As lead designer for the overall season, Chuck Jordan is primarily responsible for the new look, along with art director Pete Tsaykel, concept artist Ryan Jones and others. There was a lot of trial and error before we arrived at the final design, with a lot of people weighing in.
Like I said before, Episode 2 does have a vibe that's distinct from episode 1. The type of story we chose to tell helps to dictate the style. But that style still has to harmonize with the rest of the season. We're lucky to have a lot of really talented visual stylists in the company. I weighed in on the design, naturally, but the final result was beyond anything I had imagined.

Here's a little something from the pen of Ryan Jones...one of the characters you'll meet in "The Tomb of Sammun-Mak." A completely new character, unlike any you've encountered before in, say, season 2.
Haha, oh man, Monopoly Santa looks awesome. Are those christmas trees on his jacket? I wonder if it's a new character that's just using the old Santa model, or if it really is Santa after his midlife crisis.

I think it's probably related to "Sam with a moustache dressed in old clothes that may be Sam's ancestor or previous incarnation or parallel universe or something".

They look like Christmas trees to me. Maybe Santa realised that GIVING toys away is a terrible business model (especially when he pretty much has a monopoly on Christmas), so he started charging for them instead.

Not to mention smoking jacket dude aka funny-looking dude aka joeldee aka Papier Waite.
I see that Sam no longer allows us to make him shoot at random objects whenever we like. Now, this is a feature that I sort of miss because, in past seasons, I found that being able to shoot everywhere all willy-nilly was a great stress-reliever for when you were frustratingly stuck (or if you needed to relieve the anger that the Soda Poppers always brought). So, is there any possibility that you will allow us to make Sam once again shoot almost anything at any time? Or even include a mini-game or a puzzle that requires us to frantically fire our gun (a little like Whack-da-Rats I guess)?
+1
And where the hell does Santa fit in in Egypt. Or maybe it's not about Egypt at all, but the various timestyles as some suggested...
I'm sad, because my exams finish, most likely, a week or two after episode two is released. Good thing though, that means I have The Tomb of Sammun-mak, Puzzle Agent, Out From Boneville, The Great Cow Race and the first Doctor Who game to play after exams!
Alternate Jurgen? I'm afraid you've lost me. Where did you see him?
There was a vampire in the villain lineup. It could be an alternate Jurgen in the same way this Toy Tycoon is an alternate Santa and that it seems you play a different version of Sam and Max, as well.
I believe that Hell (After the $%! Poppers were killed), spit out it's employees and went back to being... Well, hell!
So my point is, when they were spat them all out; it completely changed their personalities. So now they're all evil villians bent on capturing The Devil's Toybox!
I'm not quite sure where in the world this episode is going with its storytelling, but it sounds absolutely brilliant based on the little we know.
A quick question:
You said there wasn't a prominent use of future vision in this episode, but what about a "past vision" type toy? Something that lets you play as these potential past versions of Sam & Max and whatnot. Or is this too sane enough to fit the crazy "left-field" play style you've mentioned?
First I thought, this whole 516vision and phone number thing would lead to 5/16, but then I realised it would be a sunday and they'd probably not be working.
Then again, I realised I'll have to work next sunday, so ...

He's on vacation, of course! Even pagan gods have to take a day off once and a while!:D
How do we know that's not a "Santa Impersonator"?
Not to mention they did mention 302 would bring back another "old" char...
It's a Toy Tycoon who looks like Santa and has Christmas trees on his jacket. Plus isn't Santa a Toy Tycoon, too?
Cool
No, we going to have Egyptians Tombs in this episode. The museum is not featured though...

I think I mentioned it in the Speculation Thread, and also he seems to bare litle resemblance to Santa there.
