...I'm pretty sure that's the first time I used that phrase or even implication on this forum if not most everywhere.

You'd have to have expressed anti-sequel sentiments somewhere before now for them to have already gotten irritating. Maybe it was under the guise of "Nintendo should stop making Mario and Zelda games and make a new IP".

In any case, some of us actually like the series and are excited about a new game, despite the fact that it seems to be leading to the entire overarching plotline of the series (YES THERE IS ONE) drawing to a close in the next game, Kingdom Hearts III. If you don't like it, you don't have to play it.
  • edited January 2011
Yes, I generally do like original one-shot titles better than big series. Generally. However with Kingdom Hearts, it's like seeing a crowd of children poke at a dancing bear long since dead from exhaustion.

It's the same with series such as Halo. I can't help but be emphatic with Bungie and how they've had to make the same game over and over again for the past 10 years.

But you know, whatever. You play whatever you want to. Just don't mind me being confused at how they manage to to spread that butter so far.

No poop, Poirot! If my butt could smell, it'd only smell the fresh aromatic scent of roses.

    Pardon me, you're disgusting. Barf.

So how do you feel about Assassin's Creed, a series that's been out for five years fewer than Kingdom Hearts and has one more game in it?
  • edited January 2011

Yeah, that's a pretty perfect fit for the game actually, style wise.

Also, I saw the NC's review of The Secret of NIMH 2 on his blip.tv account. Well, I'm 50/50 on it. It was a really rushed review, he literally breezed by parts that were completely awful, but at the same time he did make a lot of good points I hadn't thought of (mostly because he took the film more seriously than I did somehow) which I wouldn't have as the movie is so fricking stupid I wouldn't look for them.

Is it enough to survive? Some times you have to make compromises, have to let go of things, hold on to things. There comes a time where you look in the mirror and you wonder what parts of you are missing. You wonder what you've left go, eventually you might not even reconginze who you're realy look back at.

You put a smile on your face, spread it across, tell yourself to shapen up. But we know there's far more to the story than that. You're just making the best out of a new moment. At the end you count all your chips, see how the game was played, you've gambled your soul away. With each hand some part of you was spent!

Parts of you are spent, gone, like a night out at a sleezy poker game. You look at your deck of playing cards and realize that you don't have a hand to play in certain games anymore.

And the rest of the world just watches you as you bluff...and you play it's little games to a losing hand.

Relatively indifferent, considering there's only 3 games in the main series. Now that you've made me think about it, I feel the same stretched out feeling about Silent Hill as well. Which is sad, because I love the series to death.

Also, I'm sorry if I struck a nerve. You seem rather upset with me, and I don't mean to bear any ill.

I wish Hollywood would make a Turok movie that has an extremely intelligent plot, but no action. That way I can call it a "cerebral bore".

    I'll show myself out.

    Compromise?
"Always looking to the future this one is. Never his mind on where he is"
In the present there is no promising (no "declaration made about the future, about some act to be done or not done), and thus no need to feel violated by the arbitration of another.

You are the "past": the memories! It is you (the past) who projects the future forward from yourself (pro-mise from Latin pro [forth] + mittere [to send]).

The issue is when you (the past) fail the body: when ideals prevent timely action. Regret is an incorruptible force; if you have regret, it is the one part of you which will not fail to remain. There is physical desire in the moment, which quickly gets translated into psychological desire (which is an idea) and psychological fear (which is also an idea). Timely outward action in the present aborts the movement of the psyche.

Bias prevents timely action: do not let the left hand see what the right hand is doing

I wish Hollywood had made Citizen Kane an interesting film with a title character that I could actually care about, and a fanbase that didn't stoop to petty, personal insults if you don't join their fold, but I guess that's just a pipe dream.

+1. One of the few movies I couldn't even sit through. (see my Terror Toons review for a sense of the gravity of this statement)

Part of it is that I feel like I can't say one word about a series I enjoy on here without expecting to hear something from you or Dashing about it, and while I admit I've been talking a lot about it, it's just what I've been doing lately. Another part is that we've had this discussion about long-running series before and getting into it again is a bit exasperating. And the last part is that between these forums and life in general right now, I'm a little on edge anyway, so it probably doesn't take much to set me off right now and I apologize if I was taking it out on you a bit.

I'm still hoping for the day we don't get essentially all the KH1 worlds repackaged with a thin "plot" to it.

I've heard the 3DS title will have brand new worlds, but excuse me while I laugh. I'll believe it when I see it.

Plus there's so little emphasis on the Disney element anymore it seems. Seems like all the spotlight glory goes to Squeenix's OC Gary Stus/Mary Sues. Bah.

You just totally ignored Kingdom Hearts II and Birth by Sleep, didn't you? Hell, Radiant Garden, Olympus Coliseum, and Neverland were the only three worlds in Birth by Sleep that had made previous appearances, and two of the three were completely changed. Hell, they added in the goddamn Lost Boys, finally.

