Your decisions to SAVE THE BABY NO MATTER WHAT, is absulutely the right decision for you and if you need that glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel to keep going then that's exactly what you should do.
Now if we found ourselves together in a zombie apocalypse, we may have some differences that would make us go our seperate way's or find a way to compromise. Let's say we did find ourselves with a baby, you are more than welcome to adopt it and care for it. I would simply not!
If we found ourselves being over-run by zombie or bandit's, I will fight or run to survive. You with a baby in your arm's have to decide what your going to do. The simple bottom line is, I would have a better chance to survive than you would. Perhaps having AJ would be that extra boost you would need to survive. He could be that inspiration for you to never give-up. I get that and hope it works for you.
I do want to be clear on one thing.. I have never said I would use AJ or any child as "bait". I actually never even thought of that until I saw it mentioned here on the forums. The only thing I have ever said was I wish Clem wouldnt have had to care for AJ.. I wouldn't kill them. It's against my conscious to do such a thing. It's against anyone's conscious to do so, but like I said people try to cope with things like that by justifying it.
If it's me or them, it's them, because they have a family too, and if I were in their position and they decided to let us live in sacrifice of their own lives when they very well could have killed us and taken our supplies... it's beyond words the kind of selflessness that provides.

I actually have a question. So you'll let the baby die if it helps you escape an emergency situation. How much of an emergency situation would it have to be? Would the baby be the first option you go for or the last? Say a couple zombies were approaching you and AJ. You could probably take them if you tried: shoot one in the head, do the knee thing with the other. But it would be an easier escape if you just threw AJ at them and ran. What would you do in that case?
