THE REAPINGS: PART 4
DISTRICT 3: Clint
I am seated in an open space on the train. Rain whizzes past the windows at a million miles an … morehour, I'm surprised the rain can stick to something going so fast. The droplets are streaking across the foggy glass like tears. They almost match the ones trailing down my cheek although mine are warmer and painful.
My mind is still reeling from what happened at the reaping. The only thing I've been capable of doing since I boarded the train is stare out the window. But all the scenery is a blur, so I just watch the rain drops gather in pools and slide away. I miss my family so much, I regret declining the offer to see my family, at the moment I thought it would be a good thing not to see them but I guess I was wrong...
"Okay!" The Escort says excitingly "Your Mentor will be here in a few minutes!"

The world seemed to move pass us so quickly, I look out into the landscape watching Panem go by. This might be the last time I ever see District 4. One thing I grew to love while growing up in District 4 was to appreciate the views and natural surroundings. I look over my shoulder and see our mentor Finnick talking to our Escort, probably discussing a way on how we can keep ourselves alive, or to impress Panem enough to get sponsors.
I wonder how long it would take us to arrive at our final destination... I have lost all sense of time while being on this train. Rain suggested that we should watch the Reaping tapes to see what our opponents are like so far. I'm kind of nervous but this might help me figure out who might pose a threat in the games.
"Luke, are you coming?" Finnick asked, I promptly snap myself out of my thoughts and quickly turn to face him.
"Yeah." I say, following Finnick and Rain into the next room.
The immaculate transparent doors slid open and welcomed Rain and I into a darkened spacious room. The only source of light was the colossal projector, emitting light into almost every corner of the white painted walls that seemed to enclose me like a vulture with every feeble step I took. Finnick slumped lazily onto an enormous leather couch located in the center of the room.
"Are you gonna sit or what?" He grinned flashing his teeth as they subtly glinted off the light of the projector.
I gave a weak smile in response as my feet shuffled across the spotless extravagant carpet. My feet seemed to be a filthy match in comparison.
"Okay, we're going to start with District one and end on District 7..." Finnick says, flicking through the Districts with a remote.
"Why District 7?" Rain asks
"Because the other Districts haven't been reaped yet." Finnick says slowly
The Capitol anthem starts ringing through the TV as the District reaping's begin.
The male from District one doesn't look like your typical career tribute. He looked innocent, and weak... but there was something about his posture and expression that yells he is not to be messed with. The District one female looks arrogant, but well built... The wink she gives at the camera must have had the Capitol roaring.
Next up were the tributes from District 2. The female looked intimidating as hell while the male looked strong and intelligent. "Definitely a threat" I say to myself.
"I'm not liking what we're up against so far." Rain admits as the Reaping's for District 3 commence.
The District 3 tributes didn't seem like a threat due to the boy looking like he was about to collapse. Although, I'm not sure about the female tribute... she looks like she has a few tricks up her sleeve.
Next up is District 4.. We both look pathetic. Rain looks completely brainless! Hopefully we have another chance to impress the Capitol.
District 5 is up next, the girl looks quiet and innocent. The boy on the other hand is tall and muscular, he doesn't look bothered about being reaped.
The District 6 tributes don't look that much of a threat although I might be wrong.
The District 7 tributes looked rather scary to be completely honest with you. Both of the tributes were much like career tributes as the both of them had a well built athletic shape along with big eyes determined to come home.
"So... What do you think?" Finnick asks, looking at us.
"We're screwed.." I comment quietly. "District 1's and 2's are the worst. They're already scaring the crap out of me."
"I'm scared..." Rain admits "After seeing those reapings, I don't know if I'm going to stand a chance."
"Don't worry too much." Finnick says calmly, placing his hand onto both of our shoulders "We'll work this out."
"Well! That was truly exciting!" The Escort exclaims. I didn't even notice she was in the room.
"I don't know about you, but I'm off to bed! An Escort needs her beauty sleep!" She giggles as she trails off to her room.
"Yeah, we'll talk more about strategising in the morning, get a goodnights sleep both of you." Finnick smiles as he gets up from the couch.
"See you around Luke." Rain says softly, patting me on the back as she leaves the room.
After seeing those tributes I don't know if I'll last for a split second in the arena. Rain is right about the career tributes, they look the most threatening. I need to use this time to strategise, I could always use a head start.. I walk out of the room surveying the train until I see Rain in the buffet, filling her plate with all different sorts of fruit, I could probably join her and talk about strategies. To my left is a room that seems to be stashed with DVD's labelled "Previous Hunger Games." Should I watch and take notes about the strategies each tribute uses on my own? After all, only one comes out. To my right is my room, it looks cozy, maybe I should catch up on some sleep?
What should Luke do?

