I could see her maybe having a little crush on someone, perhaps if you choose the scene where she stays at Wellington I can see her meeting someone there.
'' A 27 year old hooking up with an 11 year old isn't about love ''
Okay but like...what is ''love'' ?
That's my main problem about you guys opposition. Did I once mentioned anything about sex in my comment ? A relationship is not made of sex, most of the time, I wouldn't even say it's made of love. She did have a ''crush'' on him though, a crush children have for handsome tall guys. Innocent kind of crush. She would like to hug him, hold his hand, stuff like that, nothing beyond.
''Love is a feeling of attachment, devotion, affection for someone. It’s wanting to be by their side, respecting them and appreciating them. It’s knowing them, even their mistakes and really caring for them regardless of their flaws. Physical intimacy may be part of it, of course, but it’s not a rule. Love is about emotions. Two people can mutually love and be committed to each other without having an actual sexual relationship.'' seven cities
STILL.
Ask yourself the question ''why is it wrong to date a child, as an adult ?'', is it because your society decided it was ( I'd ask people hundreds of years ago too '' why is alright to date a child as an adult ? '' ) , because 11 years old are not mature enough to date 27, because it looks awkward ? I don't know find me a ''real'' reason. Something that shows me the negative impact, it could have in either of them, in a world where they have to destroy dead people's brain in their everyday life. Even if you find something unavoidable, it would be seen as an unhealthy relationship, and I actually ship unhealthy relationships quite often. There's really no rules about shipping, none. It's healthier than some relationship I really like, still for you all, it's the worst.. Why ?
You did learn it, because the world around you is convincing you it is. Somehow kids are used to have kids experiences, they are childish because we allow them to be. In our time, where I live, it would be traumatising for a child to have relationship with an adult, because of what people would say about it, because of the perception and because children aren't acting like Clementine at all, at this age. It's the world we made, it's not something children naturally are.
Clementine is not childish, it's something that happened to her, in the context she grew in. The context being different, you can't apply the same rules for a child who's still evolving in a zombie apocalypse. She is 11 ( still learning a lot from what's happening around her ), and I have seen plenty of people complaining about the fact she didn't act like one. I can agree about physical capacities and the fact that everyone when expecting her to save them, still it's really believable that in her mind she is way more mature than a lot of us. Way more mature than me definitly, and I am older. She is independant, resourceful, she definitly knows what she wants or not, what she likes or not, she is not one to randomly accept anything sexual coming from anyone. THAT would be out of character. I think she can be fairly disgusted by these things depending on your choices. She is still born in a ''world like ours'' after all. Still Clementine is NOT, like the kids you can see in your everyday life. She is way more old, in her mind, and that's honestly what's important in a relationship. You can be 40 years old and it's still be so immature, making so many mistakes that I don't see Clementine doing even if it would be her first relationship. Yep...age doesn't define maturity. Experience does, she had a lot.
''If you’re not 18 yet, I have bad news for you. People who are in their twenties or more know very well that when you turn 18 you don’t have an epiphany and all of a sudden you are mature and can have sex with older people. You don’t become a grown up in a matter of hours and everyone will treat you like an adult just because you’re legally one. The way you’re going to be treated and the way you choose to live your life is not a matter of how many years you lived, but what were your experiences until now and how do you deal with them. '' - Seven cities
Now I wasn't really interested in seeing Clementine romancing Luke just because I liked their relationship as it was , I honestly don't really care. I ship Nuke. Still I have observed a difference in when I watched a Youtuber play, people were already fighting over Cluke, so I knew about it, it didn't ''shock'' me, I literally was like ''nah It doesn't interest me, I like him with Jane better'' and the time I played it. I am attracted to man, and the age gap between me and Luke is way shorter. When you play, you don't really ship Clementine with Luke, you may ship yourself with Luke instead. Say it's creepy if you want, but It's pretty normal, it can happen when you play as an adult, but when you play as a child as well. Please take that into account when people tell you they ship Cluke.
Moreover, you guys hate for Cluke made me go to the tag I actually saw many fan arts. Fan arts of Cluke as a Bromance, and fan arts of Cluke as a Romance, the latter was often potrayed with an older Clementine. They were both adults, years had passed. So yeah there's no child involved. It's not always the case though, but it's still Clementine we are talking about, not some random child in 2016 who have never had to see what she had to, and do what she had to do. How is violence more acceptable than age gap ? I wonder. I am sure, she can handle it quite fine.
The fact is, I see relationships in a canon way. I like to ''ship'', in a way that makes sense. Some people don't and it's mainly what the point of shipping is. It would make sense if he was still here for her to develop feelings for him ( it goes both ways ). He has been there for her, they are pretty tight in a platonic way, and the innocent crush she has could slowly, with years, turn into something else. Then yes, to me it would be realistic and even interesting. I like the fact people around them, in the story itself that are born in a world like ours, would dislike it and judge. Seing it as purelly ''sexual'' when honestly we could have an assexual Clementine. What if it was done that way ? Who knows ?
It's not about sex, it's about dynamics, having an interesting and deep bond with someone. It can be a friendship or more than that. When I say I ship something, I say it that way.
bossmanham :
I am not sure I understand how it will be anymore out of character than anyothere ship involving these two. It's not because it doesn't fit your norms, that it's not in character for them to have feelings for each other. And if by that you mean that they don't feel like that in the game, wish is something I think you're right on, it still doesn't mean people can't ship it.
Shipping by definition, is often used for people who aren't canon. Who don't even feel that way for each other. Still it was possible for them to feel that way after a time. You understimate the human kind, and really every other culture is not like the american one nor the French one ( I am french ), what you find disgusting was normal back in the days and may be normal for other people in other countries. Children of our time, doesn't behave like Children of years, centuries ago. Some things you do will be considered as disgusting by them. Don't think that Cluke is universally seen as wrong. What is right ? What is wrong ? and why ?
All of it is defined by men, and men can make mistakes.
Sorry if I offended anyone. I know it's a sensitive subject, but you guys literally... I couldn't. It's fine to think like your country does, but you need to always understand ''why'' and if the answer to this why is not actually caused by the society itself. It's a circle.
Example : Why can't your son were pink ? Because people will judge him. Why would they judge him though, it's a color.
Why can't you date a child ? Because it's wrong, they aren't mature enough to make decisions ? Why are they though ? Are you talking to a child the way you're talking to a friend ? Are they behaving like that everywhere else in the world, were they always like than in history ? Isn't it our fault ?
It's the zombie apocalypse and love knows no bondaries ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) . ( if I keep acting like I am joking they may not burn me to death )
I … morehave a lot to say about how I understand what people could find in Cluke and why I feel like the age gap doesn't matter as much in this context, still I don't want this thread to be closed wish is definitly what's going to happen if anyone starts a debate about this ''sensitive'' subject.
So yeah...for once, I'll try to keep it all for myself.

