Other emotionally powerful games?

After finish ep.5, I can safely say that TWD is one of my favorite games. The story was incredible but what really made it for me was how the game made me care for the amazing characters they created. The game had me screaming at my TV at some points, when really its just a bunch of pixels saying and doing some shit. But i wanted to know what other games, if there are, you've played, are like this one in the sense you really care about the characters and the game hurls you through a bundle of emotions, and whether or not they match TWD ?

Red Dead Redemption for me, to me the ending with John Marston sacrificing himself to save his family got me to tear up just a tad bit. The second ending ending of Jack getting revenge on Edgar Ross had me cheering.

The most earliest example was Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, the ending had me on edge and thinking Lara is dead was a shocker.

There has never been a charecter loved like Clem

I think Heavy Rain fits into that category.

Any game involving non-bratty children being put in danger or worse usually tugs at the heart strings.

Don't know if you'll find it as emotionally riveting as TWD, but still worth a try.

Nah, there is no games like The Walking Dead, mate. This is the best out there.

To The Moon. Its a great game and very sad (in a good kind of way)

Heavy Rain made it for me. This is the 2nd game i play this Gen that effects me like this. Each game have its own way.

The only other game that I felt the same amount of emotion for the characters and story as I did The Walking Dead was in Mass Effect 3. Having played all three games in the trilogy, I'd really gotten to know and care about the characters, and some of the conversations Shepard can have with his friends for the last time really tug on the heart strings.

The Walking Dead really nailed it. It's without a doubt in the top three of my all time favorite games. Such emotion and care to the story. Sure there were some plot holes, but I can look past those.

    The first Silent Hill.

I'll second Red Dead Redemption too.

The walking dead is the only game I have played which had me emotionally attached. It is very unique and I have never played anything like it. I think the walking dead is the best emotionally powerful game, others aren't compared to this.

Red Dead Redemption almost got me. It almost got me.

That's really been the only game to come close to making me feel as strongly as TWD did. Maybe Dragon Age: Origins' final speeches, they were sad but they weren't heartbreaking. Lee and Clem's story will take a lot to be beaten.

Only 2 games have ever made a badass like me cry... The Walking Dead and Heavy Rain
  • edited November 2012
i agree, "to the moon" has one of the greatest stories out there:)

Mass Effect Trilogy...but never the "innocent" emotions evoked by Clem. Never the...parental instinct they brought out with TWD.

Off to play Heavy Rain now and see what that game is like. Guess I'm just a glutton for punishment.

Mass Effect 3 had its moments, Mordin's death had me very close to tears. Thane's end was also touching.

syberia, the longest journey, still life, the art of murder, and going downtown (german game with eng subs). while not sad, had me feeling for my character and very quickly drew me into the story. the blackwell chronicles though had some sad points (very recommended!)

some console games that were kinda sad, the legend of dragoon (one of THE best rpgs, or any game for that matter, i've ever played, EVER). old PS game that came on 4 discs. you talking about somebody who was HEARTBROKEN at the end of disc 2 (i'm getting broken up just thinking about it and it has been YEARS since i've last played that game)! that's the type of game you want to play! if you have a PS2 or PS3 and are able to get your hands on it, PLAY IT! you think TWD got you emotionally invested? it ain't got nothing on that game in my opinion.

also, dragon quest IV (i think lol).... ahhh.... hmmm >.> other the legend of dragoon, not many games have gotten me so emotional invested so that mean slim pickings for console games lol

The Walking dead is the first game with characters I've been emotionally attached to. They made the game perfectly. I have to thank Talltale, for their amazing ability to break the one thing I could never do - "Be attached to a game character".

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes, but just the scene where Holmes shoots himself to evade capture.

Heavy Rain, L.A. Noire, Fahrenheit (aka Indigo Prophecy)

Before the finale came out, I'd say the Mass Effect trilogy. Telltale really honed in the experience and emotions in 14 or fewer hours as opposed to 60+, though.

That's not to say ME3 didn't have moments that made me upset because there were, one involving a certain robot and Quarian being the most notable, but... it doesn't compare to The Walking Dead. As far as I'm concerned, it's in a league of its own in terms of crushing your emotions.

I'd forgotten about Indigo Prophecy... it was pretty solid, despite going a bit... weird.

The Walking Dead is the first game that has made me really care about the characters in it. In most games I'd think 'that sucks they died', but wouldn't put much emotion into it. In this one, I feel horrible, even for the characters I thought I hated.

Mass Effect trilogy up until the end almost makes it but it falls short.
The Longest Journey might be the only other game that had me emotionally attached as much as The Walking Dead. Still pales in comparison though.

The only other games I played that got me this into the story was Fatal Frame 1 and 2. You are the sister going into the first one looking for your brother and find out what happend to everyone that has ever been there. Two endings on both of them, but the second ending if I remember you have to beat the game on hard. Really pulled at my heart strings. The second you are one of the twin sisters going through All Gods village trying to find your twin as you find out what happened to the spirts of the two twins that haunt the place. Best scary and heart pulling games of all time. TWD is my second on the list after those. Wish I still had them.

    Heavy Rain... really sad game.

Yea Heavy Rain. It is the best game I ever played.
Fahrenheit (aka Indigo Prophecy) was alright, it started out promising but the story get's extremely stupid and rushed later in the game.

The Walking Dead is the onøy game who I have sat down and cried afterwards, those emotions man!

There is no other game like TWD, it's unique!

    Silent Hill 2
I didnt see this in thread.
    Come on guys!
    Seriously?

Once you've experienced it.. this game will be with you for the rest of your life.

I remember the day when i saw the ending... God...
A best experience. And not gaming only experience.

Actually it is damn hard to make it through the end..
is like a fight... with your own I

    sometimes game is so disgusting.
But in the end... all this way...
    Is like a revelation.
    A literally way through hell.

    SH2 changes you.

Common opinion that this game is just another horror with scary city and monsters.
I really feel sad that the other games in series and the movies are make people to think like that.

SH2 was an experiment. Its absolutely independent story.. and.. this game is all about soul.

Beware of spoilers and give it a try.

Red Dead Redemption is the only other game that's even close the TWD in quality. The ending of that game was heartbreaking.

Final Fantasy 7... probably one of the top 10 story-based video games ever created.
Final Fantasy 6 is up there too, but 7 was just so good.

I'm a big fan of To the Moon. My wife and I played through the whole game in one sitting, and there were some waterworks by the end, I'll admit. It's basically a point and click adventure game similar in concept to the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The artistic design seems inspired by Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, and other SNES Square classics.

Lost odyssey (xbox 360) was the first game that make me cry.
That game has one of saddest moment that i have ever seen :(

C'mon, man, the game's been out for two and a half years. Besides, it's still worth playing, even if you know some of the ending.

I haven't had any other games effect me quite as much as TWD did, but Heavy Rain, RDR and Mass Effect 3 probably came the closest.

Final Fantasy 10 is the only game, that has had some of the same effects on me; like I REALLY cared about the characters. Extremely well written and unpredictable story too like TWD.

I know FF7 is very loved by many, it is also a great game. But for me it didn't come close to FF10.

Second this, it isnt pretty but its got a great atmosphere. Also would follow everyone and say red dead redemption, but why would you recommend the game then spoil the best part of it? No one might of played it :p

Agreeing with everyone who mentioned To the Moon. Planescape: Torment has some pretty emotional moments in it too. I could also argue that Shadow of the Colossus evokes emotions, but it didn't necessarily make me sad.

I still thin halo 3 ,4,reach are one of the saddest games i've ever played. The characters the pot an the touching music.
