RATE TWD: Michonne EP 2 - Give No Shelter (SPOILER-FREE)

So, The episode seemed to have just come out in Australia and I always make these type of threads the day an episode releases, so here we go. How was episode 2 despite what seems to be the much shorter length (68 minutes based on one playthrough uploaded). I was excited but now I'm a bit worried. Hopefully some people can reassure me, it's still a good episode.

    Jesus really? Thats appulingly short

hopefully this guy rushed through his uploads and missed a part, but I have to agree if it's true, that's pretty disappointing length even for a walking dead episode.

Feel free to check if this guy is bullshitting.

  • They're out already? Hell yes! Looking forward to watching them today as soon as possible! I'm regretting not calling sick for school.

  • again tales and got were 2 hours. stop assuming all thier games are the same length of season 2.

68 minutes?! Bugger me with a bloody spear.... come on TTG.... it's a THREE part series worth $15.... give us more than 3-4 hours total....

  • Jeez, I really hope that this is just for Michonne and that 1 hour episodes don't become the norm for future series. Yikes.

  • Even if they did rush their play through, that's only just touching 90 mins for a thorough play through. This is what the delay got us? 68 measly minutes? Poor... Very poor.

  • Wait...68 minutes?

Nah, I can live with that. About the trailer, it was awesome. 5 smiley faces out of 5.

I've heard from someone who did play the episode say that Michonne was only 68 minutes long as well, so I don't think he rushed.

  • If my maths is right, the first episode was roughly 80 minutes in length, and given how the second is stated to be finished in 68 minutes, then the final episode will 56 minutes long.

I kid, of course. I don't really want to pass any judgement until I've seen Episode 2 for myself first.

For what it is I'd say like a 6. It's better than S2 so far in writing and character development but way too short to be considered high quality dlc content

  • 9/10 from me

  • Come one, people. Think about how a story flows. This episode was short, yet is was a good episode. The story that was needed to be told was told at a reasonable pace. When you actually play/watch, you can see why the story stopped where it did. Going any further would have spoiled what is to come. It's not the most mind blowing episode, but I'd say it is within the standard of quality you would expect from TellTale.

The only thing worse than rushing a story is dragging it out so that the climax is rendered anticlimactic. For this episode, there was literally no where you could have extended the story. Michonne is on the chase (that's not a spoiler). The episode has to be short. If it went on any longer, it would seem like Michonne was forgetting the fact that she is trying to escape. 60 minute episodes are fine if it fits the story.

Let's not judge an episode purely by it's length. Let's also realize that TellTale is pushing their games to be more like a tv show. The hubs and puzzles are starting to become less and less. As such, the games will be shorter. That doesn't mean TellTale doesn't care about their games, it's just a natural consequence. More dialogue + less button pressing = shorter TellTale experience. Let's not be so crass, people.

  • so with out spoiling anything. does this episode feel like a full on episode unlike the first one whitch to me felt like it was only half of one?

  • Well, after watching the entire episode myself I can confirm that it is shorter than the first episode, as I have watched a video that was 64 minutes long.

Ideally, both episodes could easily be published all into one for a two hour experience and still make room for two more episodes as a three part series.

Despite the short length, I liked it. Unlike, say, episode 2 of Minecraft which had a similar length, this episode feels much more complete, and feels like there's more meat to it overall. A lot of shit happens in that hour of gameplay, to put it lightly. I'd try to mention good bits of it, but obviously due to the run time, just about everything worth mentioning is a spoiler, or would be giving away too much. I think the trailer sums up the episode quite well: shit's getting fucked left and right.

Now I'm going to reserve judgement until I actually play it myself, but from what I saw as of now? 8/10, subject to change.

  • Still don't change the fact, that we got way less for the Same Price.

  • Ehh... It's hard to describe. I've been view these episode more as 3 parts to one mega episode. Whereas I see the regular games as multiple episodes to a large story arc, I see the Michonne series as a 3 part mega-episode if that makes sense. I say that the episode is fine because of where they let off. If it wasn't for the last major scene, I would have felt that there wasn't enough story. The last bit sealed off this part of the story. I know this isn't super specific, sorry.

  • It's a Little Strange. It could Be, Because they only have a limited Time for the Story, since it plays in the Comics. I Really Hope, that this wont Be Standard for Telltale. Don't Do it!