Because a grown man would be taking advantage of a child. A child isn't capable of making decisions that involve romance with an adult. A grown man wouldn't even feel romantic feelings for an 11 year old because it's not natural. A man won't feel attraction to a female until she at least reaches some form of physical maturity which by age 11 she hasn't.. He's most likely suffering from a control problem in which his only way to exert control is over a child.

Maybe, if she was a bit older. As she gets more mature and thinks about things more, you'd think she would realize how the apocalypse had taken her childhood away from her. If Telltale were to make that a plot point, they might be able to work a first crush or something into it.
For one thing, I don't really like obsessing over the love lives of pre-teens. Especially someone like me, who is in their 20s, something about that seems weird to me. But as I just entertain the idea of Clementine potentially having a romantic interest, I am definitely turned off by it.
I was fine playing along with romantic subplots with adults like Lee, Rodrik, Mira (lol, not for long), Bigby, and Rhys. As a child or preteen playable character I feel like people can get very weird with it, queue flashbacks of Clem/Lee and Cluke (though I'm sure the potential love interest would be around her age). Also, Clementine is a character I could never realistically see developing romantic feelings for anyone, partly because of all of the trust issues/survival's guilt she's endured - "People die because of me". To develop that close of a connection with someone in the middle of the apocolypse would take an extreme amount of trust that I feel would take at least a whole game to establish well enough to convince me. If she did find those feelings for someone, I would imagine she would treat the relationship like Beth used to in the show, being wary of getting too attached because she knows people can die at any time.
Then again, The Last of Us was able to was able to do an early teen zombie apocolypse romance realistically and tastefully with Ellie, so maybe it's doable, though it wasn't a determinate choice game either. I would just rather my Clem not concern herself with it at this stage in her life.
to be honest I don't mind it if it makes sense. i'll probably be like a protective big sister with my choices tho LOL. but if it makes sense and give us an option to refuse, why not? but I feel its too early, we have plot holes regarding the endings and its obvious that they will have a BIG time skip to tie all endings.. who knows? but just don't force t on us.
LOOOOL, I guess romance is not the right word.. I don't know how old she will be so that depends, and a harmless crush etc.. but not a full blown romance, too much xD plus its creepy. she's not even above 10 at this stage, or 11? idk. but i'm not a fan of this. too much to explore and experience, because I'm sure they'll go for a time skip to tie the endings?

