how do you make an image look all pixellated like that?
  • That "Monkey Wars" is epic. If it were a poster, I would hang it on my wall for sure.

YOU DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY HAVE PERMISSION TO POST THIS ON YOUR SITE! ALWAYS ASK FIRST!

Nevermind Bagge, I did it myself ;D But credit to you for the idea!

Resize the image to one half, third or some other fraction of your final size using a bilinear or better scaling algorithm then point-resize to the previously mentioned final size... :)

    aha! brilliant!

I think Bagge must have put on some cool filters before pixelating the image, or tweaked it heavily by hand. It would look more weird and shimmery if all he did was trick resize it.

Edit: I forgot about the concept art of the lab. I was thinking he made that from a screenshot... it'd be a lot harder to convert a 3D image into something that looks so hand-drawn... now I realize it was a hand-drawn image to start with, and everything makes sense. :p

    by the way

he possibly posterized it before resizing it, to reduce the number of colors

Okay, so this may be the fangirl in me busting out, but I do believe we need to see Guybrush ala no-shirt style.
    Yes indeedy.

Say, how does one load an image that doesn't have a url? Say, like one from your computer?

    Upload it to
    http://www.imageshack.us/

and use the direct link that will be created.
Or if it is small enough you could make an attachement to your post.

So you'd be willing to sign something for the contest winner, then. :)

I'd love to make one too, but I'm bad at graphics.
So here my idea, I'd love someone to make this real:
A picture of the puppet from Child's Play and LeChuck's Head instead of its head, with a caption saying
    "Chuckie is back"

GRAND-PRIZE: The actual Secret of Monkey island (not returnable or for resale.)
  • edited July 2009
    Okay. Prepare to be disturbed.

I started out with this idea:

    marquis2.jpg

Which seemed to naturally morph into this:

    piranha-poodle.jpg

I do believe we have uncovered the secrets of what MDS's hybrid experiments were really all about.

The thread will be closed to new contest entries 10 AM PST on July 13th as my coworkers and I hold a super top-secret vote. I'll announce the winners and their prizes a day or two after.

You can continue posting images after the contest closes if you fancy.

If I had that Guybrush Dancing gif I want from episode one this would be the proper time to use it.

After all the visits of old guybrush in ToMI we've seen so far, I thought I'd try it the other way around.

New guybrush in 7 glorious colors and 774 pixels :)

And once again in his new home
    modernguybrushscene.png

PS: At this resolution and color depth, you could fit more than 25 days worth of animation (uncompressed, 15fps) onto a DVD!

How could you do this image without doing the "Marquis DeSinge -> Singe (the Dragon)" substitution?

    Fail.
