There was a promotion a month or two back. If you downloaded a certain trailer (a Red Dead Redemption one in this case) during a certain period then you were in with the chance of getting 400 MS points & a RDR theme. Got an e-mail last week telling me that I was one of 85,000 users to get a free token for a Red Dead Redemption theme and another e-mail saying I was one of 5,000 people to get 400 Microsoft points for free. If you don't know, Microsoft points are basically the currency of Xbox Live - it's them you use to buy arcade games, extra downloadable content and stuff like things for avatars and themes and such like.
Don't worry, you didn't miss out on much (apart from the 400 points obviously). The theme was a standard one & not a premium & is pretty weak to be honest, even for a standard. I changed back to my MI:SE theme pretty quickly.
Pardon my newbieness [as I haven't really kept up with the news on this game since its announcement], but how many XBLA points is this going to be [and is it out in Europe tomorrow too]?
I heard it's like 10 dollars or something, but that naturally means nothing to British me [and the game points system in general I've always thought rather unnecessary].

Note to self: Buy some rootbeer for tomorrow night.
Where do they sell rootbeer in Germany anyway? Because it's not the same as Malzbier (that was just the localization, because we don't have rootbeer here... usually...). And do they have Malzbier (malt beer) in the US?
But yeah, gotta get some Malzbier for the release...
In an attempt to be culture-neutral, Microsoft makes their points system equally awkward for anyone to know how much they are paying.
However, as the price of MS Points stays the same, and international currencies fluctuate, seems like there is the potential for exploitation there. (So long as you don't mind playing Monkey Island in Norwegian.)

I meant "Malzbier" actually (have been drinking it every time a new Monkey Island game came out) and now you totally confused me by telling me it's not the same as "root beer"... It was translated to "Malzbier" in the German versions of MI1 and MI2 though!?

If you can find it, look for A&W Root Beer in a grocery store that carries American sodas. That would be the most "true" bottled root beer you can get overseas, aside from walking into an A&W restaurant and getting it on tap.

My brother went to NY a few years ago, and finally confirmed to me that rootbeer is not the same. In fact, he didn't like the taste of it at all (something along the lines of Kräuterbier).
The translation to Malzbier was used because we don't have rootbeer here... so what would be a better translation? BTW, I love Malzbier

It's the only "beer" I drink, so... Who cares for "real" rootbeer as long as malt beer is strong enough to kill evil ghosts?
Looks like the store hasn't been updated yet... although I'm still at work and just totally basing this assumption on the lack of a store-update on the Playstation Blog...

Agreed, took one look at the theme and went back to the Sam & Max one. Chuffed about getting the 400 points though, hardly ever win anything. I didn't even know about the promotion until after I downloaded the trailer (it was one I wanted to watch anyway) but I guess that helped me to be one of the first 5,000 users to download it.
US PSN Store updates roughly around late Tuesday Nights here in the UK, Our EU/UK PSN Store updates around mid afternoon Wednesdays between 16:00 and 19:00.
Steam users can start pre-loading now. I'm crazy excited about this game now. 1 year on from the last new Monkey Island game, i get to play another (hey, it's new for me!). Plus, my TMI DVD will hopefully arrive tomorrow!

On the game library page, where it usually says "install", there is a "pre-load"-button instead. Just click on it. Of course, you have to purchase the game first.

Mine doesn't say that
EDIT: I restarted Steam. All is well. In about an hour and a half (according to Steam) it'll be finished. That's quick, and it's smaller than Monkey 1 ?!
If you've pre-purchased it on Steam just open your Steam games list and double-click on Monkey Island 2: Special Edition. The rest is pretty self-explanatory. Sounds like you're viewing the small version of the Steam games list. The large version has the Install/Preload button. You just double click on the title in small mode.
Also, you can view the Steam achievements list now.

800 MS points which is about £7.

Wow, now that's dirt cheap [I have enough points]!
Thanks for the headsup. :winslow:

How do I start pre-loading?

Now, off to bed. It'll be done downloading in the morning.
