“Let go of me!” She begins clawing and kicking at the peacekeepers every chance she gets. Normally peacekeepers wouldn’t hesitate for a second to put up with her and they’d shoot her right here. But she’s a tribute now, which means she has to live at all cost until the games.
“What a show!” Our escort chirps. She’s probably excited this district is getting some action now. Miah is forced onto the stage as our escort begins making comments like, “You must be Miah.” And “You certainly are a fast one.” She doesn’t look like an older tribute, I’m not completely sure due to her attempted getaway but she’s her wide brown eyes tell me she's no older than sixteen.
“And our male tribute for this years hunger games is…” She quickly picks one out the top.
My name is entered seven times today, the minimum for an eighteen year old. But I can’t help but tense up like I do every year. Just think Cain, you're safe after this year. You can just put all this behind you after today.
But I guess fate had different plans.

No. This isn’t how it’s supposed to be. I’m dumbfounded, out of the thousands of names, she manages to pick one of my seven. History was repeating itself yet again.
The thoughts run through my head but my legs do anything but. I’m frozen, and even worse I’m on TV for all the Capitol to see. My chances of winning are dramatically lowering by the second.
Move! I command my legs. Making there way to the stage.
I keep my emotions masked. It’s not such a hard thing to do as long as you don’t think about it to much.
Just don't think. I remind myself.
The next few minutes on stage are a blur. We’re all of a sudden rushed to the Justice
Here comes mom and dad crying into the justice building. Just like they did for my sister. Just like they sobbed and mourned for months, no more like years after she died.
Mom, comes rushing up to me.
“I’m still here,” I whisper. “I’m still here.” Though she even registers this, she’s probably already thinking about the funeral.
“You have to win.” My dad tells me as he struggles to keep his voice from shaking. “Whatever you do don’t run for the damn cornucopia, you’re smart, you’re resourceful. You can do fine without it.”
“I will. I promise.” I whisper. Peacekeepers nearly break down the door and give the three of us all a heart attack.
“Times up.” The two of them drag me by both arm.
“No!” My mom is complete hysteria, falling to her knees.
“I love you!” I shout, before the large, mahogany doors are shut down.
Dozens of reporters are with there flashing lights and cameras. I honestly want to sit down and cry but that’s not an option, weakness is no longer an option. Miah walks up to me, a blank look in her brown eyes like mine as she moves forward to the train with me.
The cameras finally stop harassing us when we’re safely locked in the train cart. There’s a buffet, nice comfortable couches. My sister had seen all these extravagant things as well. It sets me off a little and I’m uncomfortable, I do not want to touch anything now.
“Can you believe it?” Our escort’s gives us an over bearing grin. “This thing goes two-hundred miles per hour and you don’t feel a thing.” I can tell she’s trying really hard to make conversation with us, but Miah and I aren’t feeling it right now.
“I know what will cheer you two sad birds up!” She chirps. “I’ll tell all about the Capitol, oh you’ll love it, the food, the clothing, the buildings.” It seems as if our Escort is about to go rambling on and on about her petty adventures before Miah steps in.
“The death?”
“It is an honor to represented for the hunger games!” Our escort says angrily though she never quite breaks her high pitch happy tone.
“Then you do it.” Miah is quick with the comeback.
“That little act you pulled may have cost you all your sponsors!” Our escort says distressed. She begins to storm off, but not before she grabs a muffin from the dining cart we’re in.
“Wow.” I hesitate to speak. “Hope it’s not going to be like this the rest of the trip.”
“You heard her. This thing moves two hundred miles an hour. It’ll be over before you know it.”