I stand with the other twelve year olds, praying. I'm praying for many things, of course; everyone prays on reaping day. I look down to the ground, trying to calm myself down. If I am chosen as a tribute, what is my skill? Running? Climbing? Hiding? What use is that?
"That's a good skill." A voice in my head says. "You can get food, shelter, and stay away from your enemies. They can't see you but you can see them. That makes them an easy target."
I ponder on this for a while. What if there are no trees or anything I could use to climb? Well, for one, it wouldn't be entertaining for the Capitol if we were thrown into a land of nothing. There may be some weapons to start fights, but we could freeze or dehydrate to death. Hopefully there are things in the arena I could use to my advantage if I'm chosen.
But then there's my size. I'm small and look fragile. I know in matter of seconds, I could be crushed by the kids from the wealthier districts.
"Size doesn't matter," the voice says. "If you can jump around, being teeny tiny will help. No one will notice you. You'll be easily ignored, giving you a big advantage."
Well, let's just hope that.
I glance over at my mother and father, my mother gives me a weak smile. I glance at the other twelve-year-olds. Some are crying. Some are completely still, looking petrified. Others look different. Almost relaxed...no not quite.
"Welcome, Welcome!" The Escort exclaims into the microphone "It is now time to select one young man and women for the honour of representing District 11 in this year's annual Hunger Games.. Let's get started!"
She proceeds to skip to the bowl that holds thousands of slips of names. The bowl begins to speed up. I bite my lip, turning every possibility over and over in my mind. It's almost ironic the way a dark cloud covers district 11 in seconds. I look up at the grey sky. Now even the sun has gone, everything seems so, so miserable. I shut my eyes tightly, thinking to myself, "please don't be me.. please don't be me.."
"Merona Eperson!" The Escort calls out.
I'm frozen. It feels as if my heart has just popped and my legs have turned to liquid. It's me. This year's tribute is me. I open my eyes to the crowd of people looking at me in silence, I force a deep, shaking breath into my lungs, feeling my strained throat squeal as I struggle to relax my tense muscles.
As I walk to the stage, my father suddenly grabbed me and pulled me tight to him. This was a bold move as the Peacekeepers could have hauled him away. Through his tears he begged, "Please Merona, come back home to me." I nodded. He reached into his pocket and pulled out an apple. It was the prettiest apple I've ever seen come out of our orchard. I smiled, fighting back tears. I looked up at my mother, her eyes are red from all the crying she's done.
My mother, who was trying her best to not say goodbye fell to her knees, holding me, begging for my life. She looked to the crowd screaming, "She's only twelve years old! Someone, anyone please step forward and take her place. She doesn't deserve to have her life end so soon." She sobbed hard and I wanted to make her pain go away.
"Mom," I whisper, holding my mothers hand with a few tears streaming down my face "I'll be okay.. I'll be back before you even know it."
My words finally seemed to get through to her and calm her down enough to let me go. Thank God that she let go, if she didn't the peacekeepers would've done something and make things worse than it already is.
A heavy gust of wind suddenly blows across the stage as I walk up the steps. Our escort holds onto her turquoise hair (undoubtedly a wig) and roars into the microphone in her Capitol accent "Oh so emotional! Bravo! Bravo! I love it!"
She shakes my hand and babbles in my ear, but I'm not listening. I'm looking at my family; I know this is the last chance I'll get to see them. There's no way I'm coming back. We all know that. Since when was there a twelve year old that lasted long in these games?
"Well that was truly moving but I'm afraid we're behind schedule!" Our Escort chirps "It is now time to reap the boys."
The male chosen is Valerian. I know him from school.. He used to join in with people teasing me for eating one of the crops, I don't know if I can trust him.. we exchange weak smiles as he climbs on stage. He looks nearly as worried as I do. He's thirteen, he looks like he could kill but I'm not entirely sure if he's up for it. I don't want him to kill me. I hope I'm killed by someone I never get the chance to see beforehand.
Our escort makes another announcement but my ears are still blocking out any sound other than the wind. I turn my head to Valerian who is leaning in his hand to shake mine.
What should Merona do?
[Shake Valerian's hand] [Ignore and wave to the crowd goodbye]

[Ignore and wave to the crowd goodbye] i don't feel like we can trust him
