  • Alpha, Rest In Peace

I am seriously way beyond done with Negan now—the immoral, murderous, narcissistic, condescending, assholish, tyrannical, childish, lame-as-fuck comedian, traitor, and demential leader.

My hatred for any given character in any given piece of fiction has never been as strong as it is right now. I dislike Beta for stabbing Aaron, but I can't wait to see him cut Negan's arms in little pieces and then heave them up his asshole. Maybe bring our old friend Michonne and take our one of his eyes, then feed it to him. His big, awesome dick can be bitten by the severed head of a walker, and they could then skin whatever remains, and toss it into a pool of lemon juice. Leave him to rot there. Forever. But not without amputating his legs firsts.

  • And also, Kirkman, you are lame and predictable.

  • What are your thoughts on it, @IronWoodLover?

I feel... worried. I hope that Rick is smart enough to not trust this psycho just because he brings him Alpha's head. Negan is dangerous the fact that I can't figure out what motivates him anymore is scary. Dies he really want to be Rick's friend (I doubt it)? Does he want to be the Saviors leader again? Or maybe he just wants to star a war because he's evil. I don't know and that worries me a lot.

I don't feel 'happy' for Alpha dying. How could such a smart person let her guard down so easily? She had potential to be the brand new vilain of the series... But I guess that'll be Beta now (that also has his potential...)

And this will surely begin a war with the Whisperers... The thing that Rick was trying to avoid. -.- I'm assuming that Beta will take control now.

I never liked Negan's character. He's the typical evil guy (or immoral as you would say) who does evil stuff for the sake of it. I don't find his childish attitude and dirty jokes funny as many other readers do, but he's surely unpredictable (at least to me).

  • Well...So much for that couple.

  • Agreed, and on this occasion, I will completely say that he is evil.

Readers might have found him annoying, and a brat, and that is understandable, but what did Negan win by gutting Brandon, right after the kid helped him escape Alexandria? For me, that is a perfect example of evil. Negan didn't even get pleasure by doing so. It was just like freeing himself of some trouble, only that the trouble was responsible for his freedom. I virtually wouldn't give a crap if it was just a random survivor, like the Wolves and the man in the red hood.

  • Good riddance. Alpha was a shit character and an equally shit antagonist.

Now we can hopefully wrap this Whisperer arc up and move on to Rick's descent into villainy under Negan's tutelage.

  • Well Shit. Rick better be more careful now :/

You know, this is probably a good time to mention what I think about Alpha. I think she's faking it. That the whole 'Alpha' character is just an act to keep herself safe, both physically, and in some weird roundabout way, mentally as well. If she asserts her position as the pack leader through brutal shows of force, she doesn't really have to worry about anyone opposing her, or even considering it. Couple that with having a 7 foot giant of a man acting as the Beta, and even less people would want to mess with you. But this cold, ruthless character that has fully embraced basic animalistic instinct? That forfeited whatever was left of her humanity? That isn't who she really is. It's just an unorthodox way of coping with the world around her.

Stare into the abyss, and the abyss stares back, right? Her rationale is that if you stare into the abyss long enough, it will eventually stop staring back. You'll embrace the darkness in such a way that it stops having an effect on you. Obviously, she hasn't exactly nailed the last part, which is why she gave Lydia to Rick; it was a temporary break of character that she tried to play off as weeding out the weak, when in reality, she really was trying to leave her daughter somewhere where she could truly live. She only kills the Whisperer that catches her crying because she can't risk opposition to her status. I think there's various little cracks in her character where it's clear that underneath all the bravado, she's just a mother forced into shitty circumstances. Someone forced-- or convinced-- to be someone they aren't, hoping that eventually she'll be able to live with the brutality and depravity her character requires, rather than being forced to hide it away. I don't even think she believes anything of what she says, she only says what she says to play the role she feels obligated to play; the Alpha.

The thought's crossed my mind ever since she gave away Lydia. I guess we'll just have to wait until the issue is out to see if any of that is right or not. I mean, I figure since she's dying, we'll probably find something out about her before she croaks, right?

  • And just a few weeks ago you were praising him and his team :p

And also, Kirkman, you are lame and predictable.

  • Well shit. I actually wasn't expecting that. I NEED TO GET MY HANDS ON THIS.

  • That is a fresh and poetic point of view on her character.

It also makes sense, in a way, with all the little clues here and there. I am not entirely sure what I thought about Alpha a couple of months ago—way to be consistent—but, if I recall correctly, I discussed with somebody why she did not behead twelve random residents just to cause distress among the communities. It was an attempt to prevent a war.

I also believe that Alpha allowed Lydia to go with a Rick at the precise time. Had it been a little earlier, and she would risk that the communities would attack her daughter, since she would already be known by many. Had it been a little later, and Rick possibly would've refused, since Ezekiel and Rosita and Olivia would have been killed beforehand.

What comes after in the story?

    Something bad for both sides.

  • Well, seems Negan will take over The Whisperers now... I'm still not sure what his true intentions are. He probably wants everyone dead. Next to go will be Beta for sure. I'm still thinking it'll be Carl the one to end Negan once and for all, especially when he finds out what he did to his mother-in-law. XD

  • I didn't know that they would take this route. I've honestly lost count on how many people predicted that Negan would be murdering Alpha and going back to Rick.

