Silent Hill 2 is an amazing game. Seriously. Play it or watch a LP of it.

    Katawa Shoujo.

the way the red dead john marston death was set up was stupid to me, i wanted to leave out the back of the barn and not just stand in front of a firing squad (i didn't even know i would have to die at that point) or at least try and kill them in a smart way the way i had wiped out entire armies just a short time earlier, so that was a big fail for me unfortunately and i didn't want to play his son so it wasn't until months later that i found out he had more to do and he wasn't just an end of game explore the world part.

i can't even think of a game i cared about the story and characters as much as TWD, silent hill 2 was great for atmosphere though, every important door/ladder i used i was worried i was walking directly into hell

final fantasy 7 had me bursting out into tears a couple of times and I absolutely love that game. But it didnt leave me emotionally raw like the walking dead did. At the end, I just couldnt take it, poor clementine

Super Mario; I have got really emotional moments when Mario died in a game where you couldn't just save your success. ;)

If you also talk about the atmosphere than Dead Island is a good game (best ZA-atmosphere I know) too but I don't know a game in which you can empathize with the characters in such a strong way

Heavy Rain, L.A. Noire, Fahrenheit (aka Indigo Prophecy)

I agree with these! Both Fahrenheit and Heavy RAin had me pressing pause the entire time because I was filled with confusion!! so emotional!

Heavy Rain is pretty much the only other emotional game I could think of...

If you mean impacting stories, I got none. But there's plenty of Zelda games that had me bawling. :D
  • edited December 2012
None really. I can think of a ton of games that tried to make an emotionally powerful game but none really did it for me. E.g. Heavy Rain, everyone liked it but I actually hated it.

Red Dead Redemption is definitely up there.

I would also rank the old Lunar RPGs for the Sega CD and PS1 pretty high on the list of characters I got extremely attached to. Whether that's a testament to the original Japanese creators or just Working Designs' awesome translations back in the 90's I couldn't say.

Mass Effect trilogy up until the end almost makes it but it falls short.
The Longest Journey might be the only other game that had me emotionally attached as much as The Walking Dead. Still pales in comparison though.
I'd agree fully with both of those statments =P Albeit Longest Journey really has not aged well at all in terms of graphics.

The ending of Final Fantasy X had me in tears, it's a beautiful game. Honestly it's one of the only games where I can say graphics matter, the beautiful environment and detail add so much beauty of the story that it makes it even more special than it already is. Yuna is my favourite female character along with Clementine. The music is superb and unforgettable.
I'll admit I cried just a bit at the end of Kingdom Hearts II too...but it was happy tears as it had a very sweet ending but I think the music was a big part of that. Don't let the disney put you off because it's a very interesting game.
Heavy Rain is an emotional one and I've heard good things about To The Moon.

If it's a game in which you want to care about the characters in the universe that you're in, you might like Persona 3 FES even though it's a RPG and it isn't emotionally powerful until the end.

Fahrenheit. Heavy rain. Dragon age: Origins.

I am probably the only person who cried at the end of Bioshock Infinite but other then that I have to think, Red Dead was pretty amazing.
  • edited May 2013
I agree with you Bioshock Infinite was pretty much awesome

Try Amnesia: The Dark Descent if you want shit-your-pants emotionally powerful
  • edited May 2013
Spec ops: The line. (not to be confused with CoD, it's not CoD)
Emotionally and dramatical aspekt is same as in TWD.

syberia, the longest journey, still life, the art of murder, and going downtown (german game with eng subs). while not sad, had me feeling for my character and very quickly drew me into the story. the blackwell chronicles though had some sad points (very recommended!)

some console games that were kinda sad, the legend of dragoon (one of THE best rpgs, or any game for that matter, i've ever played, EVER). old PS game that came on 4 discs. you talking about somebody who was HEARTBROKEN at the end of disc 2 (i'm getting broken up just thinking about it and it has been YEARS since i've last played that game)! that's the type of game you want to play! if you have a PS2 or PS3 and are able to get your hands on it, PLAY IT! you think TWD got you emotionally invested? it ain't got nothing on that game in my opinion.

also, dragon quest IV (i think lol).... ahhh.... hmmm >.> other the legend of dragoon, not many games have gotten me so emotional invested so that mean slim pickings for console games lol

    Another Legend of Dragoon player!