  • 68 minutes? Are you kidding me? -_-

  • The writing was off again this episode, the generic villain Randall, when getting interogated painfully, brings up his abusive father, because, reasons. Says some cliche line about killing, and how the world is. A quote we probably hear in every episode of the walking dead. I dunno why, but this whole season just isn't hitting the right strides.

  • Eh i liked it but thats just me

  • 8 out of 10 boats on fire.

This episode was just as good as the premiere. Although it was just an hour long, it gets to the point without stretching anything—in a good way—and propels the story forward. My only fear is whether they'll have enough time in the finale to conclude the story in a good way, to be honest. But the episode itself was pretty good.

There are new walker models, and the scenery is just great (and there's fire)! There were some choppy transitions that might ruin a couple of surprises, but most of the animations are fluid.

We finally meet John, and also the woman in the episode banner. There are some questions left unanswered.

    There are new walker models

I have to say that I am really impressed with all the pushes they've made in terms of zombie models. We've seen more new zombie models in these two episodes alone than we have in the entirety of the first two seasons.

  • I can't recognize myself after that last scene.

The episode left me satisfied, quality is way beter than quantity. The fact that it was 1 hour long shouldn't really interfere with your opinion on the episode.

    8/10

    • In terms of choices the episode tailors itself but the 1st episode doesn't have that much impact. +/-
    • The fact that you have to follow other character's stupid ideas is a con. -
    • It's a bit frustrating that you're forced to do some things that you don't want to do. -
    • Beware, the episode (depending on your choices I think) can be really gory. +
    • The best thing about this episode is the story. Believe it or not, we get character development. +
    • They also added some backstory to the current characters which was nice c: +
    • There was no puzzles, that'll always be a pro for me. +
    • Hard (as hell) choices. +
    • There was shock (I got really shocked at least). You can argue that it was only for shock value but if that hadn't happened the last choice would be realy easy to make. +
    • The last scene. +++++
  • You made me so hyped with the "last scene" part.

Ah, the hour of download won't come fast enough...

Is there an intro sequence like the last episode?

  • Please don't defend the length. Telltale should Be more Consistent on the length. The Problem on this mini Series is, that Telltale could've done either Fewer Episodes or Short episodes. But They did Both. Which is Pretty shitty imo. We pay 5$ for 60-90min Of actual Gameplay for Michonne while we Paid 5$ for 90-120min of actual gameplay for Borderlands or GoT. how is that fair? And we shouldn't consider the length into our opinion? So Telltale gets a free pass? Well Do it, If you want Season 3 to have 60min Episodes.

I can't recognize myself after that last scene. The episode left me satisfied, quality is way beter than quantity. The fact that it was 1

    1. This is the internet. It's full of opinions. Relax.
    2. Just because this mini-series has one 60 minute episode doesn't mean that all future TellTale The Walking Dead episodes will follow suit. That is highly illogical.
    3. Just because you don't think a 60 minute game equates to a $5 purchase does not mean someone else cannot have a polar opposite feeling. Refer to point one.
    4. No one forced you to pre-order the season. You made a choice and took those risks. TellTale isn't going to change it's tactics because only a circle of people dislike it. And before we even mention the "majority" of TWD fans opinions on this one site, please to an official in depth study of the number of people who play vs. the number of TWD forum users and those varying opinions. Once again, refer to point 1.
    5. Before you say "I can voice my opinion," yes you can. The issue is telling other fans to, and I quote, "...don't defend the length." Like I said, point 1.

I'd rather pay 10$ to a 1 hour quality episode than pay 5$ to a 2 hour low quality episode. If you think otherwise that's your problem, you're the one worried about the lenght.

As I said the episode left me satisfied and that's all that matters to me. Quantity will never affect my judgement.

$5 for an hour-long episode that was still enjoyable is very, very low on my list of "stupid shit I can buy for $5"

I mean, think about it for a minute. You could have spent that $5 on something much stupider. Or on something you regret, like buying a burrito that leaves you camped out in the bathroom for the next 2 hours, filling you with a sense of self-loathing and inadequacy for the rest of the night

I'd rather pay 10$ to a 1 hour quality episode than pay 5$ to a 2 hour low quality episode. If you think otherwise that's your problem, you'
