  • WHAT IS THE POINT OF REPLYING TO SOMEONE IF THEY DON'T GET A NOTIFICATION? God, I hate this piece of shit.

  • This looks really weird for an upgrade! :|

  • It's not really outdated. The "new" Bethesda(arguably, with Rockstar, as the biggest game developer out there) forum looks almost exactly like this.

You got a point there, though perhaps I should have worded my issue a bit better, considering outdated implies something that is no longer in use. There are current forums using this system, yes, but that doesn't make it any less old. Inefficient might be a better term. It remains notably ineffective to handle conversations the other style has been able to handle with ease, it allows for less variety in discussions and is ultimately more confusing than the other one. And this comes from someone who has taken his first forum steps in a forum with a linear style. Even then, they felt significantly different and better from the bleaker design we face here, which is only further adding to the confusion.

No offense, but it seems the arguments in favour of the linear style all narrow down to "It used to be this way before", with the improvements brought by the other style (shall we call it reddit style? that sounds so dismissive) completely disregarded and the issues of the linear style all handwaved away by claiming people just have to get used to it.

There’s no notification for that anymore

    How about:
Now you don't have to scroll back 5 pages every day or so to see all the new posts. Everything is at the bottom. There's no real difference between replying directly under someone and quoting them.
That's what I really like about this style.

This! And also, if we delete a post, it's responses are no longer gone. This allows mods to hone in specifically on offending posts without other posts being caught in the crossfire.

And also, mods can now afford to be more lenient in areas because of this change since certain threads are now able to be better moderated. Shipping threads might be coming back sooner than later.

  • It feels strange as I was used to the old layout. However I do think that it is good and that it will eventually be very easy to navigate. I like the Inbox feature that is pretty useful. Thank you!! Have a wondeful day everyone!!

  • Shipping threads might be coming back sooner than later.

Which also is negative. Shipping threads are horrid on so many levels no matter if it is younger people or older people who comments ships.

I really don't want to be a downer (well, right now I do actually, because I usually dom't get to be), but what is the positive in Shipping threads?

Now this is one straight bullshit!!!

  • Could be worse. Some forum softwares have a feature of not allowing duplicate posts to prevent spam. What happens then is you not being able to post simple replies like "that's great!" in a megathread. THAT is bullshit.

  • Yep, that (along with the reply system) is the worst part of this update. Those pictures caused enough scarring, I'd prefer not to suffer through that again.

All my messages that were spammed down are back. And to leave the conversation I have to go to the bottom of the message. Great now I have to go through porn again.

I get that you don't like the current reply system, but making tons of posts in a short time to make the new reply system look bad isn't helping - it's just spamming the thread.

I already said that the web team is looking into a solution, so let's slow down with the posting please. You are welcome to give feedback or discuss the update, but let's keep it constructive instead of passive aggressive.

  • That's because it's a downgrade.

The same thing happened with Telltale revamped the forums with Reddit style comments in 2013. People will adapt overtime.

I didn't say anything about this being anyone's fault. I asked that you post constructive feedback instead of posting filler content to show the new reply system in a bad light.

  • I'll let you in on a little history. In 2013, Telltale let a remarkably high number of forum users walk out because of the "reddit" update. A handful of people having a hissy fit won't create any more of an impact. Asking for subtle changes is one thing, but... there's "No Going Back".

People can't adapt if they leave and don't come back. And honestly, if the site is going to be this much of a hassle and this headache inducing, then so long.

I asked that you post constructive feedback instead of posting filler content to show the new reply system in a bad light.

It's easy to paint in a bad light when it's as screwed up as this. You don't even have to try to do so. All I'm doing is replying to comments, as all members do, it's not my fault Telltale's format makes it look this bad. Maybe if Telltale put more time into thinking this stuff through, we wouldn't be having these issues.

The forums already have a guideline about double posting, even back on the old Reddit style of comments. You are deliberately posting a lot in short time to passive aggressively make the reply system look bad; you are not just innocently "replying to comments as all members do"

If you are concerned about replying to several people, quote multiple posts in one response or wait until others have already posted.

  • But Blind, you can see how disadvantageous this is, can you not. Hate my commenting all you want, but it made the problems quite evident. You may have hated the old Reddit style, but you can't deny it made replying much simpler, easier, and made it look more organized. Everyone knew who they were replying to or what was going on. You can't do that on this system without quoting the person. It may not be such a huge thing to ask, the issue is that I shouldn't have to do so, why create more hassle, even if its tiny, for the forum users. What if it's a new member who doesn't know how the forum system works and starts replying away to people, are you really going to hold him/her accountable for "spamming" the thread with comment after comment when he/she doesn't know any better. You saw the example one of the other members posted above, that is how this new layout will confuse people, not someone commenting a few times.

  • i dont like the linear comments thing its so confusing and as my phone is so slow i have to keep waiting ages for the other commebts to load when i select the in reply to button

  • i want my likes back

    Likes are gone

  • Blind, give me one good reason why we shouldn't criticize a lot about the reply system of this new update. What is the point of replying to someone if they just don't get notifications? What if someone replies to one of our comments that were posted a long time ago? We can't check a thread just to see if someone replied to our comments because it's a waste of time. Don't you remember how well this community was going in 2015? Name someone who asked for this unnecessary update cause I don't see anyone.

  • Criticize the reply system all you want - I never said you weren't allowed to. I even directly encouraged you guys to give feedback!

I was asking that you keep criticism constructive and that you don't passive aggressively spam the thread.

I'm not sure how I feel about this...

    • Even though the yellow line means someone is replying to another comment, it can still be easily forgotten and thought of as a new comment. At least automatically quote comments people are replying to.
    • Now that every single game is sectioned into it's own sub-forum that we have to choose from, we can't just slide down to see the new topics for our favorite games, we'll have to open one new window after another.
    • I hope no one accidentally flags a comment trying to like it.
    • Also 'The Walking Dead' section isn't showing up with a picture for me.
    • R.I.P. Likes
It looks neat, that's for sure, but I'm not sure it'll function that great, at least not right away, what was wrong with the old design?

No, I was replying to Blind.

If you look at the bottom right, you can see who everyone's replying to.

If you click Flag, a big pop up menu appears, requiring you to type an explanation before the post gets Flagged. If you accidentally click Flag, just exit the menu.