  • I guess Negan became the new head of the Whisperers....

But for real though, this threw me off but I should have known. This is Negan after all....

  • I was hoping the bitch would bite it but this is completely unexpected. Who the fuck knows what's going through Negan's head. Guy is unpredictable I don't know if this means he's an anti hero of some sort but maybe this may be a new type of change for his character

  • God they're milking negan's character so much.

  • Don't know what to make of this... seems like a risky move in terms of appeasing an audience and developing Negan's character considering he's now tethering the fine line between genuinely unpredictable and the stereotypical insane villain

  • Good riddance. Let's hope they wrap up the Whisperer arc and move on

  • You sound a bit too invested in the series for it to really be the work of "lame and predictable" people.

  • I completely agree. Her acting skills were alright but everyone knew how she felt, holding back tears those two times.

My reaction: "FUUUUUCK OH MY FUCKING GOD- NO WAY! DAAAAAAMN!"

Final thoughts: I knew Alpha didn't have it in her. I knew the whole "I'm strong enough to shit on societal beliefs and set myself back to early human instincts to become the primitive queen of the apocalypse" bullshit was all an act. You're not fooling anyone, Alpha. And I especially didn't fear you for killing a handful of likeable characters and placing their heads on pikes (God rest their souls) just because you managed to get the drop on them. So the fuck what? With that 7 foot monster Beta protecting you and all, it's no surprise that none of your fellow whisperers even wanted to challenge you for the Alpha spot. My friends and I would repeatedly question why Beta didn't just kill her and take the spot for himself. He would have been a way more believable villain, considering the fact that Mr. Jolly Green Giant over here has a whole foot on Negan and practically has his own zipcode. "Gneeehhh I promise I'll never challenge you, Beta." Right, cause that submissive attitude is the main thing that has 100% made sure you've survived 4 years into the fall of humanity. What the fuck ever, big guy. Whatever you saaaay.

  • Now I guess Beta's in charge. Shit's gonna hit the fan pretty soon...

After reading the comments here I think I will be the only one that really liked what Negan did there. He didnt let that woman get raped and defended her, even if this could have meant his death. And he disagreed with their ways and talked with Alpha about it. He probably realised that Alpha wont change her ways, even if she doesnt like them. But nonetheless I didnt expected that he would kill her.

It sounds like he wants to return to Rick. To be honest I would really like if they work together to fight the Whisperers and if Negan "earns" a place at Ricks side. But the problem is you never really know what Negan is gonna do next, so it is probably wise to not trust him. But I still think he respects Rick.

  • I liked what he did too, it was amazing, but Rick should seriously just kill the guy. Of course he won't, because he's Rick Grimes, the man above everything else who's gonna soon get rekt by hundreds of whispering freaks because his son had to obsess himself over a girl who gives him what apparently Sophia can't give.

I just hope they will give show Rick Grimes a real reason to spare Negans life. One theory I would really like is that Morgan builded that prison so they dont have to kill every "enemie" and dies later at the hands of Negan. Rick later spares Negans life and locks him in that prison to honor his friend. I mean imho that would be a better reason than: "We are better than him, so we dont kill him".

But I dont think comic Rick will kill Negan. I have a feeling that Carl will kill him someday far in the future, maybe after Negan killed his father.

I just finished reading the issue and was not expecting that to happen, i''m not sure how i feel about her death as i was expecting her and Negan to be a team for a while (and also be in some sort of relationship) and attack Rick together.

Now that Negan has successfully challenged Alpha he will obviously become the new leader so it will be interesting to see where things go from here.

  • When did I say that the team is lame and predictable? You seem to be misinterpreting what I've said. I exclusively mentioned Kirkman because he is the one who makes the decision about anything regarding the narrative. Nothing about anyone else.

In my opinion, he is lame, because this feels like fan service in favor of those whose favorite character is Negan, and he is predictable, since a lot of people called that Negan betraying Alpha and going back to Rick would happen, all around the internet, while only a few said that he would actually stick with Alpha and Beta.

And I am invested a lot on this series. Otherwise, this wouldn't have even bothered me.

Well, so much for that scary ship.

Then again, I had a feeling she was going to die. That art cover I saw before of them looked kinda of 'I'm dead.'

  • That was just perfect, alphas was a horrific character and person, glad shes gone.

  • Yeah, It would be way less forced than the whole "we don't kill cuz we gud" thing in the comic. And yes, it feels kind of right for Carl to kill Negan, it'd the first good thing he does since he patched up his father back in Issue 49, or 50, can't tell for sure.

  • Most people aren't, people on here are the only ones ive seen. Im not sure why people are upset that the leader of these skin wearing rapist freaks is dead.

  • At the end of the day, Negan still got head

  • Exactly, like why would anyone be angry that she died??? Lmao. Him killing her just makes him better. She got the same death that she did on some of Rick's people as well, that's karma. After reading the issue I can see why Negan did that. Negan isn't really a good or bad guy, he's just... Negan. He does what he thinks he has to do to survive. He's really not that much different from Rick if you think about it.