    Soo agree with that post.
Legend of Dragoon held my #1 spot of all-time until this game came around.

Legend of Dragoon would be my pick. The greatest RPG I have played story wise.

Chains of Satinav is very emotional too,it makes you feel compassion for someone who bullied you at the start of the game and has killed his best friend.

    Tomb Raider?

Final Fantasy 10, the mass effect series...man I love those games, halo 4 got me, that ending was great.
  • edited May 2013
This game is almost built based on emotions. Most of the other games mentioned here (ex Mass Effect), the deaths were sad...but I got other stuff to do (looking at you, Reapers), and these are characters I've played with over the course of years!

In TWD, its all about you and them- you're all each other has so that makes this (imo) infinitely more personal. This is the only game that made me really give serious thought to my next decision, and also made me have to mentally prepare myself for the outcome.
I agree with the others, there really is nothing out there like this game in terms of its ability to bond with these pixels and the dangers you face with them on an emotional level

I still remember the horror going into the next Episode thinking about what the next choice will be and how it will destroy me, needless to say this did at a point.

I never felt so atached to a game before like the walking dead its one of a kind

one of the most profound moments in the game believe it or not, was Lee getting bit- I saw the mark but for like 2-3 minutes I just kind of stared at the screen- it just didnt sink in- I guess stunned was the word? That was a first and I've played a lot of games for a loooong time

Guys im thinking about buying mass effect 1 cause ive heard really good things about the trilogy do you guys recomend it ?
  • edited June 2013
    Mass Effect 1? Definitely.
It has well written characters, a great story, and the atmosphere is amazing.
Graphics though, they're a bit old of course, after all it was released '07.
And about the gameplay... that is debatable, not everyone likes it, but it isn't
bad at all. Just very "oldschool". I would definitely recommend it, especially
since it's quite cheap nowadays, I've seen it for 10 bucks somewhere not long ago.

Beyond Two Souls looks like it will be running on emotion.
  • edited June 2013
I recommend Mass Effect one, like Zeroshoot said everything about it is great, the combat is debatable but I liked it, and if you like it you might want to get Mass Effect two and three, even though everyone hates the ending of three of which I did not hate it for some reason.

I love Bioware really. Dragon age: Origins - one of my favourite games. Star wars: The old republic - my fav MMo RPG. But Mass effect 1... I will be honest, I tried to play this game three times, and I was always wanted to sleep, when I played. I'm sorry Zero and Bio, but I guess it's the boring game, maybie because I don't like space setting (but Star wars is great I think.) Sorry again comrades.

It's okay it's not for everyone, It's not even my favorite Biowere game and I have a lot of their games. My personal favorite was Knights of the Old Republic, which came out all the way back in 2003 which makes me a Dinosaur by today's game standards. The gameplay for the first Mass Effect was really a modified version of Knights of the old Republic which might be the reason I liked it, but still no problem for not liking the first Mass Effect.

No need to apologize, not everyone can like every game. ;)
I'm just curious how far have you played it? I admit the beginning might not have been all that good, but just like DA:O it gets better hour by hour. But if you don't like the space setting, the game is hard to like.

Metal Gear Solid is the most powerful emotinal game I've played. It has stayed with me my whole life.

Well I saved alien girl (azari race), then I killed her evil mom (honestly, I didn't wanted to do this), and complete few personally quests from my squad, for example find armor for Rex, or get revenge for Garrus past.

Hmmm okay, so you have at least given the game a fair chance.

Fair enough want is your favorite Biowere game Zev, I said mine I am just curious as they have made a lot of good ones.

However, I want to say that I really liked the main character, he's awesome (by default, he looks very similar to the appearance of Walker - main character game Spec ops: The line), also about Ashley I thought she is funny, and interesting character. Strangely enough but most of all in the game I infuriated music. Music in ME 1 is just awful, only turning it off I was able to play further. Especially after beautifull Dragon age music, you know... Leliana's song, Oh... I love her.
