Do you have savegames already, or are you just starting?
Is only Episode 2 having download issues, and the others work?

    Okay, let's check something.

Please search your folders for prefs.prop files as described below and post the results.
    - Open a terminal (e.g. by typing terminal into spotlight). Then copy and paste this command line into the terminal and press enter:

    find ~ -name prefs.prop |pbcopy

    - Now the results are in the clipboard. Start a new reply to this post. Then paste the results from the clipboard into it, by pressing Command + V.

Here is what came up when i did that:

    Ingvar-Kristiansens-MacBook-Pro:~ ingvar_k92$ find
    usage: find [-H | -L | -P] [-EXdsx] [-f path] path ... [expression]
    find [-H | -L | -P] [-EXdsx] -f path [path ...] [expression]
    Ingvar-Kristiansens-MacBook-Pro:~ ingvar_k92$ /Users/ingvar_k92/Library/Application Support/Telltale Games/TheWalkingDead/prefs.prop
-bash: /Users/ingvar_k92/Library/Application: No such file or directory
    Ingvar-Kristiansens-MacBook-Pro:~ ingvar_k92$

It looks like i have to make my description more precise. You pressed Command + V in the terminal instead of the forum. But i can see the result.

We just ruled out one bug that sometimes occurs, which is good, but we don't know the cause yet.

Using the semi-automatic download, when you press "get" for episode 2, does it instantly show 99% or does it slowly work up to it?
  • edited January 2013
It downloads slower and slower until it stops at 99%

Ah sorry, i missed that detail in your initial post.

Please make a backup copy of your savegames.

Then delete the entire savegame folder and start the game once till it reaches the menu, then close it again.

Now copy the folders from the semi-automatic download to the "Data" folder again, and try if you can start the game.
If it works, you can try copying your savegames back.

How much time did you give it after it seemed to freeze?
The game downloads updates at that point, so it's possible it does that in the background while it seems to freeze.

Please try starting the game while you are disconnected from the internet.

Haha, no. I just didn't think that was the problem, because it worked without the episodes installed. It would be nicer if it showed that it's downloading something.

    Have fun.

It's a sad day and age when you have to resort to workarounds in order to get what you've paid for. Nevertheless, a huge thank you for the effort put into this. Works like a charm!

Just bought the game. Was clearly surprised to face exactly same issue as the others as we are in 2013 ! Where is your support team ?

The semi-Automatic work for me. Just be careful :
    - To download the right version of Python (my First mistake)
    - to be a little be patient when game is starting it froze fews minutes.

TellTale : It is my first game in your shop, hope the experience and support will be better next time.
What is the purpose behind all those issues that we faced ?

Now, I can enjoy what I bought thanks to community.

I did this and it worked but now my game is freezing and glitching such as the background is red or there is only dialogue and no picture and it takes about 5 minutes just to get to the menu where as before it would only take about 20 seconds. It is also saying that I must download episode 2 again as I closed the game and it is doing the same thing as before (loading to 99% and stopping) I am a mac user, help!

I'm getting really fed up with this. I followed all the instructions to download eps 2-5 through the semi-auto method after beating ep 1. I copied them all in according to the mac osx instructions, but now when I boot the game up and click "get" for episode 2 (or any of the others for that matter) the game freezes up for a second and then says "You must have an internet connection to access this feature." Any ideas? Before using this work-around I had the stuck at 99% problem.

Not sure why it doesn't work.

What kind of internet connection do you have?

Further please follow the instructions to run the Support Tool and attach the resulting "support_data_mac.zip" to your next reply in this thread.

Thanks for the links.. I was wondering...

Is there any possibility to have the other episodes on another Drive and working? For example in install path? I'm asking as I have 2 drives on my laptop, the os drive is SSD and the other drive I use for games, but TWD episodes adds onto the SSD :/.

    (Using Telltalegames.com version)

If you have windows vista or later, you can use an NTFS junction point.

Hi, I ran the script for downloading the files in Python on my MacBook Pro but the download seems to have stopped somewhere in the middle of episode 3?

    "Downloading: WalkingDead103/1_WalkingDead103_english_mac_anichore.ttarch (51.76 MB)
    % 5 10"

That's what it's been showing me for a while now and my internet connection is decent so I don't think it's due to a slow connection.

Not sure what's going on, but i suggest you stop and restart the script. You will only lose the progress of that one file.

    You're a star, DjNBD. :)
I just needed one clarification. All the seasons which are being downloaded through the Python script are from the official TTG servers, right?

Thanks man! Youre the best, I can't seem to find the folders your talking about in your original post though. Is there any other way of finding them? Maybe the paths were changed?

The Library folder is hidden. You can either use a tool to show hidden folders, or just open the menu "go/go to folder" in Finder and copy the path into it.

I have the Telltale store version which I originally followed this manual download guide to get episodes 2-5 working.
Now that 400 Days is out, I want to get that up and running. I've manually downloaded all the files and created the WalkingDead106 folder, cleared the temp folder...... just as I did for the previous episodes.
I start up the game, but then what do I do?? Under the Download Content menu, it only has episodes 1-5 listed (and installed). I know the game connects to the internet, because the scrolling news at the top of the menu seems to be updated (even tells me to download the new DLC which is out now!). Am I missing something??

That's usually a sign, that the game hasn't download all patches. You can try if deleting the SyncFS\Meta folder before the next start helps.

If it doesn't, please follow the instructions to run the Support Tool and attach the resulting "support_data_pc.zip" or "support_data_mac.zip" to your next reply in this thread.

I tried removing the Meta folder, and now under the Download menu it doesn't register as having episodes 2-5 (appear as Purchased with GET button). Still no mention of 400 Days.
Since I still have the data files for episodes 2-5, I tried to do the fast/manual install as per the guide, however when I press GET, after a few seconds I get the message:
"Connection lost while downloading data. Please ensure you have a working internet connection and re-attempt the download"

Restoring my original pref.props and Meta folder puts episodes 2-5 back to working order.

Is there any firewall that could be blocking the game from connecting to the internet?

It has not downloaded the patches for Episode 1-5.

If that's not the case, i suggest starting fresh. Uninstall the game, rename the savegame folder, download and install the latest installer.
Then check if it shows 400 days.

If it does, you can copy over your prefs.prop and savegames, and the episode files. On the next start it should download the remaining patches for Episode 2-5.

I don't have any special firewall setup, and I didn't have any troubles when I originally performed the manual install last year. I imagine that these patches are the contents of the Meta folder? Like I mentioned, restoring my original Meta folder rectifies the presence of all the episodes. But I can see where your getting at with the game not being able to connect to the internet, however does the update of the news feed suggest that the game is indeed connecting?
I don't suppose there is a manual download of the patches?
  • DjNDBDjNDB Moderator
    edited July 2013
The patches are stored in "WalkingDead101PatchFs" and the individual episodes folders.
I suggest you try what i suggested, because it's always better to let the game do the updating.
The patches could be downloaded manually, but that should be a last resort.
