Argus
Argus Keding looked to the north from atop the high Wall. Keran was somewhere in there, in those woods or mountains. Hopefully he w… moreas still alive. Keran had been one of the few people here that matched what Argus had been told about Night’s Watch, what he had expected. Sure he had heard that also criminals were often sent here, but he had expected there to be honorable warriors at least as much as thieves and rapists. Keran was lowborn but more honorable than most highborn ones at the Wall. Edric Mormont was about same age with Argus and surely a great warrior but for some reason Argus didn’t like him that much. He didn’t know much about Ramsay Derran or Rambton Snow but they seemed pretty decent, though he had heard some disturbing rumors about why Rambton had been sent to the Wall. Wulfric Ironsteed seemed a little strange one to Argus. He was a great fighter and even a good leader, fought with a magnificent trident spear, laughed … [view original content]

“I would like to stay here, in the Vale of Thenn. If you don’t mind.” She couldn’t keep the weakness out of her words. First Fleshbearer let out a little laugh, then darkness came to his eye.
“Here? You want to be slut of the Thenns?” Fleshbearer took steps closer to Lenlie as he spoke. “I see weakness in you, woman. I hate weakness, and I hate women, such useless things both of them.”
“I just thought that…” Lenlie tried to say but Fleshbearer cut her off with a hard punch into the face. As Lenlie layed on the hard ground in great pain, she spitted blood and one of her teeth out of her mouth. “I’m sorry…” Her voice was weaker than it had … [view original content]

It came closer and closer to Lenlie’s neck.
“Stop right there you sick bastard!” A strong voice of a woman shouted. Both Lenlie and Fleshbearer turned their heads. It was Princess Sigira, holding a longbow, aiming right at Fleshbearer. Fleshbearer shook his head and started to walk towards Sigira.
“Our pretty little princess, you look tasty. Your daddy has clearly not taught you where your place is… YOU HEAR ME, BITCH?!” Fleshbearer’s roaring sent shivers down Lenlie’s spine and she could see that even Sigira didn’t have all the courage in her eyes anymore.
“You are nothing here, Fleshbearer… I should kill you right there, maybe that would be for the best.” The princess spoke with disgust in her words, disgust towards this monster in front of her.
“Hah, remember this little princess. One day I am going to torture you, I am going to kill you, and I am going to fuck you. In that order.” Fleshbearer said quietly, but Sigira didn’t show fear. For the first time Lenlie even saw the same kind of hardness in Sigira’s face that her father Magnar Krygorn always had.
“It’s time for you to leave these lands.” Sigira said with a cold tone. Fleshbearer still had his blade in his hand, and he took again couple steps closer to the princess.
“Don’t fuck this up now Fleshbearer! We’re allies with the Magnar and she is his daughter!” Lenlie shouted desperately. And Fleshbearer turned to her again.
“Fuck this up? No, you are the one who has fucked up. You stay here now, but I will promise you one thing. If I ever see you again, I’ll make you rue this day. Remember that.” Those were Fleshbearer’s last, intimidating words before he left. After that Princess Sigira came to Lenlie and comforted her.
“I could take you to a house close by, you can live there for now.” Sigira spoke warmly.
“And… Whose house is it?” Lenlie asked weakly. The princess smiled to her and raised her up from the ground.
“A trusted friend’s.”
-
“A friend? Hah! I think we’re more than just friends, my dear princess.” Gorgar, a handsome man in his late twenties, said with a playful tone after Sigira had introduced him to Lenlie.
“You wish.” Sigira answered with a laugh. “Anyway, this is Lenlie. She comes from the Ice Rivers and needs a place to stay for now.”
“Alright, who am I to say no to beautiful Princess Sigira. So, welcome Lenlie, I have enough room for you here, no worries.” Gorgar said, but Lenlie wasn’t quite sure if the man meant it.
“Thank you, I’ve had a hard couple of months… Fleshbearer is… Well he is dangerous.” Lenlie said, feeling a relief that monster wasn’t around her anymore.
“A sick bastard if you ask me. I feel sorry for you having to travel with him all the way from Ice Rivers to here.” Sigira said. “Anyway, now that you have decided to stay here, maybe you would like to take part in my father’s war council meetings. I mean, we could need someone who knows about Ice River clans now that we have alliance with them.”
Lenlie thought about it. She had never really been someone to make huge decisions or even giving advice on making them, but as Sigira said she did know her own people better than Magnar Krygorn or any other Thenn. Maybe the Magnar would need her advice.

