Carlos...worst father ever...
Seriously, even if Sarah had issues...he should have taught her how to survive...her death is his fault.

He had to be axed off to make way for Kenny's 'fatherly' plot line to be explored in the abhorrent mess of an episode No Going Back.
There can't be two devote fathers trying to raise a helpless child in the season.
She died from refusing to leave the trailer park home. The girl had PTSD and completely shut down. Some people can't handle stressful situations and they freak out, Carlos knew this about his daughter. He even says it himself "she will cease to function". A mental disorder is kinda hard to treat in the ZA don't ya think? So Carlos just sheltered her from all the horrible shit in the big bad world. Not everyone can be as awesome as Clementine or we would have little kids running around everywhere in the world of TWD. Her other death was just Sarah being in the wrong place at the wrong time (don't want to hear about the writing blah blah).
I don't consider him to be that bad of a father. Now, before everyone gets out the tomatoes, give me a second to finish. The situation with Sarah...well, it wasn't ideal. She was mentally ill, and if you combine that with the apocalypse and all of its emotional trauma, then that's not a very good mix. Carlos really did try to do what he thought was best for her, but his ideas were a little off. She wasn't someone that you could force into different situations, and you couldn't be too hard on her. He should've struck a better balance, but choosing to shelter her wasn't in of itself a bad move. The extent at which he sheltered her, however, would cause nothing but trouble down the line. He did try his best, and he seemed to have her best intentions in mind. His plan just wasn't ideal.
I can see both sides of it, both the side that says Sarah was way too sheltered and the side saying that she couldn't change so Carlos was just sheltering her.
Honestly they were being hunted by another group and he should have taught her basic survival skills, and tell her that she might have to fend for herself oneday. I don't know, I feel bad for both Sarah and Carlos.
id say kenny was the worst father ever. he didnt managed to keep both his wife and son alive.
Not only carlos carlos and kenny are the worst fathers bro
Kenny is a bad example to a father he lived the most of his life a way from his famliy to enjoy living on his own and more that his acting way not a way that act a famliy man the famliy man keep the best example of the level head and the moral person not a crazy person and a rude killer he cant keep his promesis he couldn't even keep his famliy a live he couldn't even save his girlfriend and more than that he blamed some one tryed to do i am just sad that he was duck's father you deserved better duck you deserved better
Carlos the worst too i told him you girl needs to grow the fuck up (YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT MY GIRL NEED) fuck.you like you do you pussy bitch sorry sarah you deserved better you deserved better
I knew it!
Perhaps he should've taught her survival skills, but the issue lies deeper.
Sarah appears to suffer of some sort of anxiety disorder combined with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Exposing her to challenging situations would in turn prove to be dangerous for the entire group. She would either…
Have a panic attack, hyperventilate and move frantically. Three examples are when Carver arrived at the cabin, when Carver tortured her father, and after Carlos was devoured. This would attract walkers through sound and movement.
Become dissociative and paralyzed. Three examples are after Carlos slapped her at Howe's Hardware, when she is with Luke at the trailer park, and the majority of her determinant participation in the rest of "Amid The Ruins." This would force other group members to stay with her and put themselves in danger.
So, you see, sheltering Sarah might not have been the best outcome thinking long-term, but it ensured that her and the rest of her group would not be put at risk unnecessarily. Carlos knew what he was talking about in "All That Remains." It just took a couple of dissociations until she died; exposing her to more of these stressful situations would only have caused her to perish earlier.
Oh what, did someone finally get sick of spammin Kenny threads and decided "Sey, how about that Carlos? What a guy!"
On that note:
[Sorry, that's all I got for now.]
Somehow, no matter the thread, that name always seems to pop up...
I mean, I wouldn't say he was a bad father, really. Sure, his decision to shield Sarah from the reality of the world wasn't the best decision and there's no doubt he should have taught her something about basic survival, but his reasons for doing so, trying to protect his daughter from being hurt, damaged and traumatized from the harshness of the apocalypse, thus maintaining some form of her innocence, was done out of genuine love for Sarah. It was unrealistic, of course, but the intentions behind sheltering her do show that Carlos wasn't a bad father, just one who didn't have the benefit of someone like Chuck to get him to wake up.