Yes. And are all child the same though ? Are all 11 years a copy of each other and as mature as one another ? Or are they still human beings able to have differencies ?
I am not talking about any 11 years old child of our time. I have specified that in both America and Europe, it would be traumatising for a child to date an adult, because it's how it is where we live. I am talking about Clementine.
Clementine who had to kill her father figure at the end of the first game, Clementine of the second season and definitly not the first one, Clementine who is able to impose herself when most people around her are adults, Clementine who is mature enough to take important decisions for herself. It's a game about choices, still she is definitly mature for her age. You won't argue with me about that will you ?
''Because a grown man would be taking advantage of a child.''
Well, that's definitly not in character for Luke. He cared for her in a platonic way okay and she already had a crush on him. Why wouldn't he use this ''innocent crush'' to get I don't know, whatever you would want a 11 years old friend/sister like to give you.
Even if it was going beyond friendship, he woudn't do that, that's out of character for Luke, but out of character for Clementine as well. She is smart enough to avoid that. Again, she is not like any 11 years old child in our world.
Imagine there's some kind of crazy thing happening, and 11 years old Clementine happen to come in the world we are currently living in. Would she feel more connected with children running one after each other, being harsh on each other, and addicted to ridiculous fights for ridiculous reasons ? Or would she feel more at ease with grown ups because she is more mature ?
Or maybe even none of them ? Because she doesn't fit in.
I personnally think she would have a hard time dealing with people of her age, she'll be the mature one, she is gonna have to ''take care of them''. It's going to be way easier for her to take mature decision and she is going to hate adults to talk to her like she is 5 or something.
Yep.
'' A child isn't capable of making decisions that involve romance with an adult. ''
I wasn't at her age, and I wasn't one to fall for any guy being kind. Who told you Clementine wouldn't be ? That's understimating her character growth. She is very much able to use her position as a child to have what she wants. Come on...he had a discussion with > Carver < for a reason. She is not going to say yes for everything, she IS able to make decision that involve romance just like any kind of friendships she had.
If you tell me ''but what if she is madly in love ?!'' then it will be exactly like gullible teenagers/Adults that date people who have the same age than them.
You don't date someone who have the same age than you only because of their age, but because you get along, you think alike. Luke is not the most mature person I know ( wouldn't say he is childish ) when Clementine is more than likely to be just as mature as him way before 27. Maybe even in the next game, even though we won't be playing as her.
'' A man won't feel attraction to a female until she at least reaches some form of physical maturity which by age 11 she hasn't..''
That's something you just made up. A man or a woman is definitly able to be sexually attracted to a child. It's called pedophilia. Some children get sexually abused because those adults are indeed attracted to them. It's a bit condescendant to say they aren't, because both you and I are probably not in their head or in this situation to say they aren't. I am pretty sure they don't do it just for fun though.
''He's most likely suffering from a control problem in which his only way to exert control is over a child.''
Yep. I agree it can be the problem for many of them ( I read about it ). Still it has no link with Clementine and Luke... because it doesn't fit their characters. Luke hooked up with Jane because he probably was alright with an independant women, he doesn't really have to have control over. So I have hard time imagining him wanting to have control over Clementine ( control he couldn't even be able to have ), JUST BECAUSE he is 27 and she is 11.
What you are saying doesn't apply on them, it is caused by the setting the children has grew in, and since the setting is different the norms are naturally different. If Cluke was a thing, it would be really surprising that it wouldn't work for the reason you said. It's more because people around wouldn't accept that, Luke himself is probably going to try to get any romantic feeling away ( because like us, he is born in a society where it's not right ), or just because one of them would die. Their problem isn't relationship really, it's mainly death.

If she is 13 they have to bring puberty into it or it would be stupid, and crushes are a part of that.
It would make sense that she'd start to have feelings for boys (or girls), regardless of an apocalypse. Because biology
But please, if this needs be the case, don't railroad us down this route, make it optional. Fictional teen romances aren't everyone's cup of tea

I think Clem's got more important things to worry about than a love interest at the moment.
EDIT: I actually find it hilarious that people in this thread say "Lee probably won't approve" like for some reason it makes me giggle.
Nope I think she will be better without it plus why would a 13 yr old have romance
to be honest I don't mind it if it makes sense. i'll probably be like a protective big sister with my choices tho LOL. but if it makes sense and give us an option to refuse, why not? but I feel its too early, we have plot holes regarding the endings and its obvious that they will have a BIG time skip to tie all endings.. who knows? but just don't force t on us.
LOOOOL, I guess romance is not the right word.. I don't know how old she will be so that depends, and a harmless crush etc.. but not a full blown romance, too much xD plus its creepy. she's not even above 10 at this stage, or 11? idk. but i'm not a fan of this. too much to explore and experience, because I'm sure they'll go for a time skip to tie the endings?
agree, plus it awkward even more for us to make those choices, if its even us who'll play as her in S3
she was 11 in season 2, krikman said s3 would be taking place on the same timeline as the comics i.e 3 yrs time skip = 14 yrs ( I wrote wrong).
looks the same to me lol, early teens. I feel we should play another person in season 3, maybe having 2 protag just like what tales achieved.
Exactly, it's essentially paedophilia.
I totally agree with this!
I will never get over what happened between Omid and Christa and I won't let that happen to Clem.
Oh my god, what have I become!!! I sound like a bad parent!!!
''Because a grown man would be taking advantage of a child. ''
I say yes just because the majority says no.
I'm just going to let it go. I'm guessing you're still pretty young, and not yet an adult. When you're older you will understand.