It was already dark outside but it still looked like the conversation between Maester Jon and the Lord Commander wasn’t about to end.
“You risk too much with a mission like that. And we both know it’s because of Keran. You were starting to see him almost as your son, right? There is nothing wrong with that, but tell me, and speak the truth, would you really be planning a mission like this if it was just Rambton Snow missing?” The voice of the old maester was tired and desperate.
“I would.” Jack Musgood said, with quiet and cold tone. Even Robett could hear that it was a lie, but he didn’t blame Jolly Jack for it. Keran was a good man, one of the few here.
“I told you to speak the truth. I’m trying to offer you some wisdom while you are blinded by your feelings Jack. Please, take this wisdom, because it’s all I can offer you.” Maester Jon tried to find Lord Commanders eyes with his look but failed as Jack turned his dark gaze down to the desk.
“Wisdom of citadel.” Jack said with bitterness in his words. “You tell me to abandon my brothers and call it wisdom… Brothers are all we have here, we can’t turn our back to each other when one of us is in danger.”
“We are here to defend the realms of men, Jack!” Robett had probably never before heard the maester shout like that. And it looked like Jon was even surprised himself, but he continued. “I’m sorry to say this, but we can’t afford to lose our best rangers and the Lord Commander because of one man.” A dark silence filled the room. Robett could see Cruz looking at him from the other side of the room. Why does he keep looking at me?
Before anyone said anything they heard a knocking from the door. First the Lord Commander just sighed. Knock, knock, knock!
“Seven hells! Who the fuck is it now… Robett, open the door.” Jolly Jack growled with not-so-jolly tone and Robett obeyed. As he opened the door he saw something he was not expecting. A tan skinned beautiful man, probably Essosi, with long black hair, purple eyes and colorful clothing, at least compared to everyone else in the Wall. And behind him were two guards that had collars on their necks. Slaves. Before Robett could say anything Jack had walked behind him.
“And who are you, if I may ask.” Jack said with tired and irritated tone. The man walked past Robett and looked around the room.
“This really is the end of the world isn’t it?” The man had some foreign touch in his accent. “Not any kind of warmness here, not in the air, not in the people.” As the man’s guards had followed him inside Robett could see Argus Keding outside the door.
“Lord Commander, this man said he has some kind of business with you… So I brought him here, I’m sorry if this was inappropriate time, but he insisted to meet you immediately.” Argus explained from the door. Jolly Jack didn’t look jolly at all but he nodded to Argus.
“Alright, I’ll talk with our visitor now, you can leave, Argus.” Lord Commander said and Argus Keding left. “You also Jon, our conversation is over.” The maester gave Jack one more concerned look before he left the room with his stewards, Cruz and Dom. And as Cruz walked past Robett he looked him in the eyes. What in seven hells is wrong with him?
Finally there was only Jack, Robett and the man with two slave guards in the room. Jack looked the foreign man and his guards and Robett could see despise in the Lord Commanders eyes.
“Nice sword, seems to be Valyrian steel.” Jack said without any true admire or sympathy in his words.
“It is, I was just visiting the Starks few weeks ago and I must say that their Valyrian steel sword, Ice they call it, is magnificent. But I like mine, and I’m good with it.” The man’s words oozed passion. Passion towards killing? The two guards stayed silent, Robett noticed they were carrying weird swords with curved blades on their waist.
“Sure. So who are you and what is this business of yours?” Jack asked as he went back to his desk.
“I am Eren Meratus and I come from Volantis. Old Volantis that is.” The man sat to the chair that Maester Jon had been on earlier. “My family has done business with westerosi for quite long. We have several ships sailing to King’s Landing, Oldtown and Lannisport. ‘We own the seas’ my father used to say, it’s almost like you westerosi with your house mottos.”
“Fascinating, but I fail to see what all this has to do with me or the Night’s Watch.” Jack said with tired tone.
“Well you see, the southern parts of Westeros, that being Crownlands, Riverlands, Westerlands and the Reach are not in very good shape. The Great Spring Sickness has done its damage. That means I must find business elsewhere. I have already visited Dorne and White Harbor. I also visited Winterfell on my way here, and I thought you could also be a good customer. Well, I know that the Night’s Watch isn’t really that rich but you still need weapons, maybe some wine too and I can lower my prices for you a little. So would you like to do business with me?” Eren Meratus clearly had a silver tongue when he spoke about business.
“Ah, I’m too tired to talk about this matter now… And I’m leaving on a mission soon. But I guess we could talk about this more tomorrow or some other day, if you have the patience to wait. You can sleep in the King’s Tower.” Jack said. Robett could see that the Volantene merchant wasn’t happy about Jolly Jack’s answer.
“So be it.” Eren Meratus said quietly. “My father once sold steel to Night’s Watch. Back then the Lord Commander was a man called Ivan Longbeard. I thought he would still be the commander but I heard in Winterfell that a man called Jack Musgood was the commander now. What happened to Ivan?”
“That man betrayed his brothers, broke his vows and left his post. He is somewhere north of the Wall, if he still is alive.” Jack said with grim voice. “Why do you ask?”
“Oh, my father just told me he was a good man and a good customer. I’m still not sure if you are.” Eren Meratus turned out of the room. His guards gave an intimidating look at the Lord Commander before following their master out of the room. Robett looked at Jack, who seemed irritated and frightened at the same time.
“Time to go to sleep, Robett. Today’s work is over.” Jack said while he took a flagon of wine to his desk. And Robett obeyed.

Hey, I'd like to inform a couple of things at this point.
First thing: I'm going for a small vacation this weekend and might not get time to write, so it might be that you have to wait the next part as long as until Monday or even Tuesday. Sorry for that
The other thing I would like to talk about is a better thing however. I'm planning to take part of the story to the North, the lands of the Starks. As it has been mentioned in the story the the North is under rebellion of Dagon Greyjoy and especially the Stony Shore and Wolfswood is in havoc. The Starks, with the help of their bannermen, are doing their best to push the Ironborn back to the sea. We will most likely not get to see these things in this chapter yet, but the next chapter brings them in.
So, why am I telling this? Because I am humbly asking you all to submit characters to this storyline. Servants of the Starks, characters from the Wolfswood, Ironborn raiders etc. Just put them to category "something else" and tell who they are in the backstory. Go ahead, I'm waiting for your awesome characters!

No decision this time
Awesome Chapter!
Interesting man this Eren fella..Wonder if he got some hidden agenda here?
This is awesome im sorry I haven't been on your fan fiction for a while and just got caught up its amazing. Also I love how you have gorgar acting so far can't wait for more.
Go ahead, I'm waiting for your awesome characters!
incoming Forrester submissions
Hahaa I knew this would happen
You did mention this in the Argus chapter, is there any chance he might leave for the North before he takes his vowels?