EDIT: Just misspelt something.
I'd argue that the raising a helpless child plot was exclusive to Kenny, I saw Carlos' plot as mostly preventing Sarah from being able to help herself by making her rely on him.
First of all: Pointless thread. You made it because you were bored or something?
Second of all: He's not the "Worst Father Ever", a bad father is a father that doesn't love his child, that hurts them on purpose, a bad father is a father that enjoys watching his children suffering. Carlos is not a bad father, he's a good father that didn't know what to do. He did what he tought was the right thing, and he made a mistake. That doesn't make him the "Worst Father Ever", don't you think?
It's a recurring nightmare.
You know what, the first two episodes do seem to imply that that's exactly what's happening.
Lmao, how'd Kenny become a talking point on the thread so quickly? Anyway it seems a little harsh to say he's the worst father ever. Maybe he could have tried harder, taught Sarah to shoot and given her a gun. Then again he probably knew Sarah's limitations better than anyone in the group. Still though he must have done well to keep her alive for that long.
Most people dont go online and chat about video games when they have shit to get done so yeah they probably were, isnt that why we're all here anyway.
He should have done a better job and I think as a doctor it was his duty to pass on his knowledge. People like to point out that sarah had some sort of mental problems I dont think she did she was just a over sheltered weirdo in my opinion probably home schooled and molly coddled, a real home grown snowflake.
I shall point out that if Chuck hadn't gotten Lee to wake up, he would've done the same thing with Clementine. Carlos wasn't a bad father.
Yeah, that was sorta the vibe I got as well. The mental problems they're referring to seem to be her anxiety issues and eventual PTSD, at least as far as I been told.
Apparently, being awkward, ignorant, and emotional automatically equals mental problems.
I don't think her death is his fault, since she really didn't break down until he became walker chow. However, I do think sheltering her was a terrible decision, and he should have at least taught her to take care of herself instead of shielding her from everything.
Her death is Petty's fault...
Plus we could gather evidence from how Sarah knows that she needs to learn how to defend herself and how Carlos gets angry at Clementine if she tries to tell him that she needs to know the reality of the world.
Exactly. I really thought that was gonna be one of the key aspects of her character arc going forward, too. The following episodes did seem to be making an effort of setting her up for something, but you know how that went.
Sarah was definitely my favorite Cabin Group member for numerous reasons, but the sheer potential for character development, her apparent role as a shadow archetype to Clementine, the bizarre complexity/depth of her character establishment, and the wild theories she encouraged [still to be elaborated on eventually] were some of the most notable ones.
...
please stop.
!?
Why? Whats your problem, you were the one that was unnecessarily rude about the thread no one forced you to comment on it.
Yes, yes I was and now I wanna cry TT_TT
IKR, he was a pretty irresponsible person. You'd think by how many years the apocalypse has lasted, you'd be teaching your children to use a gun!
Clementine technically fathered Sarah better than the whole cabin group combined.
She even wants to as seeing from the choice you get in episode 2 ((teaching her how to use a gun)) althought her knowing how to use a gun doesnt make her able to cope with the world.
i feel like she could have learnt to if she had been properly taught to deal with situations like that.
I want to know where they were originally going to go with Sarah's character, I'm interested at whether or not she was intended to die regardless.
That's true but in her defense, she's never given the chance to cope or even the chance to use a gun.
To be fair, the rude critique made by @RavenSnowstorm is not entirely unjustified. The thread has a poor description, which can understandably lead some to the conclusion that it was made just for the sake of it.
Her anxiety appears to be high enough to be considered a disorder. Nobody has said that she has mental problems or is sick in the head, as far as I've seen.
Even though she lasted several months with them at the cabin group, whereas she died on the day that Clementine started fathering her? Given, that was not her responsability, but there is nothing that shows that she was a better parental figure than Carlos.
...thanks...
I want to apologize to @Kennyshouladiedins1 for being such a little shit about this thread.
All threads are made for the sake of it
Most are created for the sake of discussion.
NVM, I thought you were calling the OP a little shit.
