    Troy: District 7

    Part 6/12

After lunch, Alara and I are escorted to the seventh floor. Each district has their own floor. It’s bigger than any house I’ve ever been in. Today was the last real day of training, tomorrow we’ll be whisked away for our individual assessments. In the assessments, we’re ranked on a scale of one to twelve. One meaning you have no skill and twelve being impossibly good. This way the bet holders get a good feel of who will win, although one year the victor had a score of three. Alara is bound to do great, even for a careers standard.

“What’s that?” Alara asks, pointing to the medallion in my pocket.

“It’s my token.” I take the little gold thing out of my pocket. It’s was a tree, it was my sisters before the reaping but she gave it to me in the justice building. It helped calm me a little, it reminded me of home. “Where’s yours?” I return the question.

“I didn’t bring anything.” She sighs. The elevator doors open up into our lavishly styled floor. Despite just having lunch in the training room, Alara and I grab our helpings of seconds in the kitchen and sit in the dining room together, what a waste it would be to let this food rot. Besides, soon we’d be starving in the arena, I needed to fill up.

“Can you believe this?” Alara looks around the room, at her plate in awe. “They just have food all the time while the rest of us starve.”

“Not all of us. One, two, five and four have it pretty easy.” I say as I fork another bite of beef stew in my mouth. Those districts are the four richest. Alara is quiet. She twirls her fork around her pasta, her amber eyes read as if she wants to tell me something, anything but refuses to.

“I mean, I don’t hate them entirely.” Alara says to my shock. “It’s not there fault they’re the Capitol’s lapdog and have been brainwashed to think the games are fun.”

I’m glad I talked to Alara on the train now. Without it, I don’t know what would happen, she’s nice when we talk, I think I found my ally. Worst case scenario, one of us dies early on. No, that’s not as bad as us being in the final and being betrayed. I’ve already played it out in my mind. If both of us, against the odds make it to the final six, I’ll run away in her sleep. I don’t think I could kill her, at least I’m hoping.

Our mentor, Blight, walks in, grabbing a bowl of soup.

Blight names some of the careers that we’ve heard the names of. Names like Satina and Tiger from district one come out of her mouth. Ugh, the names the people in district one give their children are so ridiculous. Anyways, Alara tells him and I each of there skills, apparently she’s been studying them from afar.

Blight silently nods at Alara’s words. He slurps the rest of his soup from the bowl, it’s a good thing our escort isn’t here, she hates when people don’t have manners. Blight finally says something. “Even more reason to book it out of there as fast as you can.” Blight warns us.

“Book it? You mean not even grab anything?” Alara questions Blight.

“That’s right, you’ve shown your skills in training, and that’s going to bite you in the ass. Don’t stop running until you’re miles from the Cornucopia. Because y’all will be one of there main targets. Hopefully you’re good at talking because the interview Sunday is what’s going to save you.” Blight is right. We need to put miles between us and the careers.

“I’m not leaving without an axe.” Alara crosses her arms and says, disregarding all Blight has said.

    “Then you’re dead.” Blight says.

“I’m no good with people. Especially Capitol people.”

“He’ll figure something out Alara.” I try to calm her. Blight’s not too pleased with Alara’s attitude. “you’re so damn sassy? Do you even listen to other people?” Ouch, that stings. Blight finally walks off and leaves it to me and Alara.

“Can you believe this guy? Who does he think he is?” Alara says when he’s finally out of reach.

“Probably thinks he’s a victor that knows what he’s doing.” I tell her.

“You’re with me on this right Troy?” I freeze up for a moment, I need to say something.

[Plan on going to the cornucopia] [Convince Alara to run for it with you]

    Clementine: District 11

Durian and I are in the elevator for a good five minutes. Before the Games, I had never even seen an elevator. It’s so cool looking beneath at the crystal bottom and seeing the people on the first floor turn into tiny little ants. Durian and I go from the first floor to the eleventh floor at least a half dozen times before our escort, who’s with us finally snaps.

“Either go up or go down. It’s not that difficult.” You can hear she’s trying to keep cool by the edge in her voice. Or maybe it’s just her Capitol accent. I push the button back to the eleventh floor for her. Atheana is probably one of the least hateable escorts here.

We make out way to the eleventh floor. I can't help but think how good a day was today. We've made two new allies, both from twelve that seem trustable enough. Our mentor, Soya is seated on the plush couch. She's watching T.V, the news of the games to be exact. 2 DAYS 16 HOURS The clock counted the hours until the games. What did the Capitol people do all day? Other than waiting for the games?

I look over at Soya, you think I would remember her games. She’s young, early twenties most likely, tall, strong, and one of district elevens few victors.

Soya struggles to say what she says next. “No, no twelve year old has ever won.” She sighs. “But, there have been victors, fifteen, sixteen around your size that won. It'll teach you there strategies.”

“Are your games on here?” I ask. And in that moment, I regret anything I just said. Her face turns as hard as a rock. I think she’s lost in thought, but suddenly she reaches into a mahogany cabinet and tosses something.

“There’s nothing there you want to see.” You can tell by the edge in her voice she’s hurt. She walks out the room and heads to her bedroom.

I look over at Durian, with the same guilty look I have on my face.

“Should we? It doesn’t feel right.”

“All of Panem’s seen it. It’s not like we’re invading her privacy.” Durian tries to convince me. I still feel the urge to put it up. But I’m honestly curious about Soya’s Games.

WHY ARE THESE GETTING SO SHORT!

  • [Plan on going to the cornucopia]

This will either work out for me or not. I want these tributes dead and if they go there, then they most probably will die, but even if they don't go to the Cornucopia, they could still die. So I'm happy either way

Blight probably knows what he's talking about, it's not like he is going to run into some kind of force field in the quarter quell, right? Oh... wait...

In all seriousness, I'm not going to risk her life because of some stupid axe. Maybe it will turn out beneficial for them to go to the cornucopia, maybe they will even kill careers, after all they are both pretty good fighters, but I just don't want to risk her life. I guess she's my only shot at winning this, since poor Cain isn't winning material, he's more of a support guy.

[Watch a Games where someone your size won]

I think it is more beneficial for them to see. After all, what can they learn from Soya's games?

  • Maybe his advanced puzzle solving skills will be useful! He will defeat all of the other tributes when Panem's 58th puzzle solving championship will start in a few days. I still don't know why most of them think that they are in the Hunger Games... Well, they'll realize their mistake once they have to solve a 1000 parts puzzle!

  • "Of course. You're not telling me these are the Hunger Games, right? Surely a smart guy like Cain would have figured that out by now", Liquid said sarcastically. Suddenly, Liquid remembered that he is bad at delivering sarcastic lines, since he comes from a country which is famous for having no sense of humour. "So... this was definitely sarcasm", Liquid adds a little bit embarrassed, ashamed over the fact that his statement, while meant to be humorous, was too bad to be immediately understandable.
