Thanks DjNDB. The automatic download via python worked for me, but I tried the manual download first which did not work. Not sure why. Thanks again though.
Thank you DjNDB!!
And shame on Telltale for not even bothering to show up in this thread and comment or even apologize, let alone fix the crappy in-game downloader or at least offer a game download with pre-installed episodes. This is really pathetic and customer service at its worst.
I also downloaded the files manually, but I've took the links out of the .json file of my installation (simply open the .json file in the "Meta" directory with a texteditor of your choice).
If i take the files from the first post it doesn't work (black screen, mousecursor doesn't move and savegames are away after quitting the game).

PC or Mac?
Which episode didn't work and when did you try it?
I updated the links about 24 hours ago, so it is possible you still had the old ones.
Hi all. Thanks for the awesome fix to the huge download problem for the Walking Dead Game. I needed Episode 3 & 4, as I am pretty new to the game. It did take bit of messing around with my file security but I have now been playing episode 3 for hours.
I used the manual download method for my Windows 7 64bit PC. Episode 4 seemed to come back installed right away after hitting "GET". Episode 3 would not come up installed. Fortunately I allways follow good instructions. I deleted the whole Walking Dead flolder from The Telltale Games directoy and re-copied the Walking Dead folder from my 'Temp' folder and started again. The reason why the files and folders would'nt come up installed was because of too much file security.
Here is how to relax your file security to get the episodes to install. In 'My Documents' right click on the 'Telltall Games' folder. Then choose properties from the bottom of the list. Select the security tab at the top. Select your Home User name, and choose Edit.
Again select your Home User name. Now you are in a position to relax your file restrictions. Tick everything to Allow, and then Apply the changes. O.K. Thats it now Boot up the game and try to 'GET' the Downloads again. Good Luck.

I am having a problem downloading the episodes. When I click on the Mac Downloader.zip from the first post when the download is opened it does not down load. Any advice.

Please read the first post closely. There are instructions on what to do with the files in the .zip under "Automatic Download".
Alternatively you can use the "Manual Download" method.
I am having problem getting episode two to work. I downloaded the links from the page for my mac then created a folder walkingdead102 and put them there. When I start the game it still tries to download the episode instead of installing it. Any help.
I've downloaded and played episode one yet I don't have any of the Telltale files or folders in the correct library. What gives? Even doing the manual process it just tries to download the files again.
Thanks for the links again, I'm not even going to bother with the in-game downloader this time after having to restart every download several times for the previous episodes.
Ah, okay. And sorry for bothering, but one more question. I did the manual download, created the WalkingDead105 folder in the exact place you specified, and placed the files in there. All files from the Temp folder have been deleted, but I'm still getting "coming soon" when I go to play the game. Would you happen to have an idea as to what I'm doing wrong? And I'm using a Mac.
Oh, and I just saw that in the meta folder I have .json files for what looks like episodes 1-4. I'm guessing that might have something to do with it. Should I delete those files?

"Coming soon" is a different issue. This workaround requires that the "Get" button works.
There is a chance that deleting the content of the "Meta" folder helps. I would give it a try.
Nah, didn't work. It just made me have to redownload all the episodes. Luckily I didn't delete the files, just moved them elsewhere. Oh well, I guess I just have to hope that the coming soon goes away. Strange, I think I remember having coming soon for episode 3/4/both and using this workaround successfully...well, thanks for your help anyway, you're an awesome dude regardless of my personal success.
Actually, seems like it's the .json file that I need for episode five. Do you (or anyone else on the forum, for that matter) have that file and are willing to share?
The .json file is in the PC_Downloader.zip attached to the first post. I wouldn't expect it to help, but it doesn't hurt to try.
The question is, why the game doesn't know about Episode 5. It should connect to TTGs servers at the beginning for updates, and i assume something goes wrong at that point.
Have you tried if it still says coming soon if you rename the entire "SyncFs" Folder?
I would also try restarting your computer.
Well, I'm not really sure what I did, but I got it working. I think something just finally kicked in and the computer made the connections it was supposed to all along once I got the episode five files. Thanks for everything, sincerely.

Yeah, this manual download is SOOOOO much better than the in-game download. Atleast this way you can actually see if the files are in fact downloading, and the biggest benefit ofcourse would be you don't have to sit through an entire download to re-try a failed install. Why couldn't Telltale provide direct downloads to begin with??
Just tried out the unofficial fix, but when I tried to go back into the game and press the Get button for the episodes, it froze on the title screen right after it said "Connecting." any suggestions?

I get that too at the moment. I assume it is an unrelated server issue.
EDIT:
It actually recovered from that while i was typing. So please give it a few minutes.
Hi DjNb, thanks a lot for your instructions. Sorry if im asking a stupid qs, does it work for iOS or iphone? after i download all the episodes on the walking dead folder, do I just have to sync it to my phone? Thanks alot.

What exactly did you try and what happened?

First of all i suggest you copy back your backup, to recover your savegames.
Then, please try the instant "connection lost" workaround.
This is just an unofficial workaround for people who don't want to wait until the patch is out.

The other episodes got more files over time through patches.

Now all I have to worry about are the bugs this game allegedly has but for now, all is right with the world. Cheers!!!
There's another thread describing the process for iOS.