Also, 3D has already been confirmed not to be using any of the previously used Disney worlds at all, so Hunchback is just the first of multiple new Disney licenses in the game.

As for the original Squenix characters, there has to be some sort of story surrounding them. Maybe the series would've been better if the protagonist was Mickey, maybe not, but short of doing that, there was really nothing else they could've done. If they'd put a cardboard character in the protagonist's place and made the entire focus of the game be the Disney worlds, the game would've sucked because you wouldn't care about the character you were guiding through those worlds. On the opposite end of the spectrum, you've got 358/2 Days, where they focused entirely on the original protagonist and barely featured any Disney characters in the worlds you go to, and the game is the weakest in the series for it. The series only works when both the Disney and non-Disney elements are in balance, otherwise the story isn't as compelling as it should be.

While I've tried to ignore the stories of both (especially KH2), I'm very much aware that they had new-ish worlds.

But that still doesn't change the fact that in every other spin-off, we've gotten mostly the same old crap over and over again. I understand that might be more of a cost-saving measure than anything else, but still. I'm cautiously optimistic that they'll stay true to their 'no reused worlds' thing, but to add what I said above: I'll believe it when I see more of it.

I mean, ffs, they have Pixar (at the time KH was made, I think Pixar and Disney were on the almost-outs) and the Muppets at their disposal now. Pixar and Muppets! They could make a whole spin-off centered around Pixar-themed worlds.

And I wouldn't be terribly opposed to a Tron Legacy-ified Space Paranoids redo, but that's only because TL is so vastly different-looking from the original Tron that it could very well pass as a brand-new world altogether. (Plus Quorra or Kevin as the Disney assist character? I'd be okay with that)

Uhh, still no. Yes, Chain of Memories was largely a rehash of the Kingdom Hearts 1 storyline, and I'm not expecting Re:coded to be a whole lot different. Birth by Sleep was completely different and maintained the Squenix/Disney balance very nicely. And while Days may have failed for focusing too much on Roxas and the Organization and not enough on the Disney characters, that also means that its plot was completely removed from Kingdom Hearts 1. Your argument doesn't hold much water when you're complaining about something you've actively tried to ignore.

As for Pixar, I've been arguing that for the last two years. I want to see Andy's Room as a Kingdom Hearts world and toy forms for the trio. I've also been wanting a Tron Legacy version of Space Paranoids since a couple days after I saw the film, but I doubt they'd put it into a DS (or even 3DS) game, so I doubt we'll be seeing it in KH3D, but hopefully in KHIII, and hopefully with both Bruce Boxleitner and Jeff Bridges this time.

Eh, sure. I'm not looking to "hold any water" in an argument about Kingdom Hearts, of all things. I'm just no longer a hardcore fan of it like I was around the time of the first game, but I keep tabs on it for my younger brother's sake (the kid doesn't care about the plots all that much, but that's autism for ya' I suppose).

And honestly? The real reason why I've tried to ignore KH2 is because of Organization 13's fanbase. Once you have seen the horrors, you can never unsee them. *violently shudders*

I've been rooting for Pixar since the first game. While p. much every movie has potential (well, save for UP. I don't think that needs to be touched in this case, except maybe make Dug or Kevin summons) I honestly think the daycare from TS3 would be perfect for a KH world. Sure, it'd pretty much have to be a loose retelling of Toy Story 3 in order for a lot of things to work (such as Lotso, Big Baby and Ken being the antagonists/bosses), but I wouldn't care in that case. And I just want Ken to lampshade or comment on the outfits the Squenix characters wear, lmao.

I try to make it a policy of ignoring annoying fanbases, or at least making a mental separation between the fanbase and the source material, rather than ignore source material over it. Organization XIII fanartists, fanfic writers, and cosplayers annoy me just as much as the next guy, but I don't hold it against the games. Hell, I don't let it stop me from cosplaying from Kingdom Hearts myself...just not from the Organization.

Only if they can get Michael Keaton back to play Ken, he was awesome. Also, it'd be pretty funny if they chose to both use Barbie and bring Atlantica back, since they'd have Jodi Benson doing pretty much the exact same voice for two characters in the same game. Of course, that'd mean having to suffer through Atlantica again, and I don't think I could take it. As it is, I'm dreading Atlantica in the run of Kingdom Hearts II I just started. But now I've derailed myself so far I can't even see the tracks anymore.

So the 3DS is $250 in the US on March 27? Well, I won't be getting one then, so let's hope we don't have another Wii-like shortage so I can actually get one by the time I have $250 to spend on it.

Isn't it a huge kick to the balls that they removed Woody and Buzz from KH2? I still wonder how the hell that would have worked though.

That's a good policy that I follow myself, if I didn't that'd pretty much mean I'd be avoiding my favorite videogame genre only because of some idiots on the internet.

Honestly, MY problem with Org XIII is that they lost their badassness in the Chain->II transition, I'm looking at you Axel >__>
