotionally disturbed.

Also, cool topic! It's new to me, so, I like it. :D

  • Lee, doesnt mean i like him more but.....Lee

  • Really it boils down to S1E3 on the train. Did you kick Kenny's ass? or did Kenny kick your ass?

  • Kenny. The answer is always Kenny.

  • Lee is tougher. He can go through more traumatic situations than Kenny, and still think rationally. (Or as close as he can get on some occasions). With one arm, he can choke someone to death, and even on the brink of death pass on valuable information as well as keeping a cool head about dying.

  • Kenny knows how to take a beating. That man can withstand a great deal of punishment... but so can Lee, and Lee also knows how to dish it out. So my answer is Lee.

  • If it was season one, yeah Lee would kick Kenny's ass...but if it were season two and Lee were still alive and well even with two arms, Kenny wins.

  • Train fight. Lee won.

But I think Season 2 Kenny would beat him.

  • Lee is tougher I'd say, risking his own life to save people, going through a horde of walker for a little girl, sure he may have been bit but he still saved someone even when he was dying.

  • Train fight. Lee won

    That's completely determinant though.

Train fight. Lee won. But I think Season 2 Kenny would beat him.

  • Lee, definitely Lee. The way you get to raise Clem, the way you die at the end (shot by Clem for me) is so emotional, so powerful, I still cry when I think of that moment and when Clem was telling that story in Season 2, oh God, here I go...

  • Lee would beat season 1 Kenny easy, but season 2 Kenny could probably just as tough

  • The only way Kenny can win in that fight on the train is if Lee doesn't do anything.

  • Yes, beating a mans face in who you just shot twice in the kneecaps is the virtue of strength. Plus remember when Kenny could barely overpower a scrawny five-foot-ten woman who had terrible fighting form and was barely able to thrust a knife into her chest after a minute and a half of putting his body weight onto the knife on top of said scrawny woman?

    He's the next M. Bison.

Patrick sure seems a bit crusty at that crab...

  • Well I meant more when he pins Mike easily, also Jane wasn't beaten to shit and missing an eye. And lee could still beat season 2 Kenny to be honest. I was just trying to say Kenny got stronger from season 1 to 2

Well I meant more when he pins Mike easily

Mike wasn't trying to fight back though. You think he wants to get in trouble for further instigating a fight with a new "member" in Carver's community? Plus, Mike was easily able to carry two huge tanks of water for like a mile without breaking a sweat. You think he couldn't overpower Kenny?

also Jane wasn't beaten to shit and missing an eye

That hardly factors into anything. He's psychically stronger than her (or should be) and was barely able to muster enough strength to finish her off. Even with the large amount of adrenaline he most likely had produced at that point.

And lee could still beat season 2 Kenny to be honest.

    No doubt.

I was just trying to say Kenny got stronger from season 1 to 2

Not really. He was a punk in season 1 and largely remained a punk in season 2.

  • I'd say Lee. Lee can fight through an entire herd of walkers, (determinant) get bitten 2-3 more times while in the herd, (determinant) get shot by the stranger, and then strangle him. Doing all of this while on the brink of death and with(determinant) one arm.

  • Fine. But there wasn't any proof to back up your claim.

    Just saying.

  • I don't think Kenny is really a fighter but can take a beating the way no one else in TWD can. Carver smashed a radio into his head multiple times and he was good as new in a few hour, he took a shot gun blast at point blank aim and was up on his feet in a minute, he even muscled his way out of a 12 on one walker horde with no weapons. Not anyone could do that. I'd say they're the same

It's been 2 years since the outbreak, I think it's plausible that he indeed improved.

And by improved, I mean "marginally less shitty than before, but still shitty"

Like, him punching my face before would do nothing. Now when he punches me, it stings for 2 seconds. It's an improvement, but not a very big one.

Fine. But there wasn't any proof to back up your claim. Just saying.

  • Well I don't really want to go back and forth. I was also not aware this thread was all about backing up your evidence when the thread is about who you think was stronger. But I suppose my evidence would be: we see Mike is very strong like you aid and he wouldn't want to get in a fight. Very true but If Kenny was as weak as you say then Mike would just push him off. Who would get in trouble? The new guy who has been causing problems from day 1 or the guy who has been doing the work for who knows how long. Also saying that Kenny already being beaten up during the Kenny and Jane fight was irrelevant is illogical. If a guy already beaten up and now has no perspective in depth, they have a huge disadvantage. Jane also shoves her fingers into his eye, and starts fighting back the moment Jane gets off him.

Fine. But there wasn't any proof to back up your claim. Just saying.

Lee's definitely the tougher one in that he can both take a beating, but also dish it back.

Kenny's a fucking tank and can definitely take a good beating, although he isn't very good at dishing it back.

  • In that kind of situation, either you improve, or you die.
So in order to survive, Kenny has had to get stronger and tougher.

And having read the following comments, I have to agree that Season 2 Kenny, could probably whip Lee.
And just because I brought Lee up, I have to say that I miss playing as Lee, and it sucks to not be playing him this Season.
Playing as Lee was fun, especially when you compare it to playing as a little girl, who your character in Season one mentored.

    Fair enough.

I don't see any actual substantial evidence to back your claim. But, whatever I suppose. The one thing to take away from this is it really doesn't matter who'd win. Cause Lee is dead. And in most people's story, so is Kenny.

Lee may be the more stable one out of the two,
But lets not forget Kenny was the one who killed all the Russians in the shoot out scene, thats another level of BADASSERY for me. (Yes Jane stabbed one of them in the back, but the final touch was performed by Kenny, so technically Kenny killed them all)

  • My money would be on Lee being tougher, but Kenny can sure take an ass kickin that's for sure.
