Countdown to Ep 3 - "They Stole Max's Brain!"

Hey, all. Mike Stemmle here.

With Episode 303 making the final turn before hitting the virtual streets, now seems like a good time for a "members only"* thread in which Joe Pinney and I open up the floor to a few questions about the episode.

What can I tell y'all about this ep? It's got:

- Sam as you've never seen him!
- Max taking charge of an investigation!
- Hot Ape-on-Cockroach action!
- More rhinoplastying than you can shake a stick at!
- Sam's surprising new partner!

Consider the floodgates open,
Mike "Finishing 304 as I Type" Stemmle

I've been waiting for this thread!

    For my first question:
Will we be seeing any new characters that aren't in the villains line-up in this episode?

One new guy will have a familiar voice.
Another new guy will have a familiar body.

And one guy you THINK is a villain really isn't (or IS he?)

BTW, before this thread gets too long, I really should mention that 303 is pretty much Joe Pinney's baby. I'm just a guy who wrote a lot dialog. And by "a lot" I mean, "way too much."

Thanks for creating the thread, Mike!

If this episode was a delicious beverage, exactly what kind would it be and why?
One new guy will have a familiar voice.
Another new guy will have a familiar body.

Either you're drawing undue attention to reuse of character models and voice actors, or we get someone else in Max's body (maybe)!
    - Hot Ape-on-Cockroach action!

    o_O

You were responsible for my favourite joke in the previous episode, so I'm ok with this. :)

Oh man oh man oh man! I love these threads because we'll get answers, albeit vague ones, but I hate them because now I get all excited more than usual for the next episode!

Been waiting for this thread. I have two questions:

    1. Any new powers (or any besides rhinoplasty)?

    2. Will this episode have two storylines (one for Sam, one for Max) that you can switch between?

Probably some sort of ambrosia made from bananas and milk. By the way, has there ever been a peanut-butter flavored version of Nestle Quik? If not, why not?

I'm afraid to ask which one, especially since I don't THINK I wrote any linesfor 302.

That 'Sam as you've never seen him' bit reminds me of that concept art of 'noir' Sam. I'm hoping that's what you're referring to, because then I'm even more giddy than I thought I was.

What, the power to transform into carefully-selected inanimate objects isn't enough? What do you people want, blood?

Sam and Max pretty much share the same storyline (at least, I think they do... I mean, it's possible that Max is secretly having some sort of magical fantasy adventure with elves and dragons that represent his various abandonment issues, but that's not very likely), so we won't be juggling multiple storylines this time around. That said, we probably will be going back into Max mode. Of course, without a brain, Max Mode might be a little, um, vacant.

    Totally sure you wanna know?

I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna like the answer either

    Abandonment issues? *SLAP Myself*

Now you say that, How we going to use the psychic powers if Max doesn't have a brain? (By the way, if Rhinoplasty is back, is also back Mind Reading?)

    1) Yes, how WILL he use psychic powers without a brain? Of course, we're all assuming Max's psychic powers come from his brain to begin with... maybe they're lodged in his knees or something...

    2) Mind reading? When did we ever promise mind reading? Oh yeah... maybe we should get back to that power before the season ends.

Someone stole Max's brain. In most states, that's a crime. It stands to reason that the Crime-Tron will put in an appearance.

Awww.... I loved the 3 lines of Sam while reading his brain... and also Gordon's. But, will be back, right? RIGHT?

If the Crime-Tron is back, will there be more of the smaller, clue-finding locations like those found in The Penal Zone (Meesta Pizza, Bob's Toys!s)?
  • edited June 2010
I hear the museum is in this episode. Are there any other new locations appearing in this episode?
  • edited June 2010
So! It's almost time for a brain shock, eh? Can I have a few questions answered even though other people asked some of them?

1: Besides Rhinoplasty, will we get anything else?

2: Will we see more locations and less recycled things?

3: Will Max be able to control his powers as a bodyless brain?

    4: Is Sam's new partner... A MONKEY?!?!

I think the difference goes with Monkeys have tail and simian don't. Yes, I think some simians are those.

Hi, Mr Stemmle. Somehow you make me even more excited about the forthcoming episode than I was before. Perhaps it's because you're so cheerful and fun-loving and a little mad, infectiously so. I dunno...
    1. Do we get to see any more S1/2 characters in this episode? (personally I hope not because the story is better so far without them)
    2. What role does Sal play?
    3. Do we see more of the Narrator in a more expanded role than just narrating?
    4. Is Skun'ka'pe back?
    5. How is it possible for us to use psychic powers and have S&M share the same storyline?
    6. Are we talking more a fortnight 'til release or nearer a month?
    7. Is Steve Purcell getting any more involved besides OKing stuff?

I understand that most of these probably won't get answered because they give too much away but any reasonable stab at them will be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello there Señor Mike "I'm still not quite sure how to pronounce your last name" Stemmle! Those juicy tidbits of information are whetting my appetite for destruction quite profusely. I won't distract you with repetitions of previously-stated questions, but I thank you for being here to answer them, as well as being generally awesome!

    Dear Mr. Stemmle
In Tales of Monkey Island you
killed Morgan, De Singe and even Guybrush (after poxing him and his wife)
in just one episode; this time you've stolen Max's brain.
The question is: why are you trying to disintegrate the whole adventure genre?

I like it when main characters die or lose their brains. It enhances the drama and epic storylines that all fall into each other as the Episodes go on.

    Not in THIS episode.
    What role does Sal play?
Well, he's a giant talking cockroach, so his range is a little limited. I mean, we tried him out for Hamlet, but it really didn't work.
Do we see more of the Narrator in a more expanded role than just narrating?
You mean, like narrating OTHER stories? That'd be weird.
    Is Skun'ka'pe back?
You can't keep a bad ape down.
How is it possible for us to use psychic powers and have S&M share the same storyline?
Ah, I think I see where we're tripping each other up. I tend to think of the "storyline" as being separate from "player I'm currently controlling." To answer your question less coyly, yes, you'll be switching back and forth between Sam and Max again in 303.
Are we talking more a fortnight 'til release or nearer a month?
I'm not sure. I just know it's shooting through the approval processes like excrement through a goose on laxatives.

    Mike
