Tried Episode 2 manual instructions for Mac, and it worked like a charm. Thank you, DjNDB!

So are Telltale just going to rely on this 'solution' and tick it off the 'customer support' list?
  • edited September 2012
    Bump.

This should honestly be stickied until they come up with an official solution. If they do.

    Done.

Thanks so much for this. I'm sure it took a lot of effort on your part to come up with it, and we all appreciate it greatly. Especially considering you're only a volunteer, not even paid staff for Telltale.

This doesn't work for me, this is absolutely ridiculous how the game stops downloading at 99.5 percent. I want my money back from this garbage company, nobody cares once they get their money. The game doesn't work eh? "oh well that's their problem not ours, we got their money already"

The Python automatic download works for me but then it still tries to download the next episode even with the PC files in the Meta or Data folder with \walkingdead10* folders. Frustrating to know I have the files but can't get the game to recongize that they are there.

EDIT: Episode 3 will install, but 2 continues to try to download.

After install, do I need to keep the episode folders in the \Meta folder or just the \Data

So I buy this kewl game with a great episode one. But now I want to play episode 2.
Now here is the catch...follow a 50 step process to download. YES, I know I am exaggerating. But really! If I knew it would be such a hassle to download subsequent episodes and that it would take as much time to download as to play, I never would have.

    Booo!!!

why cant they just sell the game w epidsodes 2 and 3 installed for the are out, as well as if we all need to download episodes 4 and 5 design a better launcher and download mnger in other words write an update frustrating is saying it lightly whats up with all these games here

Well, I did the manual downloading thing and did a quick check to see if I could start episode 3. That worked just fine.
Skip to 2 weeks later (yesterday); I finally had some time to play episode 3, start up the game and episode 3 was back to "Get". Tried downloading it, but the whole app crashed. Tried downloading again, app crashed again at about 20%.

I'm pretty much out of ideas at this point.
  • edited September 2012
Well, I downloaded the files manually and it seemed to make a difference, but now I can only get one to "Install" whilst the other still loads to 99.5%. I dont know what else to do!
  • edited September 2012
So I guess I won't be able to play episode 3 ... ever?
Do the developers at Telltale know that there are a lot of problems with installing? Is there any word on a fix / patch / update?
Will there be a DVD release, so that I'll be able to play the game?

I'm really glad DjNDB visits the forum regularly, but are there any developers / IT employees from Telltale on the forum that can give us some advice? Or at least acknowledge the problems?

First time I had downloaded the files and started the game, it seemed to work fine. But the second time I started the game it kept freezing right after clicking "continue". So I removed the files of episode 2 again and the game loaded up perfectly. But now I don't really know what to do. I downloaded the python file now to download the files again but automatically, not sure if that will make any difference though. Help :/

I don't know if it has any influence, but you can try if deleting the contents of
    %userprofile%\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead\SyncFs\Temp
helps, if available. That's where the game downloads the files before it copies them over.

That seemed to solve my problem! Episode 2 finally started up!

my mac is version 10.8.2 this python thing doesn't work for me

I still haven't been able to play episode 3... Tried every known 'fix' I could find on the forums. Like I said, the manual download worked, until I relaunched the game. All of a sudden, episode 3 was back to GET. Clicked that, but the download has not been able to finish in the past weeks.
Even though the f**king gamefiles for episode 3 are already downloaded and put in the correct folder.

I don't know why that's happening. If deleting the TWD temp files didn't help, my last idea is trying it again on a new Mac OS user account.
You can copy the game files from the old account, so you don't need to download them again, but don't copy any other files at first, to see if it works on a clean configuration without save files.

I am also considering a reinstall of the game, but I have to be REALLY sure that I can just copy over the old savegames and they work.

I don't know, but you can try if it works on the new account. If it does, it most likely will on the old one too.

I did that and simply copied the saved games and pasted them into the correct folders later. Had no problems at all! Except at first the game told me I had no license (LOL) which of course wasnt true but then reinstall again and it all worked out fine.

I'm on MacOS 10.6.8 and having trouble finding the folder Telltale Games in "application support" even though I have hidden files visible.

I can right click the walking dead icon and "show package contents" but there are no separate folders split up for episode 1, 2 etc.

    ANy ideas?
  • edited October 2012
Open Finder, Hold Option (ALT) and click on Go.
Library will appear, click on that and then browse to Application Support. Telltale Games should be there.

By the way, any word or news about some official fixes yet? I still have NOT been able to play episode 3. If this is not fixed before episode 4 is released, I really want my money back. I've paid for a game that I can't even finish.
  • edited October 2012
Hey, it works fine for me for both the episode. If episode 4 has the same problem, is the any chances you will post them up here? :)

I'll update it for Episode 4 when it's released. I can do the PC Version, but for the Mac Version someone needs to attach the respective .json file.
  • edited October 2012
Hey DjNDB, how do I get the .json file? Where is it located?

It's mentioned in the first post, quoted below. You might have to press "get" once first for the episode to make it appear. At least that's how it works on PC.

So for Episode 4 on the mac, I need to wait for a .json file?

Or you attach it yourself. You need to .zip it though.

What files do I need to click for episode four for mac specifically?

Once you clicked "get" for the episode, the .json files should be in
    ~/Library/Application Support/Telltale Games/TheWalkingDead/SyncFS/Meta/
    Named similar to the episodes.
    I don't know the specifics, because i don't have a mac.

I think the problem I'm having is that I bought the 24.99 thing awhile back when there were 3 episodes, and now that there's another one it's throwing me off asking for another purchase. I was under the impression I could just download it from the game menu.

Yes, you should be able to download it since you own the season. Do you get this issue?

    I can't do anything for PS3. Sorry.

I have a PC. I can't download episode 4 and your method did not work for me. Oddly, in game i'm getting told that "I can download episode 3 in the playstation store." I'm playing on PC.

    Please help.

    **** Update:

Disabled firewall and now it updated to correctly show episode 4 as downloadable. However, whenever I click "get," my connection is lost.

    Please advise

Unfortunately it still says "coming soon" on my mac version. *sigh*

Thanks for the links, I've finally been able to download Episode 4 after it resetting at 33% several times.

It might be worth mentioning in the original post that you need to clear out Documents\The Walking Dead\SyncFS\Temp if you've partially downloaded some of the files within the game. Before I did that it still wanted to restart the download.
  • edited October 2012
Well, that didn't work for me. I downloaded the episode 4 files and put them in the folder. Then I opened the game and Clicked "get" and it immediately said it was installed. So, I tried to play the game and it locked up. So, I shut it down and restarted it and Now the game opens in Window mode (instead of full screen like it always did before and asks me for my user name and password to unlock the game (like the first time I played Episode 1) and when I enter the info, the games locks up and doesn't go any further *sigh* I checked the Temp folder and it's empty ... I moved all of the downloaded files out and tried to play the game again, but I'm still in window mode and being asked for my user name and password ... grrrrrrrr

UPDATE: I finally got back into the game and now when I went to click "get", it says "coming soon" ... maybe TellTale has removed episode 4 until they fix its bugs?

Here's the .json for the mac version, although for me this time it worked fine to download it through the game.
